Linus Gabriel Sebastian & Linus Media Group / Linus Tech Tips - Narcissistic corporate shill YouTuber driving his media empire into the ground. KILL COUNT: 2

Linus makes a decent video on how secure physical storage destruction works.
Wait a minute. Did he buy a mobile drive destruction cart product, instead of just hiring a service that rolls up in a truck, does the same thing, logs all of the drives, and then leaves? This at-rack.co.uk site is entirely about this mobile drive destruction cart, seems to have been around for a year but has no product distributors or partners listed on their page, yet they modified a cart for 115v for Linus to use in North America? Or is this Linus just having another product thrown at him that makes damn near zero sense for anyone in his audience? He can't possibly have so many drives on-site that regularly need destroyed that having this cart thing at his warehouse makes any sense.

I'd bet the order of operations went something like this.
  1. Company reaches out to LTT regarding product sponsorship video
  2. LTT Accepts, loaned product is sent over for video filming
  3. Linus gets super fucking excited about owning a crunchy boi machine, he's desperate for cool shit to put in the lab. Maybe he plans to crush all his test drives on the regular for maximal fresh results or some equally stupid result
  4. Video is shot, company is updated about when their sponsored video will go live
  5. Company asks when cart will be returned
  6. "Oh you wanted it back? We thought you were giving it to us"
I doubt we're gonna see this around. Its unlikely they 'modified' a cart for NA grids so much as they just make both and have client demo units for both, its a niche enough industry that you have to operate globally. But its also a small enough industry that there's no way you're gonna just casually soak an influencer 'holding on to' one of your demo units when you know damned well it's never gonna see a video or organic promotion again.

Maybe Linus will try and auction it off at a charity before anyone notices.

The big Chyna TV shows up, Do they take it to the warehouse to do the testing they claim they bought it for, as well as put it in the big employee game room? Nah, it goes to the mcmansion first with only 4 people, and will probably be broken on the way to the warehouse. At least Linus is honest and says they’re breaking this into two parts because he needs that monetization.

The difference between Steve at GN and Linus can't be shown better than in their latest respective videos. You have Linus on one hand taking sponsorship stuff to his house for "testing", and being a bitch about adblock being piracy. (see above posts)

Then there is Steve at GN, who turned a Microcenter sponsorship into them giving $2500 to a guy (he works part-time for GN) who teaches a class about computers and technology, he also matched the donation from Microcenter to give the guy $5000 total. He also gave up a Saturday to help the guy out with kitting out his class, and was even helping random strangers while in the shop. Steve was also indirectly behind AMD donating a bunch of CPUs they didn't want for free because they knew one of his employees ran a class.

Linus spends 30 mins of your time failing to solder aliexpress heat pipes to an already heat piped laptop cooler. With slapstick duo hijinks. Only to be told what we all know already.
Watercooling is better than air cooling and that a modern CPU and GPU will go faster when cooled down more, even in laptops.
They also try to head off the criticism in the video as well. That the parts are $30 yes. But the time and tools needed to set this up is not worth it.
Even his crazy mods nobody would ever do video's are becoming stale and over done.

Jess, the lady always heard off screen on techlinked finally appears on camera for a considerable length of time in this year round up video with Riley.

Linus makes a PC for people like him who have more cents than brain cells. The all screen PC. Spoiler: they spent a year working on this build for the video.

Edit: here's some "If Only You Knew How Bad Things Really Are" meme faces from the above video. timestamp 6:59 and 8:07

Outside of flexing on his audience, the world's largest TV videos are fucking pointless. Hey guys, using my wife's connections, we managed to get a Not-For-Export Television, it cost upward of $10,000, is really fucking unwieldly to move/mount. This was for business related stuff... and I'm keeping it in my house, because I'm the Owner/Operator, fuck you.

I hope the fucking CCP disappear you Linus. You don't fucking violate trade law and make two fucking videos about it.

Has anything of consequence come out of LTT Labs yet or was that a colossal waste of money?
It'll always be a massive waste of money. There's nothing wrong with having a "lab" and testing methodology; the problem is, he's got a big lab like he's trying to become a legitimate testing lab, and the truth is, real testing organizations like ANSI, ISO, etc already have their own testing labs and methodologies. Linus isn't gonna get his playground to become some sort of ANSI associate where they offload work, nor is he gonna be able to get a LTT/LMG seal of approval to actually mean anything worthwhile. Because having all that tech laying around and people on staff; it needs to be doing something to produce results and a profit. Unless he's letting outsiders come in to utilize the gear and do their own testing, it's a glamor project that's burning money.

Not to be a dick by responding the way i sometimes respond to my kids, but what do you think?

The Greek Gigachad at Hardware Busters did a video on this i posted a while back. He was basically taken aback by how little understanding Linus has about what it takes to become an accredited lab before spending millions of dollars he doesn't have.

He mentioned for example his small electronics lab spends 10s of thousands of dollars a year just maintaining and documenting equipment calibration certificates. He says also that for a lab to be accredited their results must be replicable, and that for that to happen they must openly share their detailed methodology and SOPs, which linus of course will not do and which they of course do not even have.

my take: fucking lol @ linus thinking he will be able to achieve accreditation in ONE area (i.e. power supplies/electronics) let alone all the dog shit they want to do like publish white papers on rf performance, heatsinks, fans etc... Imagine, a fucking whitepaper titled Thermal Transfer Rate of the GamerJizz® Arctic Cumblast™ 140 Computer Processor Cooler Assembly, As Compared to the Thermalnigger® DILATOR 240™ All-In-One Liquid Cooler.

The whole enterprise is a fucking joke and he would have been better off keeping his mouth shut than cooming all over the inside of his jeans 10 years too early. Was he trying to attract investors? What purpose did LE FAHNNY WATERCOOLER DROP HARD DISK MAN have to hype up this ill-conceived shit project so early in advance?

I feel bad for that effeminate ginger dude making Mac videos. His shit is actually good and sometimes genuinely kino, and the only thing Linus' shit network has churned out in a decade that isn't an embarrassment, and that is because Linus and his "a-team" or creepy pedophile furries have nothing to do with it.

His ego wouldn't let him take investors - He's too fixated on still being the 'small' youtuber with no outside influences, while also being absolutely none of that in practice. Maybe he was hoping that he'd be able to replicate his partnership success in the consumer hardware field. He's had a lot of instances of talking about how cool it would be to do X or have Y to mess with, and then just gets sent a five figure care package from one of the major players to do whatever the fuck he wanted to do.

I genuinely think somewhere in his smooth brain he thought that the companies making million dollar testing equipment would just send him that shit for free for 'marketing hype', as he's completely lost the plot about the distinction between consumer, prosumer, and commercial at this point. He's managed to toe the line as some suppliers evidently think that small business oriented products (like that shredder cart) may appeal to casual IT people watching the channel, but there's no way in hell someone who's responsible for equipment acquisitions for any certified lab, or producer who would benefit from testing grade equipment would make a purchasing decision based on a fucking LTT video. Equipment buys at that scale are the sort of thing you spend six months to a year investigating, exploring options, digging through details, talent requirements and training, SOP's and fundamentals, before bringing it to a VP or C Suite level for final signoff since you want to spend a fortune on a single toy, and probably hire one or more full time senior level talents just to manage it. Anyone who makes a serious proposal based on a youtubers 15 minute video saying "its pretty cool" would probably lose any credibility they have in their organization at that point.

When I first heard of LTT Labs I thought it would just be a separate building with non video writing or presenter staff writing in depth articles about hardware. Then video writers could script a simple video around the article and the presenters would flush it to YouTube/TikTok/BillyBilly/FloatPlane/Wherever. By separating the staff the workflow can be scaled faster and the brand LTT is known enough for them to take over certain spaces by "flooding the zone". Has there been a single written article? By the by, if there had been some, one might have let them know that their testing methodology was shit far sooner as it's easier to catch in written form. Never mind that having dedicated reviewers and writers handle your samples would mean that you don't accidentally auction off someone else's property.

It didn't even occur to me that someone would so retarded as to think they can build an accredited lab with YouTube bucks.

It's Linus adjacent but Jay is saying he has health issues, many of which feels like the boomerang finally bouncing back from being 500lbs (anemic, low oxygen in the blood, possibly colon cancer), and is looking to step back a bit and let his other people Phil and Nick step in when needed. And it's much more personal and empathetic than something you'd get from LTT.

Jay used to be 500 pounds ?

I wouldn't know what video it was; but I remember a video where he talked about fitness and stuff for a bit, and he aspired to lose weight because he got into a car wreck, and was too big to get out of his car on his own, and they had to jaws of life him out. Don't quote me on that, I'm probably getting something wrong; but yeah, he was apparently a really big boy.

If the video is still out there, and it should be, it'd be a couple years old by now.

I have not been keeping tabs lately, but I thought the addition of Gary Key would bring some stability to Linus' autism. Like strategic purchasing of equipment for specific types of tests. It sounds like nothing more than a big pile of cash to go buy equipment and then suddenly say, "I guess I gotta figure out what to use this equipment for!".
I am not sure Gary is the type of person to tell Linus to back the fuck off and continue to make edutainment shit, and leave the real technical goals to him. Maybe Gary get's squeamish when trying to talk to Linus about serious topics because the only time he gets the attention of Linus is when Yvonne is pegging him.

I said it back when it was first announced; Gary may be CEO or whatever, but Linus and Yvonne are still 50/50 owners. Sure it'd be a stupid move to throw your CEO out for not listening to you, but the fact remains that while Linus is not the guy in charge anymore, he still has power as he owns the fucking building and it's his name on everything.
