I’ll never understand complaints about things like this being “memory holed.”Every new day sees thousands of newspapers in this country alone posting and printing new stories about terrible things happening. We cannot possibly remember all of them. And what are media outlets supposed to do with these things, report on every last little detail for an event that only killed two people, including the shooter? Forever?

This is similar to complaints that people stopped paying attention to Ukraine once Israel and Palestine started popping off again. Like yeah guys, that’s how news and our perception of linear time works. New things happen and old things stop being focused on as much because new things have happened and we want to talk about the new things instead. Very normal.

Most importantly, the media just tends not to do that very in-depth coverage on or profiles of mass shooters themselves these days. Who knows anything about the Uvalde shooter? There was a weird little rumor he was a tranny, but I think it turned out he wasn’t, actually. Either way, we don’t know much about him the way we all knew everything about Nik Cruz because they just don’t really do that kind of thing anymore.

I’m not saying it isn’t tragic and fucked up, obviously, just that as far as the news is concerned, it’s just not that big of a deal. You can say that the news won’t pick this story up much because the shooter is a tranny, but the truth is more so that KF wouldn’t have featured this story at all if he wasn’t because kids are shot in America literally every day

Some of this is because the shootings are hoodrat on hoodrat(most of the "kids shot in America literally every day"), but others are holed because the shooter was on the other side politically or had an approved social identity. I think it also needs to be stated that there is a difference between an angry, lead-poisoned retard with no impulse control getting mad and shooting somebody spontaneously and a socially maladjusted weirdo going out into a public place with the express intention of shooting unarmed people. I’m not saying this to argue with you, just that I think it would be handy to have a term for each of these instances so we can easily differentiate between what we all think of as “mass shootings” and what are legally also mass shootings, which include murder-suicides and drive-bys and random unpremeditated gun violence.

It is true that there were recently a handful of Asian mass shooters that didn’t get as much coverage as a white guy doing the same thing would have, but you have to admit “white supremacist shoots up Asian church” makes for a better headline than “disgruntled Asian immigrant shoots up Asian church”. The news exists to sell itself, after all, as I learned from Rita Skeeter in Harry Potter

Had known someone on another forum decades ago who had the misfortune of knowing a guy who repeatedly failed at suck-starting a shotgun. The horrible part was each thing he failed, reconstructive surgeries had been done to repair and replaced the parts of his face that got were blown off. When he healed up he goes and tries suck starting a shotgun and again fail to hero himself. So back to the hospital and later more reconstructive surgeries. Rinse and repeat the whole thing two or three more things until he finally heros himself with a shotgun.
