I hate the term "content creators". You run a web show. Broadcaster probably would be better given his size and FCC definition, but I also think it's too dignified

I don't think someone should be allowed to call themselves a "content creator" unless they more than half of the work for what they made. You also have to factor in the different types of "content..." they don't all require the same amount of work.

You're a vlogger? Yeah you don't "create content." You made a 45 minute documentary on a niche subject and did like 90% of the work? I won't argue that you created some content.

Streamers are especially not content creators (or streaming alone isn't content creation). You aren't creating content by playing someone else's video game for superchat money. The one exception to this are people that stream their art or cooking.

Once a streamer has amassed a large following and accumulated lots of goodwill among their fans, it becomes very hard to stop their positive momentum.

Asmongold will continue to have an army of simps sub and give money to him because “omg he’s just like me!!”… when in reality, while asmongold has amassed insane levels of wealth and does still live like a goblin in a cave at his parents place, he knows his popularity will eventually fade. He knows he has to capitalize and earn as much as he can while he is able to now, regardless of how unethical and scummy the methods are.

Streamers have permanently soured my interest in ever donating to any charity.

donating to organized charity is a meme anyway, that whole sector is filled to the brim with grifters, scammers, conmen, political activists, and all the fraud and corruption that you would expect from such a combination.
if you feel like giving money to do good in the world, cut out these middle men and do a bit of research into your own local community - there are places like animal shelters or food banks almost everywhere, and they would appreciate your contribution very much.
depending on how much you feel like giving, you could also look into stuff like setting up a grant or scholarship program for a local university, or talk to a local hospital about setting something up with them.

I understand the need to make money, but if I was a content creator I would never get involved with one of these groups just because the truth would eventually leak and the blowback from it would create havoc within my fanbase.

Asmongold, xQc, all of OTK, Ludwig, Hasan, amongst other famous streamers, have all been exposed by a journalist named Jacob Wolf of promoting a charity scam by a company called "Softgiving", now known as "Brandfluence" (A)

The TL;DR of the article is that all of these streamers had streams where the promoted various charities run by Softgiving, and said all of the donations made during the stream would be donated to those charities. However, 42% of all the donation money went to Softgiving's wallets, and not to charity.

The only streamer to respond publicly so far has been Asmongold, and he did it in his typical scummy fashion, by acting like a Internet Tough Guy and then saying "who give's a shit" if people got scammed, and then he fucking bans the user who asked about it.

this is actually pretty surprising to me because i swear i remember there being a big thing about softgiving being a massive scam. as it was a generally popular thing for lots of streamers to use when they wanted to do charity streams for the holidays and stuff like that. so i was under the impression that most streamers ditched them.

i know i can remember at least a vtuber who was doing a charity outright say they were not using softgiving and were just donating directly and posted proof and everything.

i guess these steamers figured their audience had the memories of goldfish and would not realize they were being scammed. which is true to be fair. i do wonder how all the mythic talent streamers especially will handle this since i am pretty sure all of them have done some form of charity thing and mythic is owned by asmongold and OTK so that will be interesting to see how those streamers react.

The idea was for it to be perpetual joke "Aw come on the logo does not look like a dick", it is manufactured to get audience engagement and all the members of OTK are supposed to go with it as if they are embarrassed.

Probably going to be an unpopular opinion, but this seems like a nothingburger to me. Over half of the money went to charity. Sure, they should've been more forthcoming and maybe it technically fits the definition of a "scam", but most of the money did go to charity. Presumably, these streamers are propositioned with charities and projects on a regular basis. Maybe some of them wanted to organize a big charity with the other streamers and the only way to do that was by coordinating a win-win situation where the streamers get paid and the charity still goes through.

I somewhat sympathize with Asmongold when he says, "Who gives a shit, I'm not going to explain it to you, fuck off" because it's true. I don't give a shit and I am gonna fuck off.

I think Jerma is fine, Vinny is good but from the Vinesauce crew, I really recommend Vargskelethor/Joel. Joel is the one streamer that consistently has me in stitches.

I have a feeling that despite this possibly being worse than what Jirard did, the amount of big names involved, and more importantly, big names that normally would report or make videos on this being dead silent because everyone is part of the same massive Twitch/YouTube circlejerk nowadays will mean no one will care.
If Karl Jobst or Muta go after something that has Hasan and Asmongoloid involved, I would be very surprised, but I wouldn't be if they did jackshit about this.

According to the article, 37 influencers were involved. 2.6 million dollars divided by 37 is approx 70,000 dollars. Asmongold, Mizkif, Hasan, and Penguinz0 all make millions every year. I have a hard time believing they'd knowlingly scam anyone and risk their reputation for such a relatively paltry sum.
