Literally everything he says in that tweet is either projection or could be fully applied to him and his genre. If anything, the whole nerd and culture analysis side of YouTube has become so oversaturated that it is impossible to find any success in it. It is the go to thing that your average simpleton decides to talk about, and most of the time they are just reusing the same dumb talking points that a million other spergs have made on the internet. It is about as safe of content as one person can make now and days, and it really has become so played out that only a few can maintain success in it.

The real irony is that unlike the movie or game sphere side of YouTube, the sports side really has a higher track level of success. As long as you are somewhat competent you can find success in it. Even Barry McCockiner who is on the lower end of editing quality has developed a sizable fanbase off his videos. It isn't just analysis either, a lot of people want to hear the stories telling the history side of things and how things got to be the way they are today.

If Bob wasn't the complete retard he is, it isn't out of the realm of possibility that he could have actually found success talking about sports the way he pretends he did with media. McCockiner has proved you can even be an asshole when it comes to your personality and still find success.

The thing is, Bob is so old and has been doing this for so long if he had and drive or talent he'd likely be a success. He was one of these people who had a shot at never having to work a real job and still being relatively successful. I think we always compare him to Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw. I think Yahtzee does pretty well for himself. The Escapist gave Bob more or less the same exact break they gave Yahtzee. Yahtzee is still going strong, while Bob hasn't managed to maintain interest.

I can't imagine Bob successfully shifting to sports commentary, I just don't think he has the knowledge or interest. He'd be such an obvious fake fan I think people would laugh at him. I guess the one thing he could talk about without being fake would be pro-wrestling from when he was a kid. If that succeeded, I guess he could move into talking about current wrestling, but he'd have to make the effort to start taking an interest in it. Quickly, Aunt Becky is in reference to Lori Loughlin from Full House, her character was Aunt Becky. She's the woman who got caught bribing her kids into college and went to prison for two months for it.

Also, I loved that "Yeah, NY and Kansas have the exact same schools" because you know he assumes that Kansas is still exactly like it was in Wizard of Oz and that all NY schools have impeccable standards, because that's how they look in TV. I've always loved Bob's recent attempts at re-imagining his history as a student. In old videos he admits he wasn't a good student. In the book he claims it's because he had an issue with authority and only tried when he was promised an SNES if he got his grades up to mediocre, which required effort from him. Then he tries telling everyone he was brilliant, but he was held back by his parents not putting him into gifted programs, otherwise he would have done amazingly well. And now it's he could have outdone the Harvard kids, but his parents couldn't afford it.

What was funny was when Sarah Anderson put out this comic, a few people were saying how they related to it and Bob tried to claim he could as well. Except the reason gifted kids burn out is because of the high expectations placed on them. Bob admitted in his book he had no expectations on him, he was praised for reaching C level, and was even advised to go see a therapist.
