Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

GTA has been mainstream since GTA III. Even discounting the "games weren't mainstream" back then talk, GTA still became mainstream thanks to Jack Thompson types.

The problem people have with it now isn't that GTA became mainstream, but that the "mainstream" became a horde of late Millennials, Zoomers and Gen Alpha faggots.
In the UK, GTA was mainstream from day one. A morning news programme aired a video showing GTA 1 gameplay and how the game is disgusting. Aemon Holmes, a presenter, went on to bash the people who made or will play the game (it hadn't released yet).

I had never heard of GTA before that point. I went out and bought a pirate copy when it released. Fuck you HMV and your ID checks.

At least other genres refined their process, tried different things. CoD is vastly different from Halo which is vastly different from Wolfenstien. Most JRPGs are just Dragon Warrior with better graphics.
Is CoD really different from those games? Thematically sure, but playing Halo felt like playing CoD to me, basically, except I didn't like the aesthetic of Halo and CoD's controls just felt a bit tighter to me.

At least with JRPGs nobody is going to mix up Dragon Quest with Persona, even if they play similarly there's still a lot different in tone, story, and even gameplay at least compared to shooters.

RPGs also meld better with other genres, lending them a different flavor, like how Persona does life simulation or Rune Factory does farming simulation. You can't as easily do that with an FPS, I mean maybe you could do a Halo/framing simulator but I don't know how good that'd be.

Fallout Japan
They're probably afraid of being racist, the best time for this would've been right after Fallout 3, we'd get funny stereotypes and samurai mutants and shit.

He's correct. Did he mention that 90% of gear isn't interesting enough to justify it being that way?
I don't think so. He does shit on the game overall.

I hear old-timers here talk about people getting bullied for playing games, and I think, what, in the Stone Age? Back on your Amiga Commodore COLOSSUS whatever? The idea sounds so far fetched, I don't doubt it but it's hard for me to imagine.
I was never bullied for it, but then my school was fairly small and the Playstation was out by then. Meat Target and the Ugly One said there is an assumption among boomers that games are kids toys, but that still continues to this day with some women. I've heard stories across the internet of women turning off a guys console mid game because it's somehow "unmanly" or manchild behaviour. In RL I know someone who's ex would take the batteries out of controllers when she left the house so he couldn't game in secret.

I imagine it's that kind of thing, but from dudebro jock types who only care about sportsball.

In games with Ranked Ladders, despite some people making jokes that leagues such as Plastic, Wood, Wheelchair, Paper, etc., below Bronze, should be a thing, I am also one of those people want those. Granted, some games already have Leagues below Bronze (since Bronze is usually the lowest rank), i.e. League of Legends has Iron, and Rainbow6 Siege has Copper. I do wonder why Counter-Strike has Silver as the lowest rank, and not Bronze, though.

Also, I believe that with Ranked Ladders, the bottom leagues should have the highest amount of people in the ranked ladder, with higher ranks having less people. Most Ranked Ladder games have the lowest ranks with a very small amount of people. (In StarCraft 2, as an example, Bronze League only contains 4% of the players on the ranked ladder)

You know how some loading screens would provide tips or play good music in the background? There should be an option to stay in the loading screen until you press a button. Example: GTA IV would play Soviet Connection and show character art. My Series X would barely go through the first loading panel because of the SSD.

This is a problem with older strategy games or RTS games. Where the loading screen showed stuff like opponent races or spawn locations or whatever. And now with remasters and faster PCs the loading screens are gone if you blink. And there is no other way to retrieve the information outside of taking a screenshot and tabbing out to view it.

Can't imagine why they broke up.

This isn't an unpopular opinion at all.

The 3d worms games are good games and I had more fun playing them than worms Armageddon and the other 2d worms games. People that complain about them being too difficult to pick up and play just suck at playing games.

That's definitely a thing that goes beyond games. The kind of woman that'd turn off the console abruptly or hide the controller batteries would also be the type to whine about a man who works on his car a lot, or calls him selfish if he makes a meal she doesn't particularly enjoy.

It's like a parallel to those idiots that steadfastly believe cartoons are strictly for children, despite Fritz the Cat being over 50 years old. I guess if your whole life revolves around clutching pearls, you've always got a new violent game to point to and blame on all the world's woes.

Def Jam: Fight for NY was ahead of its time, culturally and expressively. Think about it: a gripping, arcade hip-hop themed fighting game where you rise up in the fighting underworld where you brawl various rappers around slum like locations in NYC. If you THINK about it, it's World Star: The Video Game.

There was a 3D Worms-like on Playstation called Hogs of War that was quite well recieved. It never had the mass normie audience of Worms, but it seemed to be well liked in it's day.

It also showed that wrestling game mechanics didn't need to limited to sweaty men in trunks.

Unpopular opinion tax: there's nothing wrong with reusing assets or engines. Complaining about that is like complaining that an author didn't type their novel on a word processor they developed from scratch, instead of using Microsoft Word.
Agree. It's rare I notice (or care) about the engine or assets unless we are entering Big Rigs territory. My first question is: is the game fun? If it's fun, sure, I'll play a asset flip. Just don't cheat me on gameplay and we good.

That was Vendetta. Fight for NY expanded its fighting styles with martial arts, streetfighting, kickboxing and submissions. I can argue that Fight for NY is hood Smash Bros. because of its multiple artists, four player multiplayer and varied fighting styles.

Michael Kirkbride is overrated as fuck. Did he do good work? Absolutely. Should he be treated as the sole reason Elder Scrolls is (or at least was) good? Not in a million years.
It's crazy, cause even Kirkbride himself will say this and often points to Kurt Kuhlmann as being the big Elder Scrolls lore creator IIRC

Kirkbride only gets so much attention because he uses the forums/reddit so autistic fanboys grew an emotional attachment to him.

Hardcore Morrowind/Kirkbride fans are some of the most deranged types around. They also tend to be super fucking gay and, in recent years, are all about trooning out.

I say this as someone who loves Morrowind and it's setting. The kind of people who are obsessed with it are fucking freaks who see Vivec as a role model.
