It took months, perhaps years for a small crew of Lubavitchers to dig a secret passageway underneath the famed headquarters of the Chabad movement. They would not let it be filled so easily.

The New York Police Department was called Monday to 770 Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights neighborhood, where a number of Chabad students — most in their teens and early twenties — mounted a last stand against construction crews called to fill in the tunnel connecting the synagogue at that location to the defunct Chabad mikvah around the corner.

In videos circulating on Chabad community news sources and social media, Lubavitchers can be seen ripping down the wood paneling on the south wall of the synagogue, revealing a cavernous concrete space about 20 feet wide underneath the women’s section. Several young men were sitting or standing in the space — apparently to prevent it from being filled — as scores of others watched or recorded video on their phones. The length of the tunnel is unclear from the videos.

NYPD eventually made 10 arrests, according to community news outlet CrownHeights.info. Video showed several men in Lubavitcher garb being led out, their wrists bound with zip ties.

Locked in litigation

The chaos at 770 — the former home of the late Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson — was the culmination of a controversy that began when the tunnel was discovered in early December, and the latest chapter in a multi-year battle between the Chabad-Lubavitch movement and synagogue leadership for control of the iconic building.

Chabad-Lubavitcher movement spokesperson Rabbi Motti Seligson declined to comment.

It was unclear what motivated the creation of the tunnel and why some students reacted so strongly to the arrival of a cement truck Monday morning to fill it. Reports said the people behind the tunnel’s excavation — it was unconfirmed who that was, but sources tended to agree they began within the last year or two — had hoped to “expand” 770, but it was not obvious how the tunnel accomplished that.

A video posted on the CrownHeights.info Instagram in December showed a dark, dirt-walled crawl space allegedly beginning in the recesses of the former Chabad Women’s Mikvah, located at 1506 Union Street. Large dirt mounds obstruct much of the basement.

After the tunnel’s discovery, the leadership of Beis Chayeinu — the Chabad synagogue that meets in 770 — hired structural engineers to determine the extent of the damage and the safety issue it posed, and eventually moved to fill it.

According to Haredi news source Collive.com, the students who tried to stop the filling of the tunnel were mostly from Israel and associated with Chabad Messianism — whose adherents believe that Schneerson, the sixth Lubavitcher Rebbe, was the Messiah. The Chabad-Lubavitch movement publicly disavows those beliefs.

But the movement, despite years of litigation, does not control 770 Eastern Parkway, though it owns the title. It has been locked in litigation with Beis Chayeinu over control of the building for decades.

Its about two groups of particularly annoying and argumentative orthodox jews

Is there any other kind?

a real estate dispute over a Holy Basement in Brooklyn.

And is there anything more stereotypical a Jewish argument? You know, besides endlessly trying to rules lawyer your way around God?

He already said this extreme group of jews that are a very small sect, aren't actually that extreme and infact meet with heads of state and dignitaries all over the world. He's just another jew running cover for the whole operation. Now they talk about weird jew shit that is completely wrong since it was disproved by Jesus Christ himself 400 years before they put pen to paper.
He's saying the Chabadniks that did the tunnels are of the schizo sub-group who believe their dead Rebbe was the Messiah so they needed secret access to their Holy Milkva basement. He's not wrong.

Where I sort of part ways is that the schizos may have been doing more than tunnel digging given that they're, you know, schizos who like to play fast and loose with the strict rules of Hasidic Judaism, and exactly what they were up to is something we that we may or may not ever ascertain.

> @wtfNeedSignUp is just stoning Palestinian children and gooning to Mato Seihei no Slave instead of being on the JIDF

What other Jewish users can we compare to Catch the Rainbow going it’s “Anudda Shoah” to shit posts about the Jew Tunnels of New York.
I haven't stoned children like a month now, also didn't catch up on new anime yet because IRL shit. As for the tunnels, I don't know or care. I have heard Chabed do some shady shit, but I really doubt it reaches further than inside the Jewish community. Plus those people usually marry at like 18, not enough time to develop the usual degeneracy of fucking a ton of people at college.

In a nutshell, the short story is these tunnels were probably dug in the last few years by students of the Chabad Yeshiva (a bulk of whom aren't even American) to circumvent covid restrictions, much to the chagrin of the Chabad sect who actually own the building. They're basically two different entities at this point and they've really been butting heads the last 30 years over stupid bullshit. It's pretty much a pissing contest over who has the rights to the building. @wtfNeedSignUp or @EyeGuy probably have more patience to explain.
Yep, two Jewish legs going nuts at each other. The tunnel was probably an attempt to hurt the building or get more sweet sweet NYC real estate (made with unpaid religious student labor)

>This specific sect of Jews is totally nuts, but let me spend couple days running defense for them.
The lady doth protest too much, methinks
Most of that was talking about Judaism in general tbf, the parts where I actually talk about Messianics I'm not too fond of them. Like I mentioned, I've been sick and have not much else to do.

Chabadniks believe their top Rabbi the Rebbe to be Mashiach.
Some do, its not a majority.

types of Mashiach in Judaism
Mashiach Ben Yosef and Ben David. Yosef is a politcian/warrior/rabbi who dies in battle and Ben David picks up his mantle and finishes the job. The rebbe doesn't fit the role of either.

Boy I think I learned more about judaism by reading the autistic jewish slapfighting in this thread, than I think at any other time in my entire life.

But I also went to catholic school so all we were taught was that jews who didn't accept jesus were heretics so fuck them and who cares.

Yes Chabadniks believe their top Rabbi the Rebbe to be Mashiach.
There are multiple types of Mashiach in Judaism not only one.
Calling Chabadniks a shizo subgroup is disingenuous.
They are not some tiny fringe sect, they are the most influential of them all.
You're the one being disingenuous; I posted the tunnelers are a sub group of Chabad-Lubavitch, not that the Lubavitchers are a subgroup. You really don't know what you're talking about, you just regurgitate the jew hate shit that's posted on /pol/.

Case in point:
Mashiach Ben Yosef and Ben David. Yosef is a politcian/warrior/rabbi who dies in battle and Ben David picks up his mantle and finishes the job. The rebbe doesn't fit the role of either.

I'm surprised no one used the whole "Oh yeah. That's my sub basement tunnel, don't you have one? Everyone in this district owns one. I know a guy who can install it for you, he's a good guy, was able to put up a tunnel at my cousin's last week. Real quick, real nice."

Not just Chabad headquarters: The secret Jewish history of secret Jewish tunnels

Jewish groups through history have used tunnels for warfare, resource transportation and more

By Camillo BaroneJanuary 10, 2024

News of the secret construction of a tunnel at Chabad’s headquarters in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights neighborhood — complete with images of dramatic scenes of clashes between Chabad students and NYPD officers dispatched to ensure the tunnel was filled in — has been circulating around the world. (And, yes, launching new conspiracy theories.)
Yet while news of a secret tunnel attached to a religious group may seem surprising in 2023, Jewish history has often involved the construction of secret tunnels. They helped transport resources, and have served as important strategic strongholds, hideouts or means of escape in times of war.

there are PERFECTLY good reasons for jews to build tunnels everywhere (nazis) so any speculation as to what this tunnel was for is antisemitic and totally has nothing to do with blood libel or raping kids. anyway the tunnel doesn't exist anymore. in fact it is the PALESTINIANS who build tunnels everywhere, goy. why are you so OBSESSED with secret jew tunnels?

You're the one being disingenuous; I posted the tunnelers are a sub group of Chabad-Lubavitch, not that the Lubavitchers are a subgroup. You really don't know what you're talking about, you just regurgitate the jew hate shit that's posted on /pol/.
I don't know who is Jewing who anymore!

If y'all think the Chabadniks in the Big Apple are weird and creepy, y'all would have a field day upstate at Kiryas Joel with the Satmars.

More seriously, though, as a mild anti-Semite, I will give the Chabadniks credit for being open and friendly with non-Jews. Most haredim treat the goys with contempt and rudeness when forced to deal with them. They certainly have no qualms about taking all the welfare the goys offer, though.

The real menace ain't the funny hat and forelocks squad anyways, but damn do most of them not give a shit about rubbing outsiders the wrong way.

It's really really funny because they piss off the Democrat Jews which are most Jews in the United States, although that might be changing because of the war in israel
Chabad HATES Israel and does not believe it should exist, something it shares with many if not most varieties of so-called ultra-Orthodox.
