The owner of a popular left-leaning bagel shop in Washington state was shot and killed while vacationing in New Orleans on Friday.

Jacob Carter, 32, was gunned down near the intersection of Bourbon Street and Kerlerec Street on Friday. Police said that the shooter allegedly approached Carter and shot him to death before fleeing the scene, according to the News Tribune. Authorities have not yet released a suspect description.

Carter co-owned the woke "proudly queer" Howdy Bagel shop in Tacoma, Washington alongside his husband, Daniel Blagovich, who was vacationing with Carter at the time of his death.

"He died in my arms," Blagovich told the outlet.

The pair opened Howdy Bagel shop after both Carter and Blagovich were laid off from their jobs during the pandemic. They first sold their baked goods at farmers' markets in 2021, which was a wild success that resulted in the couple opening a brick-and-mortar restaurant located at 5421 South Tacoma Way.

According to its Instagram account, Howdy Bagel shop describes itself as "proud and openly queer." The company gives a "land acknowledgment" to the Puyallup, Steilacoom, and Walla Walla native American tribes.

Pictures featured on the Instagram account include support for far-left political movements such as Black Lives Matter. Howdy Bagel also has a "Pride Progress" flag displayed in its storefront window.

In a post announcing Carter's death, Howdy Bagel wrote on Instagram: "If you knew Jake, you know he was someone who exuded kindness, warmth, and genuine care to everyone he met. Jake was one of the brightest spots in the lives of everyone he loved. This loss is immeasurable for our community."

The statement went on to say that the storefront has temporarily closed to give Blagovich time to handle the tragic death and that donations are being accepted to help the shop's employees.

"Daniel and Jacob have been continually blown away and grateful for the ways that this community has rallied together to support Howdy Bagel. We know that in this difficult season, you will all continue to show up with love and support," it said.

The GoFundMe set up for Carter has amassed more than $239,000 in donations.

There's a gay bar right down the street.

-Go on vacation to insanely dangerous city
-with your husband
-you're bothlithpy mincers, AKA the easiest target for French Quarter random nigger violence
-skip arm in arm down to the gay bar
-shot by, most likely, a random violent nigger
-Police promise a thorough investigation, even though the NOPD is falling apart and the detectives any good at their job got fed up and left over the last 5 years (really the last twenty, but who's counting?)
-You are here
-Suspect identified
-Worthless Orleans parish DA lets them bond out
-Eventual trial for, probably, a misdemeanor

Maybe not, NOLA loves their gay tourist dollars, maybe he'll face real time since this is a real murder, not a 'Tyrone done shot Peanut for stepping on his Jordans' misdemeanor murders that are instantly forgotten because no one at all cares unless the family can somehow make a buck off a gofundme or a lawsuit if the murder happened on private property. Otherwise Peanut gets shovelled into Potter's field and, at most, Tyrone does a nickel or a dime at Angola. Unless Peanut's relatives find him and do a revenge murder, like a whole lot of New Orleans murders are. There are families around whose kill-counts dwarf the Hatfield-McCoy feud numbers. This goes on for decades, sometimes, until one of them gets busted for murdering a real person or gets caught with a kilo of heroin and reveals the whole thing for sentence considerations.

New Orleans is a very fucked-up city.

Nobody should go there. Normally tourist traps are safe but because of niggers they let them do whatever they want. When I went there there was a little Guatemalaian illegal kid 8-10 being forced to perform by an older black guy. Shit is fucked up

Very much this. It's a shithole with shit bars and lots of people just looking to start shit or rob you if you look like an easy mark. Don't ever go there during Mardi Gras either. It's super-disgusting and full of drunk swine and street nigs who think that because the laws against public intoxication are ignored this one day, all other laws are too, so they try to pick your pockets or try to grab your wife/girlfriend/daughter or just whip out they dick and show it to those stuck-up honky bitches. Or deck random people or bouncers or cops just because.

Why didn't this faggot realize New Orleans is a dangerous shithole where you should be carrying.

P.S. I would still visit New Orleans instead of New York.
While the older mayor's were pretty shit, they at least knew where their bread and butter came from: tourism and conventions. This ugly nigger woman that's mayor now can't even protect the tourist areas.

The murder rate was always very high, but you could rest assured that 100% of it was nigger on nigger over drug turf and the lesser nonsense that niggos kill one another over. Now, it's spilling out of the neighborhoods where it was once contained and moving a bit into the French Quarters. That's a very new thing and it's all because of this California nigger pig they elected as mayor. That's right, she ain't even from here so wtf could she know?

But, you know, you get what you deserve. Those black faggots elected her. They used to keep the tourist areas somewhat clean too. Now all you hear is how dirty it is. You think people are telling their relatives and friends when they get back from vacation to visit a dirty place like that? Where tourists get shot by the local wildlife? I don't think so.

And to think, the city council was nearly all White in 2006 and the niggers cried to no end about that. Well, now it's yours. And it's garbage now with you in charge. Turned into shit, like everything else you people touch.

so they try to pick your pockets or try to grab your wife/girlfriend/daughter or just whip out they dick and show it to those stuck-up honky bitches. Or deck random people or bouncers or cops just because.
I've been to many, many Mardi Gras's when I was a young man and I've never seen any shit like this. That giant crowd is filled with undercover cops. They'll throw you in jail if you get drunk and take your dick out. I've seen it. They kinda look the other way with the women and their tits, but if you show cock you will be sent to the Parish prison. And don't piss anywhere either unless you're a master like me. That jail is filled with pissers and cock showers during that particular season.

Whenever you see it, its never people showing their cocks to innocent families, it will always be this: some drunk retard sees some tits, and the drunk tit flasher is like, "Show me your cock!" and retard obliges and gets handcuffs slapped on him within seconds.

The worse that usually happens is they start up 3 card Monty games in the middle of the crowd, and I've seen those start up and get shut down within 2 minutes. That's the one time of year the nopd is on top of shit.

That being said, I still wouldn't bring my family to the city during that time. It's just not fun with that dynamic. It's too crowded and you wont even have a good spot to watch the parades because all the good spots are taken up by insane locals who camp out there.

I never understood tourists who bring their families to the French Quarters during Mardi Gras. It's loud and chaotic, and the best thing to do is hit all the bars and clubs and drink all day and night. You can't do that with a family. When I was a kid, the years we'd watch the parades on Mardi Gras day in the city, we'd all have a place to park and watch the parades right up front because friends and family members had their job's offices or their homes on or very near the parade routes. There would be all kinds of food and alcohol, a comfortable, indoor place to rest when you got tired and somewhere to go if you had to piss.

Tourists never have that luxury. They're fighting with all the other schlubs for space and they have no place to chill when they get tired. It really seems like a horrible idea to go in the city that day.

If you have a family, go watch the parades in the suburbs. They're just as good, you can still drink yourself stupid if that's your prerogative, and no dumb niggers around. They're still crowded but not nearly as crowded as the city proper and you'll be able to get an okay spot if you get there a little early.

WHY?!

Puyallup tribe apparently has plenty of land in the area and they run all kinds of businesses on them. It's actually hard not to run into them around the border between King and Pierce county around Tacoma. Casinos sure, they run fucking massive ones, but also shitloads of tax-free smokeshops, and gas stations which have the cheapest and best quality gas until you hit Oregon or parts of eastern WA. There's plenty of other stuff, some of it isn't quite as obvious, but business is booming for them.

They don't need the land acknowledged, people do that every day when travel to that land to fork over their cash to the only people in the state not taxing them to death.

The whole area is infested with rats. I am a morning person that loves to go on early morning runs at the places I travel to before pigging out at the hotel breakfast buffet.

Ever since I started my runs when I was a teen visiting my extended family in Tokyo, I never had a negative experience until New Orleans. On this run, I met niggers trying to scam or rob me but the worse thing were the fucking rats. I saw about a dozen of them and they were the size of a chihuahua.

Fucking vile.

That being said, even the turn down attendant at the very British Windsor Court weren't fazed when they saw the pistol on my waistband as I showed them where their pillow were as I had brought my own.

Me too, and I saw examples of each behavior.

I know it's not a real source or anything but the old Mardi Gras episodes of COPS had exactly that sort of thing. The amusing part was the look on their faces when the cops explained to them in simple language that they were indeed under arrest, and it wasn't just a ticket fine like public urination. The college kids were especially precious. "What do you mean my actions have consequences? This is Mardi Gras!" Sorry, Chet, those aren't the magic words.

Also, I own a business on Royal Street and over the years I've slowly started to hate tourists, especially Mardi Gras tourists. I've had some try to piss in my courtyard over the years, and there's a bathroom literally five feet away.

Yeah the rats are bad in the Quarter, there's a lot of huge river rats from the riverfront. Don't ever walk down there at night. There's a few good bars on Decatur street that I used to love back in the day. I used to rent a room above one of them when I was a young, skeevy French Quarter bartender. Two, actually, now that I think of it, because I moved once. Checkpoint Charlie's used to have a ridiculously hot bartender I dated a few times. The problem there was the live music coming up through the floor. It felt like an earthquake sometimes. It was kinda fun to put silverware on my table and watch them dance.

Has New Orleans ever recovered from Katrina? I imagine now, New Orleans is No Man's Land in every way possible without fear of your safety or life.

I like New Orleans and used to go there regularly, but the last few years it's gotten so bad I won't go there anymore. The murder rate is nuts.

That said, the place he was plugged is about 6 blocks past Jackson Square and a couple blocks past the African American Museum, so it's pretty much a No Go Zone for me even in the daytime. The article doesn't say what time it happened, but I suspect it wasn't 2 in the afternoon so he was even dumber.

Neighbors say a car found in Bayou St. John is connected to the murder of Washington tourist

New details in the murder investigation of a tourist shot and killed in New Orleans while in town for the start of Carnival Season.

Neighbors tell WDSU they believe a blue car pulled out of Bayou St. John Tuesday is connected to the murder of 32-year-old Jacob Carter. He was shot and killed last Friday morning at the intersection of Bourbon and Kerlerec.

People believe the blue car belonged to the suspect who shot and killed Carter.

Workers told WDSU they called the cops after noticing the car floating in the bayou.

Brian Franklin lives in the Bayou St. John area and said, "Unfortunately it's the time we live in. I know from years ago this is not really uncommon."

Carter was in town with his husband on vacation from Tacoma, Washington, when he was murdered. At this time we do not know the circumstances surrounding the situation.

A resident in the area said surveillance turned over to NOPD clearly showed the shooter hop inside a blue car after committing the crime. Another neighbor said he heard gunfire then loud screams that night.

"I did see someone administering CPR to another person for several minutes. When the police arrived they removed this person he let out a horrible horrible scream that I've never heard in a human."

Tourists in town right now said the crime has reminded them to stay vigilant.

Darius from Boston said, "It's a crazy thing to hear that it was someone in town just as we are. Here having a good time. And now they are no longer here."

WDSU reached out to Howdy Bagel, the shop Carter co-owned with his husband in Washington State. They are temporarily closed.

Over $200,000 has been donated since Carter's death.

Neighbors in the area of Bourbon and Kerlerec said Monday the street lights were not working at the time of the crime.

Since then we reached out to the city and the city was able to fix one light. On Wednesday they were working to determine if other lights in the area also belonged to the city or to Entergy in solving the issue.

Has New Orleans ever recovered from Katrina? I imagine now, New Orleans is No Man's Land in every way possible without fear of your safety or life.
It's long since recovered but the places we're talking about didn't flood in the first place. I live in Lakeview, and the levee broke a couple blocks from me, so the neighborhood was basically destroyed. But there's a lot of money in that neighborhood, so it came back quite fast.

There's one spot in particular though that is still pretty empty. You see houses that someone bought so they're all new and fixed up while rest of the street is essentially empty with homes that nobody lives in and empty lots. My friend has a business not far from that neighborhood, so he bought one of those houses and fixed it up, supposedly so his brother could live there, but he just ended up using it as a place to bring his whores.

There's not many places like that though. Most everywhere else is fine. Looking just as good or better than it did pre 2005 hurricane. It's not the same though. I can't put my finger on it, but the city isn't nearly as cool or as fun as it used to be. I'm not even referring to the crime, that's not something I ever worried about because I don't walk around like an oblivious tourist. I have the healthy and necessary skepticism that one needs when having a night out in a place where there is the possibility that hustlers, whores, pushers, and bums might be scoping you out. It's not me getting older either. Maybe a little bit of that now, but I had the same feeling when I was younger in the years following 2005. It's just a lot of the things that made the place so much fun aren't there anymore. Great restaurants, bars, clubs, etc that were off the beaten path, not tourist joints but places where locals and the service industry people went for a drink when they got off... idk it just seems like there are less of those now.

As far as the crime, it was actually a lot worse in the 80s and 90s with the heroin and all the killing. It's softened significantly since then. It's just that back then, it was limited to certain areas far from the places where tourists would want to go. Now, with cases like this, it's spilling out into those tourist areas.
