Based? Yes. Good? No, not really. The fed's response to Abbot doing this is going to be extremely violent. "It's a governor trying to secede" is going to be the narrative. Best (or worst) case is it's all done via lawfare, a federal judge issues a writ of "knock that shit off" and TNG instantly cucks and Abbot turns himself in. Worst (or best) case has the feds start shooting at TNG and we get some hot state on state action and Abbot gets Bin Laden'd.

I'm 50/50 on this. On one hand, the TX-GOP is cuckservative ground zero. A judge in Hawaii issuing a C&D is all the cover they need to say, "Welp, nothing we can do, the LAW says we have to allow infinite Latinos in!" On the other hand, the illegal hordes are legit fucking up Texas to the point where even the libs, let alone the cucks, feel like it's going too far.
I do think that either way, the feds are far far too cowardly and gay to start a shooting war with Texas which is, uh, the top source of combat infantry in America. Fat gay negresses don't do the actual shooting in the Army, everyone knows this. What they are more likely to do is publicly announce that illegal aliens should start crossing in Big Bend National Park, which is federal land, so the Biden administration can have federal agents assist his cartel buddies in their mass-scale human trafficking operations without the state having any access. Granted, Big Bend is an inhospitable hellscape, but the Democrats are pretty committed to accelerating drug trafficking, slavery, and child rape as fast as they can, so that's their best option.

History and precedent says soldiers tend to rebel when told to raze their own home towns and shoot their own families. It's why Roman garrisons were populated with legionaries from just about any region except the one they were charged with pacifying. If the feds want to make war on Texas, they're not stupid enough to trust Texans to do it, but removing Texans and sympathizers from the combat forces means the military they'll be invading with will be suffering a significant manpower shortage.
Hell, the feds are already very publicly panicking that there are too many combat troops with unacceptable loyalties and sympathies, imagine what they must be saying behind closed doors.
