If this is accurate, it would be both unprecedented and stupid. The US owes its independence to French aid and repeatedly the US helped Europe. We've seen Germany show their complete lack of spine politically as well as militarily in their limp-wristed efforts in Afghanistan.

I assume this stuff isn't standardised widely? I've seen it standardised on a unit-to-unit basis but ususally only the mounts for specific munitions are craft built (or in the case of dropped munitions, stabilising fins). Interesting to see the ingenuity coming from war (reinforcing that war breeds innovation).

Ukrainian drone builders both inside & out of individual units have been working towards standardization across the board with FPV, but largely not because of any command directives.

A lot of it has to do with the nature of drone procurement & builders (i.e. Wild Hornets, Escadrone, etc) sharing their architectures & 3D print recipies, and the instant feedback from the units themselves; made possible by the internet and the AFU's lassiez faire attitude towards drones in general.

But while the drones (and their payload delivery systems) have become fairly standardized, the payloads have always been improvised; i.e grenades with 3D printed fin-assemblies slapped on, fragmentation sleeves & modified fuses. But even there things are starting to change, and there is considerable growing interest from foreign militaries in Ukrainian drone builders; so standardization across the board is a big step in marketing later.

France and the UK can at least support operations in some independent way, but while France is actually trying to restore capacity, the Tories were supposedly looking for cuts to or even abolition of the Royal Marines. And the Royal Navy has to look after Irish territorial waters as the Irish Naval Service barely exists. Greece has long had a very decent navy in the Hellenic Navy given geography and their eternal frenemy the Turkroaches. Belgium, which could in late colonial days operate in the Congo now lacks even air defense. Its guns are good, though. Scholz is talking the talk, but largely its only his Polak neighbor who's done something. Sweden has great potential and some capability.

Overall, the Ukraine war has seen efforts to restore defense industry capacity beyond those toys sold to Arabs by the biggest briber and spending increased towards minimal levels. Regarding Trump, his gullibility regarding 'the Chink bug / Operation Warpspeed' and his cravenness towards Israel, doesn't entirely promise wise decisionmaking from good advisors. The problem is the EU, ultimately. Its members all want to fob responsibility for national defence onto the Union as a whole, so they can stop spending their own money on it - apparently operating under the belief that the funds will just magically appear from nowhere - and stop having to take the sort of strategic decisions that fielding a military requires.

France wanted the EURRF (the rapid reaction force, which was intended to eventually become the Single European Tank) as a counter to NATO, but dominated by French tactical and strategic doctrine, though naturally she wanted to maintain her own independent military for her adventures in l'Afrique. The EURRF was effectively stillborn, because most of the rest of the EU member states didn't want to pay for it, but they also don't want to pay for their own militaries either. If it was viable at any point, the UK leaving scuppered it entirely, as it was heavily reliant on Royal Navy assets for maritime support; the carriers, especially.

The UK was, predictably, schizophrenic about the whole thing as the original purpose of its EU membership was the fuck with the French, but there was a certain level of enthusiasm in the military for pooling resources, as it meant there would be more shiny toys to play with.

Germany just wants to suckle on cheap Russian gas, dominate central Europe, and turn its heartlands into a wilderness park, without having to worry about the geopolitical consequences of its actions. It was ever thus.

I think that it was a tactical mistake to not exile him, but I enjoy the seething of Amerimutts who demand that the 56%er from Chile should have been saved by a Navy Seals team.
