The Canadian Armed Forces have only three days' worth of ammunition so resistance will melt away quickly, and Ottawa doesn't give any motivation for the prairies to stay loyal.
Here's hoping that it will chase my annoying Nigerian housemates out.

Alberta winter is brutal. Entire prairie has never been developed because of it. Plus it's position of trade is completely out of wack.

Dude, voting would have probably fixed it a decade ago, but we're no longer at that stage, we're at the reap and sow stage so buckle up. The same people who laughed and called the Truckers fascists at the slightest pretext, but forgave the liberals for giving an actual nazi a standing ovation in parliament (im assuming not your parents, but many are like this) think that now is the time to fix things? Don't make me laugh.
Most of our issues are like this, where we reached the point of permanent damage years ago.

Its basically been half a million new permanent residents every year, for the past several. Even if you cut student visas now, its basically too late. You cannot boot these people out, whether through kids theyre having here while on student visas (anchor babies), or just giving permanent residencies away (like with the Pali refugees recently, due to family connections), they are here to stay. Seeing Indians on resumes, thats not going to be stopping with "20,000 dollar requirements to stay". Thats only going to slow the flow.
Like even now, theyre trying to give them the vote, so you can guess why Poilievre is trying to entice the ones who have stayed here for 5 years already (2018 ) by stabbing nativist Canadians in the back. Its a great new demographic to exploit.
Isn't that like every issue to the mouth breathers? Not Canada related, but on the trans issue- Ive had people agree with me or say worse than Ive ever said now, and when I bring up "Hay, remember when you called me a fascist for suggesting that we needed to protect women's sports, or not to cut off trans kids penises and tits?" Its always "yeah, well, uh, your tone was bad" or something dumb like that.
Its the same with everything. Theyll bitch, yell, call you names, etc- until they literally can't any longer because its affecting them directly. Only then will it not just be a "right wing conspiracy" or "dog whistle", but because it affects the shitlib directly, suddenly its relevant and matters.

Most Indians in this country are non-permanent residents, and can theoretically be deported once their visas expire. That would go a long way towards fixing this country.

I agree, but I see 400,000 -500,000 permanent residencies granted in 2020, 2021, 2022, in 2023 and I just feel such a sense of doom about that. Like that can't be undone

Is it even the pajeets that are homeless though? In Onterrible there isn’t many Indian homeless I have seen. They usually live 10 to a bachelor apartment here. I don’t know what it’s like out west though.

Reminds me when I started my last job that's mostly outdoors, it was the first day after a snow storm so it was cold and a slog to move around, and a Nigerian guy who was experiencing his first winter was also starting that day.
He quit at the end of his shift.

Saw a poll yesterday claiming the PPC was running at 8% with the 18-29 demographic and 1-2% with everyone older.
I'm assuming it's over housing resentment, given the NDP also polls a lot higher in the demo as well both currently and historically.
Was checking weather forecasts for Pearson yesterday and the high was 2C.

When the cold weather is stressing the power grid of Alberta. Only time will tell if it would be a repeat of the power outages in Texas in 2021 when that area frozen over. Moral of the story is that Solar and Wind Farms are absolutely unreliable.

I seem to recall that Texas was forbidden from firing up extra gas plants due to environmental restrictions. I don't think we will have that exact same problem, providing no alternate issues crop up

Dennis and Linda Weaver are grieving the death of their golden retriever, Brody, who fell through the ice on the river behind their house while chasing a bird and struggled for an hour while the frantic couple watched in agony.
The Weavers, both 71, said when their 10-year-old dog went through the ice on January 2, Linda immediately called 911.
The couple describes having had a tough two years, with Linda having had a heart attack and Dennis having a double bypass. The Weavers also lost their daughter to a heart attack 18 months ago.
"It's just been a rough two years with losing our daughter," Linda said.
So when their beloved Brody fell through the ice, the Weavers were desperate to save him.
In an email to CTV News, Linda said firefighters with the South River Fire Department showed up, stood at the shoreline, and informed the distraught couple they couldn't do anything to help, noting the department does not make water or ice rescues for pets and wildlife due to the risks.
Linda said she and her husband pleaded with them to do something to save their dog.
"He says, 'There's no sense cause I'm not doing anything,' and I kind of went, 'What?" she said.
According to the fire chief, the Weaver's home is situated along fast-moving swift water, making the situation dangerous.
"They're not trained for doing swift water, nor are they trained to tether to an animal," said South River Machar Fire Chief Risto Maki.
"I said, 'I cannot stand here and watch my dog die," Dennis said.
The 71-year-old said he was prepared to tie a rope around his waist, go onto the ice, and asked the firefighter to help him with his boat. "He says, 'You can't do that because if something happens, we can't save you."
"By this time, our Brody had been swimming around 30 minutes trying to break the ice and crying," Linda told CTV News. "We didn't know how long he would last."
Dennis tried throwing rocks to break the ice and help Brody escape but to no avail.
Roughly an hour since Brody first went into the water, Linda called a neighbour, and as their dog went under the ice for the final time, they arrived and rushed down to the river with their canoe.
Within five minutes, Linda said her neighbours had retrieved Brody and attempted to revive him, but it was too late.
The fire chief said the Weavers were told crews wouldn't be able to retrieve their pet when they called for service. A municipal bylaw prevents firefighters from providing services they aren't trained for, weighed heavily by the cost of life and resources.
"The increase for that one particular service would be exponential," said Don MacArthur, South River Village clerk administrator.
Maki said when it comes to swift water, the procedure would have been the same even if it were a person through the ice.
"If this is their policy, it's a policy they shouldn't have," Linda said, adding they plan to speak to the municipal council at a meeting later this month to call for increased funding.
The fire chief said while he understands the Weaver's heartbreak, it's a decision he stands by.

You can hate the comment if you want, but this is pretty reasonable. Ice rescues and water rescues with strong currents are notoriously difficult, and firefighters even die during them sometimes. Like I feel for them, but this isn't a case of laziness. Its too dangerous to do that just for fido.
