Honestly I’m in the camp that Kishimoto just isn’t a very good writer and got lucky with a good editor. I mean who the fuck takes a story like Naruto and goes in the direction of fucking aliens and shit like that. Kishimoto could’ve just given Naruto a “Super Duper Ultimate Mega Instant Kill” jutsu out of thin air and I’d feel more satisfied by how the story ended than, “lul aliens bro and your kids gonna get alien herpes”. Don’t get me started on the massive amounts of wasted world building he threw away. Everyone I knew when Naruto was still ongoing were hyped to see what the Samurai and the Land of Iron were going to bring…… Man fuck you Kishimoto you gay ass nigga.

The fandom is even worse. It's one thing for fans to defend a shitty product, but Boruto is something completely different. The fans of Boruto I swear aren't reading the same manga because the manga will specifically say one thing, only for the fans to say something completely different. What I said above is a good example. The manga specifically says Shikamaru only figured out the swap one chapter ago and he has no plan to help Boruto but only can now start doing so in limited amounts. Yet the fans will insist "NO. He's a genius. He knew the entire time and this is all part of his plan". I've seen lots of retarded fandoms before, but never ones that have outright LIED and just made up things that never happened to defend the series.

Plus I swear, either Shounen or Toei or someone is flagging any videos badmouthing Two Blue Vortex's because there's none on YouTube.

Ikemoto took character designing classes from Tetsuya Nomura, if it wasn't obvious. I love watching Ikemoto desperately try to waste his time drawing all the accessories he gave Boruto and it just looks like shit. This chapter has him trying to do it from different angles, at you can clearly tell at what point he just gave up. I hope he re-designs Boruto soon for his own sake.

Ironically what you're describing is almost exactly what Samurai 8 was, verbatim. There was a foreign designed princess our protagonist who had to protect whom he was literally bonded to by the power system. We DID have an animal anthropomorphic master travelling around with his student that still contained x forbidden/demonic power inside him. You want to know what's funny about all this though?

It fucking sucked. Seriously, I'm beginning to wonder now as to whether or not Kishimoto was one of those one hit wonders who only got by because of his team. Perhaps Naruto was just lightning in a bottle and Kishimoto did most of the art while being under heavy monitoring and editing. It would explain why as Naruto grew in popularity and Kishimoto got more creative control that it began to flop so hard.

I don't know how many of you know the story around Sakura and the effort Kishimoto went through to try to connect readers with her. Apparently he read dozens of books on how to write teenage girls to make her more appealing but he just couldn't get the audience to connect with her. It makes sense though that maybe Kishimoto is just bad at writing and needed support of experienced editors to bonk him on the head and say "No. That's a dumb idea". I mean, it'd explain some of the insanity we see in Boruto...

I remember reading the basic outline and it was something like Naruto and Kakashi being a Zabuza and Haku-esque pair. The village is an actual remote location instead of a big fuck you city. Sasuke was Kishimoto ripping off his brother for a character and with the idea of the Uchiha being a police force specially trained against Ninja magic.

It's been done about 3 times. Boruto has a number of outfit changes before settling on his black coat-white shirt look. Which was honestly fine. It was a good design. Fit his character, was just edgy enough, easy to draw, and even stood out from everyone else. Sarada was the one who got all the shitty designs. Some were so bad the anime flat out ignored them and redesigned her themselves.

Yeah, that's pretty much exactly how Samurai 8 worked. The only difference was the addition of the foreign princess into the main party but she was critical to the MC by being a maiden that boosts his Courage Level and stats. Which really doesn't mean anything in the long run, it's a very bad and very dumb power system. It ran off of how courageous someone was but it was so arbitrary it might as well have said "Because plot". The chapter itself where we got the explanation had text blocks so long it'd make Hunter X Hunter blush from embarrassment.

The original Naruto story was about wizards and was clearly "Japanese Harry Potter". The publisher forced the change to ninjas to make it sell better to the Japanese market. But you can still see all of the influences on the story from Harry Potter.

About the antagonists...I don't know about that. Sure Madara was cool, but the others? Orochimaru was getting diminishing returns as time went on, but his ultimate death felt pretty anti-climatic. A lot of people don't like his attitude post revival, but I thought it was fine. Sidelining him was probably the right call.

Tobi/Obito was downright terrible on paper. Since Tobi's identity wasn't decided on until later, his character comes off as pretty inconsistent. He gets to do all this evil crap but once he's revealed as Obito, it becomes a much harder pill to swallow. Obito flip flops from destroying the world to becoming a good guy in less than a day. I also never liked the idea of Old Man Madara saving and grooming him either. It was too messy, and feels like this role could've and should've been played by Black Zetsu. At least it would give his ultimate betrayal a little credence. Once the mask comes off, and Juubito is defeated, Obito kind of just becomes a nuisance. He has like 4 or 5 fake out death moments before he finally kicks the bucket against Kaguya and even that is drawn out. Tobi really feels like a different person and I don't think it was impossible to really fix that if Kishimoto had the time to do so.

Honestly, I think the one that ages the best looking back on it is Danzo. He's such a bastard and a constant thorn in everyone's side throughout the series but usually in small ways. He stabs everyone in the back constantly. He has good motivation and is the product of Hiruzen being a weak leader incapable of making difficult decisions. His ultimate send-off is probably my favorite fight in the series post-Shippuden. Sometimes his hand gets overplayed, with him and Orochimaru being used interchangeably to wave away plot holes. At least he doesn't get replaced by an alien though, so that's something.

Eh, I don't know. I like Sakura. Yeah, she's absolutely useless but she at least TRIES. Ever since starting this thread, algorithm fed me Naruto clips on YouTube. You know how she got stuck to the tree during the fight with Gaara? Naruto froze up and she leapt in to save him and protect him and Sasuke, even though she knew she stood no chance. Same with Madara, she leapt in to act as a human shield to scout him out. At least she didn't make things WORSE like Sai often does. Plus she has the whole dinosaur story where she's actually not useless and gets to do some actual ninja stuff. I think she just gets a bad rep. It's not undeserved, but there are worse characters out there.

Funnily enough, he doesn't. He barely says two words to the woman after the Kazekage arc. I was fine with Shikamaru until Boruto. Shikamaru wasn't great during the war either but it was the end of the series so I gave some leniency because you never knew when his last moment would be. But in Boruto....Shikamaru is fucking intolerable. He's either dumber than he should be, or an unrelenting dick for no reason. Say what you want for the returning characters that appear in Boruto, most have their characters left intact. Not Shikamaru, he's butchered right from the start of his reintroduction. He's such an ass hole in every chapter he appears in, and it looks like Kishimoto/Ikemoto finally took notice. That's why I think him not taking the title of Hokage is a retcon. It's the only time he's ever shown and genuine kind of humanity. He's like a completely different person.

I remember better Hinata's last stand against Pain than any Sakura moment outside of her cutting her fucking hair and her being used as a puppet. Also, Hinata was never billed as one of the 3 main characters.

Could just be me ignoring her few meager moments because after Sasori most of it felt like a bigger and bigger torrent of haze and vomit and it gers hard to focus on specifics.

It's the only time he's ever shown and genuine kind of humanity. He's like a completely different person.

Which is extra sad seeing how absolutely fucked up he was after the save Sasuke arc ended and Chouji and Neji were almost dead (hot take, both should have died).

It's pretty blatant just from his name that he was always meant to be Obito, that's before getting into his mask conveniently matching Obito's injuries.

The Kakashi flashback arc that introduces Obito is between the end of Naruto and the start of Shippuden in the manga, so Obito existed well before Tobi showed up.
