evs is usually late and have big ego. But people get their books eventually and usually the art is top notch. There aren't that many comics with this much quality anymore. while isom rely heavily on ready made assets and basically minimal human touch.

Most people will live past EVS life span though, considering I've heard he's had a heart attack already and is fucking fat. The chance of him not being able to deliver CF3 cause of a health issue is now probably in the double digits so his art being better than isom is kind of not a big deal cause eric is still young and healthy and can always 'reboot'/refresh down the line like western comics like to do, switch artists, get writers, etc.

Evs main selling point is just himself, he has no successor. Even the late miura, easily a more prolific detail porn artist with a larger body of work has an assistant that can replicate his work 95% and is continuing it. At the rate evs is going, he'll be lucky to push out a cf4 and then it'll just be some dead guy's memorabilia. Great for speculators and that's it.

No way, rebooting is a violation of the Rippaverse Code of Ethics. It's one of the three defining features of Rippaverse Comics, along with 'not getting all racial in the comic' and 'not telling the customer to shut up'. Also to retcon stuff you need to establish definite facts about the characters and world to retcon, which seems to be a much bigger problem with July's comics than the need to retcon itself.

1.) Why give EVS an interest-free loan for three years without even knowing when you'll get your product when you can buy the same book from him on eBay when it's released or even below the campaign price when he has a sale to unload unsold inventory. Virtually every product he has sold via crowdfund is available on eBay right now for less than the original campaign price.

Yeah, but unlike other mangaka I think I read that miura still likes doing the majority of the work. I've seen some video interviews where some random mangaka eventually just focuses on the 'rough' stuff and heavy detail inking is all left to the assistants. Hope the berserk writer is healthy

Isom regrettably does that exact same thing in service of the dubious idea of a 'lived in universe' (like Jawbreakers before it did), but the idea is sound. Mainstream comic companies were very aware of the value of their copyrighted IPs and corporate dogma on things like 'brands', but after decades of 'continuity reboots', sloppy canon, completely degraded the less tangible value of their shared in-comic universe. The entire idea of a continuity is the carefully constructed illusion that someone can follow a 'character' from panel to panel, book to book, author to author, that exists independent of those things, and that those previous stories would enrich the experience of the reader as they lended additional context and perspective to the story they were currently reading (made up completely in the reader's imagination). It's what made passionate lifelong fans and customers of these companies in the first place. But if you erase a character's backstory so many times, replace the character with a race/gender swapped equivalent, disregard established characterization, reboot and remove the experiences that inform the reading of the text, the illusion is broken and the brain concludes that the character you're reading is not the same as the one you grew up reading, though they may look the same. There is no longer any emotional investment in what you read.

It's something that generates tremendous negative fan affect, and was a great motivator for the intial surge of hundreds of thousands of Marvel/DC fans that during the 2010s and its endless reboots and 'reimaginings' where CG coalesced out of. Amusingly the Comicsgate pros do not understand this and generally eschew canon as confining and restrictive to their delicate creator sensibilities, much like their mainstream counterparts do. Eric July is a fan and at least intuits on some level that canon is important just by going off of his lived experiences.
