Edit: People used to put work into movies, now we have dissapearing cels in a digital movie. Surely this has to be some kind of in production cut.

This movie wasn't even announced yet so it wouldn't be surprising to learn that the version leaked was still in some stage of post-production.

Not that the finished product will be good anyway, but I get the sense that the effects are only half-finished. Give them another year to keep plugging away at it, and it'd still be bad, but not embarrassingly awful

Damn, some tweets and stuff I saw online led me to believe this was coming real soon. It's really selling straight to TV vibes, it's kind of nostalgic and reminiscent of old Nickelodeon shows.
 
There's a real chance the leaked film isn't finished yet. However: It's sad to see my favorite SpongBoyMeBob character given such a lame film. Even if the production of the film isn't done yet, the actual plot isn't interesting and the humor is really lacking. They never used Sandy all that much, but her banter with Spongeboy and Pat Rick was gut-busting. She made a funny straight-man to a routine who, unlike Squidward, could respond both audibly and physically (her smashing Pat's head into his belly fat still gets a laugh out of me). A character whose best comedy trait is not taking anyone's nonsense, and ya take away most of the people she interacts with... stupid and lame.

Sandy got screwed over post-movie when they decided to double down on her being some kind of super intelligent scientist, ignoring every other part of her character and personality.

Saddest part is it ain’t even #1. TMNT and Paw Patrol outrank it when looking at the highest grossing IP list. I also believe Dora outranks as SpongeBob is #4 for Nickelodeon from what I remember.
