I am not worried about the Bossman. He is not some ordinary fragile mortal man, he is more akin to a mythic Greek hero or the wandering man of action from pulp magazines.

When compared with the immediate and adventurous life of the Bossman, the rats' own lives are exposed as naught but texture less and taste less gruel. What can the rats do but weep and gnash their incisors at Austin in rage and self loathing?
