Community Tard Baby General (includes brain dead kids) - Fundies and their genetic Fuckups; Parents of corpses in denial

Don't forget the mental retardation that comes with DS. Most will need care for their entire lives so I don't blame people for not wanting that for their child. Throw in the physical health issues they're known for and it genuinely bothers me that the media likes to portray DS like it's no big deal. It does a huge disservice to Downies, their families and parents facing that diagnosis for their child.

Additionally the risk of autism and profound autism at that are much higher. Mixing in all the other issues, it’s reasonable to not want your kid to go through all of that. When a child without DS or an IDD gets cancer it’s so hard and such a painful experience, but at least they understand the pain is hopefully going to make it better. With a child with DS or other IDD there is a high enough chance the child won’t understand why they are having to experience the pain and suffering and just seems like torture.

[/As an adoptive parent of two kids with moderate to severe IDD not DS though, I wish my kids wouldn’t have had to be born, knowing the experiences they have had of severe neglect and abuse they did, even though that means I wouldn’t have them. Anyone who has a child with or without disabilities who can’t care for their kid and keep them safe shouldn’t have a kid. ]

This makes me think - med folks, is autism a diagnosis of exclusion like fibromyalgia? I would have thought (as a notmed) that any autism-like qualities (assuming the main ones that get brought up by munchies/spoonies: bad social skills, inability to function as an adult, etc) would, in the case of someone with Down's, be attributed to the Down's, not a separate diagnosis. It sounds like with Down's, the individuals aren't necessarily on the spectrum as part of that diagnosis, so if they do display abnormal (considering the symptoms of Down's) behavior, it's something else?

In other words, is autism the diagnosis where "we can't pinpoint exactly why you have these mental issues, so you must be autistic?"

It wasn't always this way, but yeah, pretty much. To me, it speaks volumes that rates of intellectual disability/mental retardation diagnosis have declined at the same pace rates of autism diagnosis have increased.

It's easier for parents to accept little Johnny's autism than it is for them to accept his mental retardation.

Which is shitty, since people with mental retardation are still people and deserve to be treated with kindness and acceptance. I think lack of acceptance is part of why disabled kids are at higher risk of abuse.

My take as a doctor-diagnosed sperg is that autism is it's own thing, but it can be misdiagnosed. I can also see intentional misdiagnoses as a thing for reasons discussed.

We should be able to accept and have support for all developmentally disabled kids, not just the autists (and even then most of what exists is for autistic children, not adults) :(

cajun cousin fucking
Late, but I've heard an anecdote from a friend from that area (Carencro, about 40 mins from Iota) about their maternal aunt whose entire body slowly calcified(?) until she couldn't move and died when she was a teen in the 1920s or 30s I think it was - and yeah, lots of well known cousin marriage in the family. Not sure if it was a strange one off or directly related to the inbred genetics, but it sounds horrifying either way.

Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva aka stone man syndrome!

Means any soft tissue damage is repaired as bone. I knew I'd heard of it!

Richard Hanania points out Europe aborts Down Syndrome babies. Lyndon Perry, who just had a post mocking blacks with DS, is not amused. Archive.

Hanania has posted stuff like this before, and the pro life side was quick to call him a eugenicist murderer.

I don't think Lyndon Perry would've liked having a DS baby, even if he says online he adores the kid. Men hate seeing their offspring be defective. It's a primal thing.

The vast majority of downies seen in the media have mosaic downs. So some of their cells don’t have extra chromosomes. You can tell because they look halfway normal. They have less serious health problems, and the dementia doesn’t hit as hard. They have IQs in the high 70s. It has not been proven, but I’d wager they have lower rates of comorbid autism. They’re the ones with parents who say it’s no big deal.

This is not true. Mosaic downs accounts for about 1% of Down syndrome diagnoses. And there is no consistency on which of their cells are affected so it’s not as if they‘ve all got retardation lite. Someone with MDS can look normal and be retarded, they can look retarded and have a normal/low IQ, they can have the physical disabilities of down syndrome but not the mental, etc, etc

I’m talking about the ones that are on TV for doing inspiring stuff, not downers as a whole.

Plus trad/super conservative weirdos abuse their kids in general, but tend to be particularly bad towards disabled kids. Like these are the types who've straight up murdered kids before (wasn't that one family who had a bunch of adopted kids die, including a little girl w/downs who was forced to sit in bleach, a nutty fundie couple?).

Best case scenario fundies force their tards to marry as soon as legally possible and pop out kids for Jesus ala Pricillia Keller.

I'll take embryos being aborted over disabled kids being horrifically abused and murdered.

The media absolutely does focus on the highest functioning DSs whether they’re mosaic or not.

Whether women want to about after a DS diagnosis is their business and I don’t have a dog in this fight because i do not want kids. But many are now under the assumption that someone with DS will be able to live a relatively normal life with early intervention.

Early intervention helps but DS varies widely in how it affects the cells. Some are always going to be low functioning and unable to live independently no matter what resources they receive.

Googled it and holy shit. I couldn't imagine how terrifying it'd be to have that, especially as a child. From what I read it sounds like it's impossible to catch in utero too? Jesus.

I am pretty sure turning tissue into bone is some necromancy and I need to consult the superstitions thread on how to proceed. Jesus fucking Christ, indeed.

Despite my complex feelings about MAID, this is the kind of condition that keeps me overall in the camp that it should be on the table. It's like being a casualty of Medusa's curse. Fucking horrifying way to go.
