I have seen this now being asked/mentioned/debated by a few people online but I don't get it. Wednesday is sometimes different sportsball stuff. Isn't that on Mondays too? Why would a move from Wednesday to Monday help AEW? Do generally watch more people TV on Mondays than on Wednesdays?
 
I'm clearly no coked-up head of a company so what the fuck do I know, but I'd move a secondary show to be live on Monday free online and on cable, do some good-but-not-great matches to see how the reaction is, and slowly transition the Monday to be the main show rather than just dump the Wed slot that's already built up.

Also I heard it's everything _except_ Smackdown and NXT? if Smackdown stays on tv that would fit the usual MO for WWE

UK fags seems pretty happy about it because they had to pay for an expensive sports package to watch Raw over there, now they just need to worry about getting stabbed and having their kids groomed by brown Asians.

Right now the setup is Smackdown on USA Network, NXT on CW, and Raw on Netflix though the Netflix deal also seems to be broader like the deal they still have with Peacock. Monday is dead wrestling wise unless Smackdown takes over the slot on USA or keeps the Friday slot.

Yeah, I'm just noticing a lot of standalone streaming services are getting folded. Not a big deal.

I do think that Fight Pass is a bit more lucrative than anything on the WWE side (maybe), but I also know that Dana White has been trying to get all sorts of stupid shit off the ground and they might see this as an opportunity to have Netflix's expansive coffers to play with and try to make some shows or monetize things further. Worth considering given who owns WWE now.

That could be a good idea for more views and would force WBD to pay more for them

Every day of the week has a different demographic and viewership. That's why the low numbers for Rampage on Fridays and Collision on Saturdays is still viable. A change to Mondays on a non streaming service could get them closer or even surpass a million views weekly.

Anybody watched The Iron Claw yet? I just did last night and I enjoyed it a lot. Something tells me this wouldn't fall in the graces of non-wrestling fans, though, but the film itself was great and didn't treat the industry, its workers and fans as pure carny bullshit.

For the most part it is seen from Kevin's point of view, and it's certainly the right decision - He is, after all, the sole survivor of the Von Erich family, and he saw the rise and fall of both his family and the company his father built and he was supposed to follow through. Zac Efron really played well his worry about the "curse" and his fear of leaving his wife and kids alone because of it, complete with him refusing to christen his children with the Von Erich surname, the way he copes with the deaths of his brothers and the ever-increasing pressure over performing well in the ring... At least he has a happy ending.

Two things I loved were how it gave an air of drama and suspense to the matches themselves, even after it is made clear they are staged and pre-arranged, and how the intricacies of wrestling events were also treated - The openings, the pre-match title cards, the promo recordings, even the good times spent before and after a full night of matches at the Sportatorium, they were all treated well and captured the essence of early-to-mid-80's territorial wrestling and lifestyle.

I guess due to time constraints they adapted out Chris. I also expected they would give more time for the whole Lance Von Erich thing, but outside of a short and somewhat out-of-place sequence where he beats a tag team bout by himself without bothering to make a hot tag with Kevin, we saw nothing of him. Pity, but I guess MJF was too busy to film a more elaborate scene.

The most harrowing part to me was the subplot with Mike. Here we have a kid who had no business inside the squared circle and wanted so badly to follow his artistic inclinations, but due to Fritz's toxic influence (as well as David's untimely demise), he ended up following his brothers to the ring, only to get majorly fucked up in every possible way. No wonder he eventually killed himself. Things would have been even more wrenching if they did put in Chris, who was also not very built but in his eagerness to prove himself worthy to his family's legacy, he followed the same path as Mike to the grave. An ironic parallel that eventually overlaps.

The guy who played Ric Flair nailed the part; His voice sounded a bit off and he didn't quite look like Naitch (the guys who played Bruiser Brody and Harley Race, OTOH, looked pretty much exactly like them and played their parts damn well too), but everything else paid off bigly. The pre-match promo, the match itself against Kevin, everything that involved Flair was pure unadulterated kino.

As for the family parts, they were surprisingly well done and touching. You could feel the tension whenever Fritz appeared and you couldn't help but feel bad for poor Doris as she lost her kids one by one, and she was completely powerless against it all. At least until the very end.

Also, FUCK Fritz Von Erich, the macho stage dad who pressured his kids into following a career in wrestling and outright demanded them become World Champions because he himself could not be for a myriad of reasons - And constantly whined about it despite maintaining a "work hard and earn your spot" ethic. I mean, what kind of father tells his kids he has his own personal ranking of parental favoritism? Anyway, I don't doubt the movie exaggerated some parts, or even omitted others (IIRC he's the one who provided the boys with steroids) but what I saw just made me hate the guy for all he made his own sons go through. You can be well-meaning all you want, but your actions speak louder than your intentions, and Fritz gave his boys some hard shoves towards their demises.

Overall, this was great, at least from a rasslin fan. I give it 8/10, losing points only because of the missed opportunity with Chris and the rather tacky sequence where Kerry goes to Heaven.
