Nintendo Switch (Currently Plagued) - Here we shit post about the new Nintendo console, The Switch

I will give Smash this much credit at least..... it has characters and properties I like. The Nickelodeon thing might be a turn off simply because I don't like Nickelodeon all that much. Warner I'm not sure about, but even if it has vintage characters I'm sure it would have them in the form of some crap modern reinvention.
So you don't like Avatar TLA? But yea, Nick is shit.

Also, yea just having a crossover fighting game is a challenge, especially with licensed characters. In order to make a good licensed crossover fighting game, you need to actually understand what made fighting games tick.

Fate Samurai Remnant has now a demo available on all current platforms, including Switch which does look good albeit a bit choppy. The demo itself is rather short and can be completed within 45 minutes as it ends right after the fight against Jeanne Alter (Lancer) in the prologue.

I tried the demo on Steam Deck too and the framedrops happen at the same exact places as on Switch. High graphic settings don't change the visuals much either.

The port would benefit from the hardware boost of the Switch successor to help the performance but nothing unplayable imo.
I will wait for a sale on the JP eshop though, more likely when the season pass will have most, if not all, the DLC contents released.

That has been on my list for a while. If it's just choppy a little bit regardless of hardware, I can live with that, it looks great otherwise

You can soon play the plane arcade game under the crisp white sheets of your bed @Waifu Denier
Technically you could already do that on the Deck.

If it runs as well as it does on the Deck, there should be no problems. Pretty much perfect performance.

Going all the way back to the N64 original (I used to own Melee as well, but I skipped Brawl and 4) the games were always this weird mix of fun.... but also just kinda bad.
Who on Earth thought they were bad until Brawl?

I really wish there was an option to control the game with the D-pad. Full stop, any game where you move entirely on a 2D plane has no reason to force you to use the analog stick, ever.
I agree with this. Tilt attacks could be available on other buttons too.

I also have an issue of constantly facing the wrong way because a lot of times its hard to even see my own character or tell what direction they're facing.
I have only ever had this issue in Ultimate, to the degree that I think it must be the game or controller's fault.

Back to the controls, its stupid that there's things like "tilt attacks"--in the heat of battle who the fuck is gonna have that kind of fine-tuned self control? Do they seriously expect every player to be a taoist sage or something? And it leads to a lot of instances where, for example, I'm trying to do Megaman's uppercut thing but I end up getting that move where he holds electric spikes over his head.
They expect people to not care much and enjoy a casual, simple control scheme. I think they should allow controller customization by now though, they know people don't just play it casually, to the degree they've even pandered to this audience themselves by continuing to sell GC controllers.

Ignoring how borderline unplayable Smash would feel with a d-pad (see: Brawl), you can set the right stick to be tilt attacks.
... the problem is this does not prevent you from doing tilt attacks with the left stick without intending to, so I'm not sure why people keep thinking this solves that problem.

Saw this on Twitter. Barring any upcoming directs, this is Nintendo's first party output for the first part of 2024. I can't really see any other big titles being revealed before the Switch 2 drops unless those rumours of Prime 2&3 Remastered are true.

A super obscure youtube channel I have been subscribed to for a long time managed to out-do my knowledge on obscure Japanese games:

This game looks really cool and I'm going to pick up a JP physical but hopefully I could see Nintendo opting to localize it, the game suits their style well.

To be honest, the original Nintendo Switch kind of caught me off guard, as I had largely written off Nintendo since the Wii U was announced. It wasn't enough to get me to buy a Switch but I did purchase a 3DS.

I'm not convinced the Switch 2 will be a hit without a major game that carries the platform. Looking back at the Switch legacy, beyond the ocean of ports, the only real standouts are The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and its sequel.

The rest of the bunch is a collection of odds and ends. Super Mario Odyssey just doesn't even have the same impact of even Super Mario Galaxy, Pokémon continued to be a disappointment, Nintendo Labo was a silly gimmick, there was the requisite Super Smash Bros. sequel, there was the requisite Animal Crossing sequel (which did very well partly due to timing), and the first real outing for Samus Aran in a long time.

Ace Combat 7 is apparently getting a Switch port, as a Deluxe Edition, to be released this year (Video went private but the date was originally set for July 11)

Edit: Trailer is up

Edit 2: Video comparison between PS4 & Switch
Holy crap!! I'm shocked they're even releasing this for Switch. This is the first Ace Combat game to come out on a Nintendo home console, and only the third to release on a Nintendo console period (after Ace Combat Advance, but nobody remembers that one, and Assault Horizon Legacy/3D: Cross Rumble). Its also the first mainline numbered Ace Combat release on a Nintendo console, rather than a side story/spinoff or remake.

I think with the success of Prime Remastered, they're more likely to announce Prime 2 remastered ahead of time to soak up that pre-order hype. Fall this year maybe?

The Switch easily has the most varied line up of games of the modern consoles. As a former Sony fan, the Switch has completely won me over on its library. I've said it before, but the Switch is the modern PS2. It's got the old style, weird shit that other consoles just don't have any more.

Being able to do different attacks depending on how quickly you move the stick was one of the driving forces behind Smash’s conception, and removing that would defeat the purpose. Have you considered the possibility that you might just not be cut out for platform fighters?
