That would drive me absolutely crazy and I think is the reason why Robyn has become so delusional. She'd rather pretend Luna is just another kid with likes and dislikes and sass, rather than face the truth she's a tater on the brink of death. Not wishing to speak up for Robyn here in any way, but there is also the mental load of having a nearly-dead potato around. Even if you're not doing much more than a sponge bath, setting up a feed and putting her chair somewhere the damn dog can't get to and chew on her, you've still got the knowledge that your potato genuinely might stop breathing at any second weighing you down for the other 23 hours of the day.
I think Glenn, despite his flaws, sees things for what they are and is a dreading a future with Luna if she continues to live. He knows his wife will never leave the house, everything will always revolve around Luna and he'll have to be the sole provider for several years, if not decades to come. He has distanced himself from his daughter and quietly accepted the grim reality. You can even see it in his body language like that picture Robyn took of them having lunch together.
That shunt was just another very bad decision it seems. Sad.
