If you've ever seen 3rd Rock from the Sun, DSP is basically one of the aliens, only more retarded and even less able to understand how humans work, his attempts at behaving like a human being are even more fake and transparently so than that old show, it's part of what makes him so fun to watch.

My 2 cents about the "this story is literally me" arc. Yes, it's part his narcissism that makes him act like this, but another huge contributing factor is his hermit lifestyle. He thinks the things that happened in his life are somehow exceptional, because he doesn't interact with other people. He's the kind of person who thinks having to pay bills on time is a huge, mature-style, burden and effort, so if he'd see a story of someone struggling with bills he immediately forms a connection. Same deal when it comes to "being lied about online" (except what's being told about DSP is mostly true).

He's incapable of reflecting on his life and thinking 'hmm, maybe other people get through these same things without making a whole big drama about it, crying to the internet and begging for money?'. He can't realize that his inability to handle and cope with these mundane things ("oh no, someone is making fun of me on the internet"), is what makes them exceptional.

His psychology is really interesting.

I'm glad that the Yasnooza games are continuing the tradition of doing unintentional detracting in their intro chapters. Making him think that they based the story around him is even funnier than the intro in Lost Judgment where Yagami was chasing down a gambling addict and where two thugs were bitching about a gacha machine.

What makes a 40-something year old man feel the need to identify with a video game character? I think that's normal for teenagers, but I don't think I've ever seen another adult do the whole "omfg he's literally meee" thing.

Those two things aren't the same. Probably all story focused video games expect you to identify with the protagonist, that's kinda a huge requirement for any type of immersive fiction. But DSP has sociopathic tendencies, so he has a hard time putting himself into another person's shoes. He puts the character in his shoes instead.

Autistic rundown of last night's Tekken stream:

• Phil's preamble includes hot topics of illegitimate memberships and how the new Yakuza game is based on his life.
• Makes $160 before opening the game
• Is going to wear the glasses but can't put on a hat or vest for fear of "Overheating"
• Phil admits he isn't as good at Tekken as Street fighter but has been watching gameplay and could "very well" win every match tonight depending on the matchmaking as he has been playing for 20+ years.
• Loses his second set online
• Phil has such little control over his trotters and is mashing his stick so hard he accidentally enables the simplified control scheme. Despite the gigantic pop up covering a quarter of the screen and the fact that all of his buttons are now doing completely different moves he doesn't realize and turn it off for almost an entire 2 rounds
• Today's "not the day" to come to the stream and talk to Phil, so if you address him in the chat prepare to be ignored.
• Phil demonstrates his Tekken prowess in the training mode between games by hitting a whopping 40 damage juggle combo. "I know cahmbos". For reference even the most basic, noob friendly combos on Tekken will do upwards of 50 damage.
• Phil's astonishing lack of any fighting game knowledge despite dedicating most of his formative years to them is on show. Punish and Counter hit are thrown out by him almost completely interchangeably and arbitrarily. The entirely nebulous term "Priority" is flowing freely.
• Phil complains that certain characters are just faster than his. Someone in the chat offers him the genuinely good advice that everyone in the game's fastest move is a jab at 10 frames. Phil uses this opportunity to call them out for being wrong and Pigsplains that Paul's DF+2 launcher is an 8 frame move. This is completely wrong and can easily be proven just by turning on the frame data in the training mode.
• Phil spends most of the night running down launch weekend noobs with throws

To add some context to this, there is a part where a group of thugs confront Ichiban and show him a video of a vtuber talking about Ichiban mentioning he is a former Yakuza and that he works at Hello Work, Dave considers this slander even though it is 100% fact.

I don't think Dave knows what slander is.
