Warhammer 40k

Question: I would like to learn the lore of AOS but I'm not sure where to start: What book/book series should I go to first?

For context, I know nothing and have not been interested in anything GW has made, ever. Fantasy or 40K or anything: but my friends like it, they have been collecting ever since they were kids and my husband recently bought a whole BUNCH of AOS miniatures, including a whole army of Stormcast for me to play.

I built them and am getting into painting them, but I feel like it's a shame to not know anything about the universe this game's set in. Now with old world showing up I'm curious if I can possibly catch up on stuff? Has anyone got any suggestion or what book I ought read? Or, has anyone got non-obnoxious breakdown channels on YouTube? I tried searching for it and I think, maybe the channels that had readings of the lore got dmca'd?

Thanks guys

The ultimate monkey paw for the old world would be asking for a new Felix model and getting Ulrika because one is more likely to be alive in AoS and GW can double dip by make one model with a few tiny variations and selling them both at full price.
Considering Gotrek is out and about in AoS Felix is pretty much a given. And then you add Ulrika for a fucked-up love triangle where he has to choose between his bromance with Gotrek or any possible romance with Ulrika.

How?
Correct me if I'm wrong but the most likely way for Felix to come back is as a stormcast (and that comes with a few issues in itself) but to become one don't you need some sort of fame from the old world and unfortunately for Felix his brother started haphazardly publishing his journals so in universe there considered trashy fantasy novels and him a 3rd rate author.

Plus I know a few people who'd be pissed if they brought felix back before "confirming" Karl Franz as the Celestant Prime.

How much does it cost to do this shit?
To make a fan trailer or play the tabletop game?

I can only speak for the game. You can get started with Combat patrol, but you will eventually want to own enough models to have multiple options for building a 2000 point list. Entry level is $150 and you can go up into the thousands, depending on what you want to do.

If you wanna go the DIY angle, you can buy a 3d printer and enough resin to print every model in a faction for maybe $200. After that, it costs you about $50 to print another entire faction. There is a skill curve, though.

No clue how, but I'm sure GeeDubs could come up with some asspull. And if he is a memory-less Stormcast I'd hate to be in Sigmar's shoes when Gotrek comes calling.

TBH completely gutting all of the old fan favorites and replacing them with NEW TOTALLY UNIQUE STORMCASTS was probably not GW's smartest move there. I don't think people have been complaining nearly as much if they had just taken guys like Gelt and Franz and given them Stormcast models.

EDIT: I forgot to mention this but fucking Thanquol of all epic failures somehow made it to Age of Sigmar alive and hopping mad that Gotrek is around to ruin his plans YET AGAIN. Not even the end of the world has provided him any respite. So yeah, Felix is pretty much mandatory.

Felix might be dead, but that was done through some shady guy channeling his spirit, so who knows, he might have been teleported/captured. Also Ulrika is super dead. The book actually had pretty great scene with Gotrek speaking with the ghost of Snorri.

They kinda had to kill the humans due to them dying of old age otherwise. Plus Thanquol surviving is fucking hilarious.

Fair point, and if Felix comes back he might actually get to follow through on his revenge against Thanquol since correct me if I'm wrong but after he kills Felix's father and they both swear the oath, neither of them see hide nor hair of the rat for the rest of the series and it's only stomping around the new world for a bit that Gotrek found he was still alive.

Isn't the problem with Ulrikia that it was never confirmed if she died human or a vampire and unclear if Nagash has authority over her soul and can bring her back because Nagash is an asshole and no self proclaimed servant of his can enjoy a peaceful afterlife.

Felix had already lived to be in his late 80's or something while still being physically young all the way into the End Times thanks to reasons. Part some weird witch spell, part the Axe of Grimnir's potency bleeding over into Felix. No reason he couldn't pop back out in AoS young and virile again. Shit, the Ancestor Gods fucking favored him. Managed to pick up and toss a hammer belonging to one of them and only get his palm burned. And that was early in the series before he really started tearing things up.

According to 2d4Chan Gotrek is able to restore the memories of fucked-up Stormcasts just by being near them, so no reason he couldn't be near one who suddenly remembers his oath and tells Sigmar and the other Stormcasts to shove it since he's got an oath to uphold older than the one he made to Sigmar. "Na man, I swore a blood oath with Gotrek to travel with him to record his doom, and he still hasn't met it, even after the end of reality."

That is of course we just don't have Felix appearing out of thin air 100% young again and deciding to look for Gotrek since he'd know damn well that with Gotrek's terrible luck not even the end of all things would be enough to give him the doom he was seeking.

Ulrika was a terrible fucking vampire who was constantly fucking up the attempts of her fellow vampires to take over the realms of man. I doubt Nagash would even want her considering that whole "I hate vampires because they're a bunch of dickbag assholes and I'm only a vampire in the first place because some dickbag asshole vampire kidnapped me to turn me into his immortal waifu" thing she has going on.

Plus like any good Kislevite she's extremely pragmatic and believes that shooting problems in the head is an excellent way of solving them. Not exactly your typical vampire behavior on top of the above-mentioned hatred for her fellow kind.
