Has anyone here listened to any of Sam's recent (2023-24) comedy sketches? Are they any good? I doubt they are because I don't hear much about them.
I listened to the whole Buffalo thing that was replied to you, and it was pretty damn bad, no wonder he's trying to wipe it from the net.
I feel like PGL is actually pretty good, maybe because of Nick+crew(Charls sucks), but also just because they can trim the bad stuff and they sorta have a script to go off of(doc with links+ideas). Standup, not so much, it's like actually being there with him, and feeling how awkward everything is, and feels like the "never meet your heroes" thing. Somebody's internet persona is rarely how they are irl, and this seems to show.
Just look at all standup ever, it pales in comparison to The Office or Always Sunny, and at best there's like a minute of clips from a huge session that's actually good, that're reused at each venue or event until it no longer has impact. Planning and writing make shit that hits hardest, and you can figure shit out before you make it public for all to see. The reason those shows did well is because all the people had at least a few funny things to offer, and even the same goes for WP1 with Sam, Nick, and Charls all contributing to make good stuff. Doing everything by yourself when it comes to stuff like this is limiting, and probably why standup queers have ghost writers.
If you've watched a lot of the PGLs and stream highlights, you've probably seen all of the standup stuff, but it's surprisingly BETTER when it's months or years fresher. I guess there's only so many funny ideas one can have, and you sorta fall back on "ol reliables".
With all this I'm kinda leaning off of Scuffed and live Sam as I feel that I've heard what they currently have to offer, and new funny stuff is fewer and farther between for me. The tank is still good because it's new people except for motherfucking fatty, so a lot of it still feels unique even if the bit has been done before, because of fresh people reacting. Obviously FT fans being contestants fucked up a lot of the "new" feelings, but even then there was still good stuff.
I'll still watch highlights/edited stuff of the normal streams as I'm sure there's still gonna be funny stuff, but my time is too valuable to sift through 3 hours of muck and boring houses or interrupting Chris just for a gold 3 minute chimp out nugget. I've got The Great War to watch after all.
I'm hyped for WP2, but the standup thing really just feels like a way to rebuild popularity, hype WP2, and make more easy money. It'll likely all be funneled into WP3, Joyride, and more gay cars. I feel like I've even heard Sam say that a few times, that it's all a means to "greater shit".
