I've always considered it likely Torswats was underage. The pricing is so ridiculous only a child would think that's appropriate. The actions so brazen that only a child would think he won't be punished.

I think, given the sheer scale of fake swatting calls this prick (or his group) have made it would be perfectly appropriate for the judge to do the same thing they did to Nicholas Cruz where they both slap him with a multi-million dollar fine and invoke the Son of Sam law ontop of the 12,000 year term plus 3 consecutive life sentences- that way he never even enjoys the absolute necessity canteen is in the clink as his books are constantly garnished so that he never enjoys a penny.
At the very least threatening the kid with this skyrockets the chances he'll squeal on the others in the group.

Age probably really is part of it. That age you think you're a genius and everyone else is an idiot. You also don't think of the consequences your actions might have. The whole method reeks of somebody who wasn't thinking too much about securing all his bases. I also think it's unlikely he did all of this alone and I'm sure he'll sing. (and seeing the modus operandi I doubt these people have amazing opsec, as in, not knowing too much of each other in case somebody gets arrested, if they're all american or from countries with extradition agreements of course is another question)
I'm not sure how I feel about throwing the book at a seventeen year old because seventeen year olds are fucking retarded, then again this is such sociopathic behavior, there was such an absolute lack of regard and he's old enough to know better, I can't imagine him ever becoming a non-destructive element in society. It's not even somebody getting shot by trigger-happy police (which happens a lot less often than the media suggests, after all you don't hear about all the incidents where the police doesn't shoot anybody) it's also that these emergency services which are often spread very thin to begin with not being available to actual emergencies because they were tied up in this boy's bullshit. There's a good chance people died or ended up with a much worse quality of life indirectly because of this. Also because of the sheer scale and recklessness the social contract kinda demands throwing the book at him. Nothing of value would be lost, at any rate.

While that is true I think that, should he be on the hook for all of the Torswats shit, it's probably one of the more appropriate cases for it. Naturally we don't know every single detail so he could be taking a massive fall here for the others. Regardless though I think he's probably going to be designated for being charged as an adult. I think what will piss off the law more for cases like this is that they cover their tracks enough to take up a lot of resources in investigation. If he does get off light he is going to be squealing like a piggy. If he can't produce multiple arrests I think he may get shafted hard for this.

maybe I'm retarded but this seems like a premature victory lap to me. sure maybe this guy was involved with torswats somehow but the fact that they poached him by capturing his IP over a shitty P2P chat program is a screaming red flag to me. this dude is allegedly responsible for dozens of SWATTings. it took the feds this long to nab him, but it was that easy? I'm not gonna assume he's some kind of opsec genius and the 17-year-old thing does maybe explain some of torswats' online behavior. but it seems equally likely to me that they simply targeted the dumbest member of a larger group so they could put a head on the wall and call it a day. today's feds are not generally known for their competency or diligence, only the sophistication of their tools.

Very convenient too that the supposed suspect is a minor and so they can’t give out details. Not to mention that the “PI” claiming this scalp seems to have zero online footprint and his Twitter account (opened relatively recently) started with tweets that read like AI-generated boomer shit.
No one seems to have heard of this guy until now, and as soon as people started pointing that out, someone came out of the woodwork to nonchalantly announce they’d been working with him for a year.
