For a cloak-and-dagger legal affair between a politician and a pederast multimillionaire, this is pennies on the dollar. Both of these cases have young men accused, who clearly have the whys and wherefores to know better. I reckon the legal system will play comparable softball with Grant.
If for some reason, the book was really thrown at him, it'd probably be very easy to twist it as an act of homophobia against an eccentric old man, which has its own consequences for the judge and Shawn's political career.

Too be fair to Shawn I do believe Shawn is openly gay and he belongs to a faction of the Conservative Party that is morso libertarian than hardline social conservative, so he's not as hypocritical as the Mattison Cawthorn, Nick Fuentes, or that one conservative politician in Hungary that got caught in a gay orgy. That being said any serious political party is going to expel you for that, regardless of what ideology they believe in because it looks extremely unprofessional and sleazy. It's still hilarious though.

I don't mean to get into political spergery territory here but progressive conservatism is considered an actual political philosophy but it means different things depending on the time period and country. In modern Canadian politics it tends to mean a combination of fiscal conservatism with more socially moderate or liberal social policies. I guess blue dog democrat or moderate Republican would be the current equivalent in the states.

They say they are "conservative" but then end up being libertarian on social issues or they claim that they are "willing to work across the isle" on fiscal issues. So they get elected by conservative voters, but then once in office their actions end up being the opposite of what the people who voted for them wanted.

And in your most extreme circumstances, it turns out that your "conservative" politician has multiple DUI convictions, is secretly gay and has been accepting bribes from his insane older uncle to participate in disturbing amateur pornography which is vaguely connected to an internet meme about homosexual cowboys. But apparently that's just another type of being "conservative" you see...

But anyway, I hope something heavy falls on all these people. A box filled with doorknobs maybe. Purely by coincidence of course.

I mean I don't really consider myself a conservative so I don't really care about what's true conservatism and what's cuckservatism. I was just trying to define it within the context of Canadian politics. I do say I think it is conservative in a sense because it seems to be very good for conserving the neoliberal status quo.
