EU EU calls for 'gendered language' to be banned, with phrases such as 'no man's land' or 'Joe Public' axed - and 'king and queen' phrased 'queen and king' to put the female first

The EU has called for 'gendered language' such as 'no man's land' and 'Joe Public' to be axed.

A 61-page document advises policymakers, legislators and the media to revise the order of common phrases such as 'King and Queen' or 'brother and sister' in which the male comes first.

It suggests to 'try swapping the order of these phrases sometimes'.

Bureaucrats say 'Joe Public' should be replaced with 'average citizen' and 'no man's land' should be substituted with 'unclaimed territory'.

Tory MP Nick Fletcher has called the guidelines 'nonsense' and argued that the EU had 'far more serious issues' that it should be concerned about.

The 'Toolkit on Gender-sensitive Communication' document compiled by the The European Institute for Gender Equality highlights language that needs to be changed and notes alternatives.

It also notes that terms such as 'shrill' and 'pushy' have 'strong connotations that are strongly associated with only women' and should be replaced with 'high-pitched' and 'assertive' respectively.

It says that 'virile', considered 'strongly associated with only men', should be substituted with 'strong or energetic'.

The famous Star Trek line, 'To boldly go where no man has gone before', is noted in the bundle as an example for which 'women may be subject to invisibility or omission'.

Don Valley MP Nick Fletcher told The Telegraph: 'I think it's nonsense, especially when there's far more serious issues going on at the moment that we need to be concerned about.

'The EU needs to take a good hard look at themselves and think about what other problems are going on in the world at the moment.'

He added: 'We've got wars being waged, an energy crisis and a lot of countries are dealing with the same kind of problems that we are in the UK.

'Things like this are a waste of our time.'

Former Tory MP Ann Widdecombe told The Sun: 'It's ridiculous.'

Nigel Mills, Conservative MP for Amber Valley, told the newspaper: 'This is utter madness. It's an attack on the English language.'

Even though Britain officially left the EU in January 2020, English is still its official language.

No mans land is not unclaimed territory. Its literally disputed territory claimed by both sides
My understanding of the term comes from World War 1, where "No Man's Land" was the area between the trenches occupied by opposing sides, and trying to cross that area would result in you getting quickly killed by machine gun fire. The term "No Man's Land" was a warning, telling you, "If you go here, you will die."

The term "unclaimed territory" makes it sound like the area's up for grabs, which is not what is intended by the term. This is the type of confused, robotic bullshit George Carlin used to rant about.

How's is putting women first instead of men not sexist?

this is the question men have been asking feminist since feminism started, to this day they still havent come up with a good answer.

I don't think your Islamic imports are gonna play along with this. Never thought I get to see the day where a Tumblrite gets wrekt by a goatfucker.

yeah, but like always they will just look the other way when a muzzie does it and instead find some way to blame it on evil white conservative men.

I can't believe they cut down two trees to have enough paper to write this bullshit

Why hasn’t the world collectively gotten together to tell these people to just shut the fuck up? Why does queen have to go before king when these people act like defining womanhood is some elusive concept that only the privileged few can grasp?
That kind of talk is a great way to end up like the Nordstream Pipeline.

IDK, maybe its because women tend to be shrill and pushy instead of merely high-pitched or assertive?
Someone tell me how to say "average citizen" in Spanish or Portuguese or Italian without using gender. The largest English-speaking country in the EU is Ireland, maybe they should make it a little less obvious how badly they want to suck up to American progressives.
English is the primary language of the EU. The other choices were French, German, and Latin. Nobody really wants to learn Latin, and the only people in Europe who like the French and the Germans are the French and Germans themselves. That leaves the world's unofficial second language, English, as the only realistic option.

This kind of stuff needs to become illegal, a Gender Protection bill or something that cements traditional gendered language as the standard in society, like government forms and such.

The fact that society is so fucked that you need to write "We need to protect gendered language" and it's a valid argument shows these fuckers in power need to fuck off forever

these arnt even accurate substitutes.

shrill and high-pitched dont necessarily mean the same thing. nor does pushy and assertive.
and there is more meaning to virile than being strong or energetic.

it's taking these words and making them less descriptive.
The goal of newspeak is to suppress thought, not to facilitate it. You don't need to be descriptive to do your job and consume product.
