Fast forward 4 years, and you can see why the evil project manager suits are needed in comics to reign in the batshit creatives. A total mess and complete collapse in ideals. Scant few decent campaigns and even fewer timely fulfillments (Nolan, Davis, and…?) Endless bullshit, e-drama, fly-by-night flavours of the month and worst if all, in EVS they backed a de facto leader whose narcissism and naive judgement of character have led to what could have been a promising movement into a septic tank filled to the brim with faeces like Mandy Summers, Wenger and Narwhal’s ‘499’.

I often wonder what guys like Nolan and Tucci really think of all this. Even these fellas must be utterly sick of EVS by now. Someone a few pages ago said the money isn’t there to sustain multiple £100k+ campaigns and this really is apparent. EVS manoeuvred himself to the top of the cash pyramid; maybe the PTP-backed exodus aren’t as dumb as billed and can also see that the money is drying up - what’s left is being leeched by EVS’ paypigs ever-more rapidly.

The major change that's happened between 2020 and 2024 is simply the gradual decline of overall funds. If the gains and losses in CG were distributed uniformly it would be different, but Comicsgate's economy works on an 80-20 pareto distribution where the top 20% generate 80% of the funds and likewise the lower 80% of creators must get by with only 20% spread out across them. In the heady lockdown days of 2020 the threshhold of funds raised between top 20% and lower 80% was $50,600; meaning that even someone only getting a piece of that 20% could eke out a business. At some point in 2023 though the threshold had declined to $23,600, which means after accounting for shipping and printing that even 'elite' campaigns could run at a loss. The lower 80% have seen this and acted accordingly, by no longer launching campaigns.

I wrote about it back in September, predicting "since one of the main tenets of Comicsgate is that bowing to the woke is not necessary because one could go independent with the help of 'da movement', the debunking of this claim presages a deep reduction of and shift in the motivations of the people willing to remain a part of it". I didn't expect it all to happen so soon, or all at once for that matter.

Parnell trying to get CG into comic conventions should be understood in part as a desperate act for new markets outside the interference of SJWs or Malin. It was an act which bewildered Frog as he remembers the con crawl as starving artists grasping for scraps, not really grasping that most of the CG rank and file in the year of 2023, juicy delicious scraps were but a dream. Tampa Bay Comic Con was a mixed success. As a business venture it was reportedly a large failure on account of the general quality and price of low-level CG goods compared to mainstream fare along with PTP entrusting much of the legwork to "voice of the fans" Mr Biggons, who gave zero thought towards selecting a venue where prospective customers or comic fans were in lieu of selecting the place best situated to his favorite bars and sex clubs to hang out and maybe wifeswap with e-celebs with.

As a social event however TBCC was an unqualified success, with a bunch of shut-ins bonding and cementing something resembling actual friendships. This created its own problems though that Patrick was unready to deal with. Namely the creation of a new social hierarchy that the CG Godfather was not a part of. At first he tried to only excommunicate PTP like he did with Ro and Pan, but things had changed since 2020 - there was no more money to command loyalty with - and it became more of a "either die on your feet or die on your knees" situation for the rank and file CGer. Frog, who was very unconcerned with everything that was happening up until this point, was suddenly faced with the choice of either being on the outside of a CG in-group looking in, or having to join in himself, waste time and money flying around, and possibly also participate in weird sex stuff with Biggons. Frog, with a heavy heart I like to imagine, chose a third option and declared Exterminatus on the CG Community.

Facing the masses in the first Dungeoneers show trial stream, Frog declared a bold new theory of CG which stated that the idea of a 'CG community' no longer exists and that each Comicsgater had their own individual serfdom fandom, sovereign to themselves. With that he departed to fight all of grifttube on Trashcast, leaving the irradiated ruins that was the Comicsgate kingdom for the cockroaches and DarkGift. The end.

I too like Renie as much as the next guy; she has a bubbly personality, can manage herself in front of a camera, looks nice, has some experience with the big two publishers and virtually alone among the CG "dames", she really can draw.

Having said that...

She joined at a time where the CG lore had piled high enough so that she just had to know what she was really getting into. By then Zack was already quite aloof from FROG's circle.... the nasty rifts with Smiller, WC, WCBS+broad and more had already taken place. Its equally that they are running out of anything to talk about on Kings. There isn't much of anything in the pipeline anymore. They just talk about the same sad series of low-earning books every week, play the same trailers and say the same things. 6,700 people allegedly watched the show tonight and the books they promote have total backers usually in the hundreds. As with Ethan's shows and the JACK show, whatever reason people have for watching, it really isn't anything to do with buying or supporting comic books.

Way, WAY back in early 2020 I saw him on Az-holes channel for a live chat (long before Az fell out with CG) and when I learned of Black Flag I was really, really close to backing that campaign - thank God I didn’t. I reckon his prolonged absence from CG Kings is more to do with him ducking his backers than anything else. What a fucking fraud.

The only CGer who I would think of backing is Shane Davis. Say what you like about him but the art is good and the work ethic is there.

I’d back Aaron Lopresti again. I like his artstyle and his books have always come on time.

The callouts to Shad, Razorfist and the endless obsession with ‘critiquing’ Eric July - plus the painfully distended diatribe on ‘Teh Dungeoneersh’. More intelligent - and far more informed minds than mine - can and have provided the requisite insight but it is abundantly clear to everyone: Ethan is truly off the wagon now as a creator and artist. The inertia will keep him on that rapidly collapsing pedestal for only a few months at best unless he pulls himself together and gives his walrus-like head a serious fucking wobble.

Oh, and as an unpopular Brit myself, I would like to say that Captain Chokeout deserves to die a truly painful death. The vapid cunt is truly insufferable - who tries to be a fucking alpha male ‘playa’ in a nerd-based movement like Comicsgate, for fuck sake?
