The starting logic behind the massive open-borders push is simple enough - as a party, the Dems have pushed for mass legalization. The hope was that they'd allow massive numbers into the border states (which are mostly Red), and rely on controlled opposition (their pet RINOs) to ensure nothing gets done about it. That's why they went fucking nuclear trying to secure influence in the border states (such as Arizona). The idea is that this gets them blue votes in the short term, and in the longer term, they slowly turn the rest of the border states more purple.

The problem they've run into is that this just isn't working. Established immigrant families pivot to the right hard, and when they do, they're the ones most likely to call for shutting down the border, since they don't want to see their hard-won gains lost for the sake of the Dems. As a result, instead of getting the infinitely growing majority they wanted, they wound up with contested seats and non-RINOs that are now running on dedicated opposition to the plan.

At this point, if the flow of Migrants allowed into the US slows - not even stops, slows - the previously-arrived immigrants quickly will establish and continue the rightward shift, because they will vote in their own self-interest. The only way right now they have a political future of any kind in the border states is essentially opening the valves to full and allowing them in bulk for the foreseeable future - if they don't, they're fucking done in the American south.

This is also the big reason they hate Trump so much - his win, pretty much exclusively running on closing the border, essentially fucked their entire timetable for four years, and while that wasn't very long from the standpoint of us shitposting retards on the internet, it's a fucking half-decade setback to the people who were fucking relying on there being infinite immigration to shore up the plan.

My late grandfather watched MSNBC every day and was a Democratic Party sycophant literally until the day he died (was watching MSNBC in his hospital bed, from what I hear) despite claiming to be an independent (he almost exclusively supported and voted for Democrat politicians). To add insult to injury, he hated the concept of the Second Amendment and was annoyed that a neighbor put an American flag up on their property despite them both being veterans. He was the very definition of an NPC stereotype. My grandmother still watches MSNBC, and I have to tiptoe around her when talking because of how ugly it can get very quickly. I am the only right wing person in my paternal family with my last name, and all of these relatives had careers and good jobs.

So don't try telling me "established immigrant families" are against more migrants coming in because they aren't.

Jaimas is being loose with his wording when he says immigrants. To be fair, so was I. The majority of immigrants (though far from all) crossing the southern border are from Central America which tends to have very strong catholic tendencies and this group specifically trends right. Eastern Europe tends to go all sorts of ways, especially if they hold any fondness for the idealized version of the USSR.

There's already been cases of companies going bankrupt or deciding to no longer support the prosthetic.

I can believe it, and that's why I'm confident it'll actually see legislation - This is one of those rare universally bipartisan things. Lefties will absolutely riot over the idea of companies stealing peoples literal limbs, and the right wing honestly more or less agrees entirely, just perhaps being more motivated by self independence and autonomy for these people as opposed to purely ethical arguments. Even Big Pharma isn't going to get too much into this with their meat hooks - too far outside their domain and concerns, nothing applied there will really impact their actual permanent money makers.

That being said, legislation is slow, and I do believe we're gonna have to see a 'widespread' instance of this happening to really draw attention and make a news cycle before action happens.
