I don't think it's a fed op, at least not directly. The Glownigger style would have been to go for something like a very public attack or terror incident, with a bombing or mass shooting. This looks more like a honest to God schizo acting out and being insane.

I think part of the issue is that whatever techniques they use can't fine-grain the action taken by the target, because the target is always unhinged to begin with and it has to be done with some distance involved so that the coaching and manipulation isn't immediately evident. They may have wanted him to target a certain bunch of civilians or a person of interest, but simply the guy's Daddy issues were larger than his rage against perceived political enemies, his former employers, or society as a whole. In the end they have a result that isn't what they wanted, but they'll try to run with it as far as they can.

Taking this in face value, how do people get these interviews set up and do they know they're being recorded? With that, why do they continue to do it? It seems too good to be true; like a villain revealing his plans out in the open from one of those movies. Unless they are whistleblowers or try to play a "fake." I don't know.
