In order to get some variety going I want to recap something from several pages ago, when someone shared a video made by Just Stop about rape fetishism. If you don't know Braxton, you basically need to know two things about him: he is quite young, as in he's in his early 20s and has been doing YouTube for a while, and he inserted himself in a situation he had no business being in when he made a video on LS Mark's then wife-to-be cheating despite not knowing Mark that well. And yet he might be the most functional person in his corner of the Internet.
He made his last video on HH and specifically on how Angel's rape is portrayed, not because he has anything of note to say but because his fans on Xitter called him names because he didn't join the memetrain of Viv is a disgusting fujo. You can tell that the affair stroke a nerve in him because he quotes sexual assault survivors many times just to say that the scenes of Angel sexualizing himself are risque but they aren't exploitative or at least aren't by a long shot the worst case in media. He also says that Viv can have the rape fetish but she isn't the only one working on this project, which works if you forget Viv is the director of all HH media and that pooner that larps as Angel did the thumbnail art for at least one of the videoclips.
I don't remember him saying much about Loser, Baby but I've come up with the interpretation that, with a better pacing, the intention was to call out Angel for using his abuse as a cope to indulge his vices and refuse to move forward considering that hell is full of people that ended up there because of being screwed by life nearly as much as for their own sins and he really isn't doing anything on his own to remedy his situation. This reading of course might be me giving the book too much credit, considering that as catchy as the songs might be there's very little cohesion in its usage and it reads like slam poetry. Tbf, HH isn't anything but the forbidden fruit of its influences.

Lute's my favorite character next to Pentious because she's got absolutely zero patience for these singing gay demons, and just wants to do her job, which includes killing these eyesores.
Just watched episodes 7 and 8. I enjoyed them, despite all the flaws. I liked Rosie, hope we see more of her.

Also not going to lie, seeing Alastor getting beaten like he did, when there was all this hype for how strong he was, was annoying, especially since he's one of my favorite characters (after Pentious and Nifty).

Glad to see that Pentious wasn't permanently killed off. Seriously though it's bullshit how anti-climactic that scene was. I understand they wanted to show how powerful Adam was, but it could have been done much better.

Also love the look on Emily's face when she sees him. Absolutely adorable.

They really "Nah, I'd win"'d Alastor. Also Emily is genuinely a cute design that I wish wasn't stuck in this show.

With Alastor it makes sense, he's extremely powerful for a Sinner but I enjoyed it because it shows him as out of his league. For all his mysterious power and boasting, he's not much of a threat compared to people like Adam or Charlie and is literally nothing compared to Lucifer, really shows the only reason Alastor probably wasn't killed in the Lucifer episode was for Charlie's sake.

With Pentious' 'death' I would have only really changed it to where Adam blasts his airship into nothing over a couple seconds instead of comedically erasing it from existence in the blink of an eye, still make Adam super powerful but show that disintegrating a giant airship would still take him a brief moment. I mostly thought Pentious' death was going to be permanent beforehand but seeing him 'die' that anticlimactically clued me into the fact he was either going to somehow show back up in Hell or he would end up in Heaven.

Just finished episode seven. I have quite a bit to say about it.

The beginning with Alastor made me uncomfortable for reasons already stated by everyone else here. His rape-esque face when he hears that Charlie is alone in her bedroom bothered me a lot. And don’t even get me started on this fucking shot:

IMG_4426.jpeg

Charlie gives the finger to an old lady in the crowd of cannibals. What was even the point of that scene? Why was the lady even there to begin with? Is this Viv’s attempt at being funny?

Vaggie and Carmilla have a fight, so I guess anybody who has a fetish for two Hispanic bitches fighting has found a goldmine. Fun fact: I paused the episode to type up these notes, and no joke, it stopped at the perfect moment:

IMG_4428.jpeg

That was unintentionally hilarious.

The song in which Charlie encourages the cannibals to join her in her fight against Adam was actually pretty good. To be honest, even though some of the songs jumpscared me, they themselves admittedly haven’t been horrendous yet.

Just one episode of the season left. Then I can give my final thoughts and rest.

I find it fucking hilarious that all of the 'normal' Viv fans are reeing about how the males are the best characters (Usually Angel and Husk), while I'm sitting here loving Rosie and Lute. I have a soft spot both for over the top kind villains (because when you can eviscerate an entire square mile radius, who the fuck is going to tell you you can't be nice to people?) and for stone cold professionals who love their job.

7 and 8 were the peak of mid. Like, 6/10. Some of the songs were good, the fights were decently choreographed, but ruined by Viv's obsession with jerking the camera off, and Rosie was an absolute delight. I also actually liked that Adam was just...a dude. It was actually one of the few subtle story telling details that I would give Viv credit for.

Having Adam style himself as this jester rockstar...thing...and portray himself as larger than life, and literally THE guy, all the while constantly hiding every aspect of himself, from his face to his body (notice the outfit is so billowy, you never get a true sense of Adam's build), because, deep down, he knows that while he may be the mold from which humanity was cast, the mold, the standard, is always the most boring. No one gives a fuck about him, because he's just...some guy. Especially now that he's surrounded by the (according to lore) hotter than hot Angels all day and night. Breaking the mask over the course of the fight was a clever way to show the destruction of his ego, and the metaphorical mask of his confidence. Shame Alex wasn't given that note, or, much as I love the guy, lacks the range to make him sound desperate.

In addition, yes, I'm hugely biased, but Razzle and Dazzle getting sick dragon goat forms was actually very cool. And Lucifer even got to not be a cuck for about five minutes, even if Alistair had to be given the cuck crown, but fuck that Mary Sue bitch.

Also, while I agree the show is too focused on jamming swears into every fucking space because they aren't skilled enough writers to get past 'tee hee, I said a poop word', especially for characters who shouldn't ever swear, looking at you Alistair, Charlie snapping at the heckler was the one time Charlie swearing was used right. I also really want to see what they'll do with Lute and Lilith,

Now onto the bad shit.
The sacrifice was garbage, and done with the same air as every Marvel 'tragedy then joke' bullshit trope. The humor remained cringe as hell, and while some of the songs were good, blah blah blah, same shit everyone else has said.

My addition is I'm so sick of being cock-teased for Charlies demon form. Especially since it looks like it lifts some draconic features as well. We see parts of it come out, we see the claw, the tail, the horns, and then 'whoops, fuck you main character, time to have the MAN save you in this female led show.'

TL;DR 7 and 8 were pretty good by the shows standards, even if that isn't saying much.

As for the show itself? I think a far superior cartoon creator said it best:

Lute just looks like Human Loona kinda but with a diff haircut. She's pretty at least, unlike Adam.

Probably mentioned before, but tbh these two designs for them unmasked look far cooler than what Vivzie came up with and more like what I'd expect. I even think, probably for the only time ever, that making her a cute black girl like that instead of some generic pale hot topic girl is a good idea. Almost reminds me of all those animated dark skinned bad bitches that came out in 2000s animated movies.

Holy shit, Viv ACTUALLY made an attractive black girl?
Accidently based Viv strikes again: 'No niggers in heaven' - Hazbin Hotel.

Have the twitter chimps lost their shit over this 'white washing' yet?

She changed her from a black woman to just another goth chick lmfao

All right, it's time for me to give some thoughts on the last two episodes of this season. The budget for the animation most likely reared itself again as the cannibal residents who Charlie recruited appear to have disappeared in the climatic fight. Perhaps they were vaporized when Adam began unleashing his angelic lasers. Even Vaggie's appearance looked a bit inconsistent her dance fight with Carmilla, like she was drawn smaller in certain parts. I'm guessing Charlie and Vaggie have been in a relationship for three years yet their only intimate moment was that short song and kiss.
I don't think Charlie ever taught the guests at the hotel about sacrifice for the good of others. Trust and forgiveness were the two lessons if memory serves. It's kind of a sad thing for the denizens of hell. A lot of them are noble in character, but not in action until they are given a chance to do good. It seems like they were never given an opportunity in life to prove their better nature. Moreso than that they were evil to begin with.
Here is something that I could be covered in the second season. Angel Dust's bettering himself offscreen was talked about as being a big deal when Charlie was in Heaven and the night before the big fight. However, he is quite reformed yet as he's still doing pornos for Valentino. The point of redemption in Christianity is that you do not fall back into your vices. What's often left out by those who try owning Christians with quoting what Jesus said to crowd who were going to stone the adulteress ("Let he who is without sin cast the first stone") is what he said to the woman after everyone left ("Go and sin no more"). Sure, Angel stood up to his pimp but he's still not free from his sins.
Watching Vox and Valentino dancing around was fun, though I wish Velvette could've joined in the fun instead of being sidelined. The V-neck crew watching the broadcast was fun, but the "this is better than sex!" line was jarring, among others. I was expecting to hear something clever or for him to grab Valentino and do a victory makeout or something (especially since he was talking about how hard he was. It's really weird to have characters do stuff that...doesn't really build up to anything). By the time the duet came, I had already kinda forgot about them being there.

I feel like they should have been the main antagonists of the first season before getting into the Heaven shit.
They blew their load with Adam and crew being the big threat. Even if the next major antagonist will be this "root of all evil" character, it'll feel like a step down. Vox was singing about a power vacuum with no more Extermination Day but I got the impression there were already tensions between the Overlords and they all were scrambling for angelic weapons the day after the annual culling. Meanwhile, all the different ideas this thread has thrown on how we would improve/change things just make this hypothetical new show more interesting. Perhaps a better tease of the next threat was to have Lute report Adam's defeat/death to a mysterious individual and said individual responses with, "Never send a man to do an angel's work," with reveal of this new character being the archangel Michael or the Angel of Death that is associated with the Tenth Plague of Egypt.
Charlie toting a shield and sprinkling glitter in the eyes of those that have killed her people is jaw dropping. "Sorry!" was grating, not funny. It took her so long to actually get serious, like she never had to really fight anyone in Hell.

Charlie going from an unprepared and naive but passionate young adult with a big dream, to a sheltered idiot who acts and is treated like a child makes me think it's almost exactly this.

Charlie gives the finger to an old lady in the crowd of cannibals. What was even the point of that scene? Why was the lady even there to begin with? Is this Viv’s attempt at being funny?
I'm guessing Charlie getting angry with Stacy and showing more of her demon form when fighting Adam is meant to indicate she will be more assertive in the next season. But it feels more like she gets angry when under stress and will snap even at the slightest bit of confrontation.

I know this sounds a bit schitzo, but I think there was a deliberate design choice when it came to the angels vs the demons:

The angels, with the exception of the glimpses we get in Helluva boss, are all boring white people.

The demons are a lot more diverse, with animal-inspired designs. Not a human to be seen among them, other than fallen angels and their children.

It's a trope I see more and more often. The heroes being loads more diverse than the villains, in order to imply that the latter are cliquish and exclusionary, or to give some faggy, overplayed aesop of "Diversity is Strength."
Fuck you for making defend Viv here, but there actually was quite a bit of diversity in the designs during the heaven song. To the point I was actually disappointed.

Viv wanted to go furry fetish variety hour with hell (aka, chaos), and paint Heaven as this chained down, celestial bureaucratic nightmare (Law.) Tired as fuck concept, but ok, fine, it works. Only to show Heaven as...effectively the exact same, just more peaceful. Right down to having a sex obssesion. It's only real difference is they appear to keep their shit more under wraps, where it should be.

My schizo thought is that she originally WAS gunning for that angle, but got too much heat (or got yelled at by Bezos' goon squad), and changed it to show Heaven as just as fun and quirky, but cleaner and less violent, so therefor, better!

But then, HB had the cherubs, but they were akin to Imps, so low rank jobbers, so who knows.

As is always relevant, Viv is a fucking terrible world builder.

Finally, it’s over. For now.

Charlie and Vaggie kissed. Honestly, if Charlie had been single, I think we’d have less of this Vaggie bullshit. Literally no one except the hardcore HH fans gave a shit about their relationship. It felt empty, like just about every lesbian relationship ever lol

Adam told Lute to chill the fuck out, which was actually kinda funny. You know, Lute and Susie are my new favorites.

Alastor and Charlie cuss some more. Viv may as well have them say “kike” and “nigger” at this point. Also, Adam calls Alastor an edgelord. Good to know the show can be self-aware when it wants to be. And then Adam kicks his ass and it was immensely satisfying. Shame that Alastor didn’t stop smiling, but fuck it. I guess that’s for a later season.

Our glorious snake boi (peace be upon him) got to kiss his cyclops enemy and confess his feelings to her. Absolute chad; I will miss him.

When Vaggie and Lute fought, I got 55% vibes.

I did get a pretty good laugh when Lucifer mistakingly told Adam that he was going to fuck him. Thanks for showing us that you can write comedy when you actually put effort into it, Viv. Too bad you don’t use that talent more often.

So after Adam gets killed by Nifty, I proceed to get jumpscared by Brandon Rogers Katie Killjoy (let’s just say that her throat has been damaged by how much she smokes. I still don’t accept she’s voiced by a man whom Viv now has to pay extra in addition to already voicing Blitzø).

Alastor joins in on the (admittedly good) Disney-esque song and reveals he’s a villain. Wow, I’m sure everyone and their mother totally didn’t see that coming.

Lute talked to Lilith. Okay.

Well… I guess it could’ve been infinitely worse. I did like the action. I did like the song at the end. I’m glad that Sir Pentious got his spot in Heaven. Not sure why he still looks like a snake, but I’ll just assume that snakes are his favorite animal.

By the way, this is the most lesbian shit I’ve ever had the misfortune of seeing:

IMG_4436.jpeg

That’s enough for now. I’ll get some sleep and give my overall opinion of the show thus far. When, I don’t know. Perhaps tomorrow.

Sorry for the autism, my kiwis in Christ.

Hazbin is one of the worst kinds of shows for me. It has potential, it has some good ideas, some of the characters (Sir Pentious) are great, but the execution is so fucked it makes it hard to enjoy. Even just giving the first season a couple more episodes to make the pacing less schizophrenic would have helped. A show with wasted potential and a few good moments is worse than one that's just flat-out bad.
