Capitalism is great if you can live beneath your means for a long time, save up money, start some investments, and take care of your important shit first instead of immediately spending it all on weed, movie tickets for the latest superhero flick, video games, the latesst iPhone, and Funko Pops!. Most millennials, however, are not capable of this level of discipline, which is why communism appeals to them. That's why these people allude and refer to corporate intellectual property all the time including when describing their political philosophy; they are wholly consumerist and, unable to handle their addictions, blame the system instead of themselves.

"Oh but I need to live in this house in the forest that I can't afford by myself because of my mental health you see! And I can't have a roommate, I have social anxiety! Fight the system! Fuck landlords!"

I think it's simply the fact that the basics of communism are easy to understand, whereas the reasons it never works out are complicated.

The effects of them being complicated is twofold; it means the kids are either too dumb to understand them, or they're subject to enough interpretation that they can just ignore them, or any combination thereof.

The problem is that there isn't any real incentive to not be a colossal consumer whore. Giving in to your worst impulses in this way isn't illegal or really even discouraged, and the supply side sees no reason to not help you do so if they can make a buck off of it.
 
I could swear we already had this topic.

Last time it came up, my answer was that a lot of people hear "Communism" and just think it means they get free stuff without having to work. In other words, they're lazy.

These days there might also be people who unironically have a Hasan Piker-esque view that "Communism is when good things happen, Capitalism is bad things" without actually knowing what Communism or Capitalism actually are.

That's all it is.

While I am doubtful that communism/socialism will ever work as well as they'd like it to, I am genuinely curious how we'll deal with things when/if automation destroys most jobs, and unemployment becomes nigh unavoidable.
Will we have to do New Deal type shit, creating unnecessary jobs in order to justify paying people.

Of course, maybe I'm entirely off course and over-automation will either not be an issue or it'll be dwarfed by some other problem.

Lacking experience & media consumption without thinking is the main reason. Many of the young in my country also think that their country is the best (due to typical commie brain-wash campaign). They never imagine how fucked up our country is until late 20s, when they have to actually experience the real thing.
 
People want communism because they are lazy fucks, lazier than niggers, and that's saying a lot. At least Jamal is gonna hustle some weed like a motherfucker and get high off his ass at the same time- for the communist this even is too hard a job. Literally getting high all day and selling poison is too much because it takes away from the modern Communist's ability to goon 24 hours a day.

Well . . . the US was supposed to fork over some $5 billion USD (for war damages) at the close of the Vietnam War in exchange for the rest of the POWs that were being kept as insurance. The US refused, the POWs were left to rot, and Vietnam did not get the repair money.
And then there was that brief, inconclusive war with the chicoms, and putting pol pot back in the cupboard.
Vietnam did not have a good time in the 20th century.

The fad among young people is largely driven by retarded political discourse in the US. Spergy libertarians who dominate that online debate/political influencer scene loudly, obnoxiously, and incorrectly insist that any inch of deviation from their retarded Randian/Hoppeian utopian 'real capitalism has never been tried' system is socialism/communism. Most people look at their theoretical system and understandably say 'this is retarded and will never work', look at capitalism in its present condition and understandably say 'this is retarded and is not working', and then get screeched at that any alternative is socialism and 'won't work'. So they start self-identifying as socialists. When you look at societies where English isn't the main language and public debate isn't dominated by retarded antisocial spergs, this phenomenon doesn't exist to nearly the extent that it does here. Those people never fall under the influence of retards like Hasan or Vaush. They never identify as socialist in the first place and start watching such schlok after some sperg told them that wanting to reinstate Glass-Steagall makes them a communist.
