He's lucky he drove his old Weebwars era fans away, because they would be giving him a massive rash of shit right now.
This was from a few days ago but it reminded me that I have a whole stack of live chats/super chats downloaded that can be used to illustrate how Nick's metrics have changed over time.
Here's a breakdown of Nick's Youtube live chat audience categorized into different groups based on the time period of when they started chatting in Nick's YouTube live chat. (I've described how I came up with these tables and the caveats associated with the method at the bottom of this post.)
Of the live chatters in Nick's YouTube streams from December 2023 (may not sum to 100% due to rounding):
December 2023 audience statistics
5% are pre-Vic
11% are Weebwars era (Feb-Oct 2019)
16% are from Nov 2019 - Oct 2021
= 32% of his live chat audience started watching before he popped off from trial streams.
26% are from the Kyle trial (Nov 2021)
10% are from Dec 2021 - March 2022
9% are from Depp (April-May 2022)
= 45% of his live chat audience started chatting during the peak trial streaming period.
24% date to post-Depp, that is June 2022 or later (the second half of 2022 and all of 2023).
Compare to August 2022, a few months after the Depp trial and the month the Vic appeal failed, and when he went to Hedonism II for (presumably) the first time:
August 2022 audience statistics
5% are pre-Vic
13% are Weebwars era (Feb-Oct 2019)
18% are from Nov 2019 - Oct 2021
= 36% of his live chat audience came before he popped off from trial streams.
26% are from the Kyle trial (Nov 2021)
11% are from Dec 2021 - March 2022
12% are from Depp (April-May 2022)
= 49% of his live chat audience started chatting during the peak trial streaming period.
15% started chatting from June 2022 to August 2022.
These figures actually look quite similar, beyond the fact that the "post-Depp" group is now larger because it covers a much longer period of time.
What's wildly different is not the proportions, but the size. By my tally, Nick had over 14,000 different accounts come to his YouTube channel sending at least one message to his live chat back in August 2022. That figure was down about 80% by December 2023. Remember, this is not super chats, this is just people sending regular live chat messages. I could do the same thing for the super chats, but I'm guessing the general idea is the same except I think that's down more than 80%.
In other words, Nick added a whole bunch of fans from his trial streaming period, but then through his drunken idiocy drove most of them away.
Or maybe they all went to Rumble? That must be it.
The proportions of chatters that came during each time period is about the same. That reads to me like Nick has shed most of his viewers associated with each era of his show, while keeping the absolutely most dimwitted fans he accumulated over the years, which is what I was guessing beforehand anyway based on
@Himedall All-seeing Waifu's posts about the Locals chat!
How this was calculated:
As some people may know, each YouTube account is associated with a unique Channel ID. This channel ID remains the same even if you change your username. The live chat replays for every VOD has each chatter's channel ID linked to all their chats. That means that by combining the live chat replays associated with all the VODs from a channel it's possible to look at each live chat participant and determine the first time they sent a message in that channel's chat.
Since I obtained the live chat replays for VODs that were in some cases years old, the figures above are subject to certain caveats:
- I don't have the replays for any VODs that have been taken down either by YouTube or Rekieta himself. (I believe there was a period in early 2021 where Nick experimented with deleting the VODs and uploading them on a second channel or something? That shouldn't really effect this too much.)
- When a YouTube account is banned or deleted by the user, I believe this removes all the comments associated with that user.
As far as I know, this is very similar to how Playboard must come up with their super chat data, the only difference is I am pretty sure they must scrape it live rather than downloading the replay after the fact. This prevents undercounting of revenue from the two caveats above.
