I kind of want to get my hands on this cursed artifact, though I'm also half expecting the date of printing to get pushed back indefinitely and then there went my ~40 fucking dollars. But somebody has to get it for archival purposes! If I do get it I promise to share it here.

*Edit* Added my shipping info to the cart and it comes to nearly fifty goddamn dollars and I'm in the U.S. Should I drop 50 bucks on something totally retarded that I might not ever get?
I didn't know Ken got his sense of money from Chris-Chan. Who'd pay $50 for a rip-off comic when the real deal is only 1/5th of the price?

If it is to be archived for the greater good/for the lulz, then it's worth every penny.

I bit the bullet and bought a preorder, all autistic ratings welcome. According to the website:
THE LARA-SU CHRONICLES: BEGINNINGS is going to be sent to the printer either late December 2023 / early January 2024. Production and delivery will span approximately 3 months. It will be available for Comic-Con 2024. The only way to score a copy sooner is by pre-ordering it.
The initial print run will be 2000 copies. Any more than that will require a second print run, so if you’re the type of collector who demands a first printing, sooner rather than later should be the priority when ordering.

Sent Priority Mail (USA only) Anywhere outside USA must inquire about shipping cost resulting in an invoice being sent
My other concern is the condition the book will arrive in- I remember a story of a fan commissioning art from him and among various other issues Ken was being retarded about what shipping service he wanted. The client ended up receiving a bent drawing due to poor shipping.

You're doing a service to the farms sir.

Penders' pissing himself with rage right about now.

So what's his deal in this series, is he a treasure hunter like in the OVA or is he the guardian like in canon?
He's basically an echidna warrior (and the last of his kind) whose tribe warred with the owls who adopted Sonic over possession of the Master Emerald. He, Sonic, and Tails now share the guardianship of it after the events of Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

Penders can hem and haw all he wants, but the echidnas of the movie continuity are closer to depiction from Sonic Adventure so he he has no real claim to the ideas presented in the films or this series.

That's weird, there's owls fighting over the Master Emerald now? What even is the Master Emerald in the movies, is it a power source, some object of worship, or is it holding the fabric of the universe together?

As an aside, I just subjected myself to the trailer. This show is typical Hollywood gay faggotry, as in the kind of cringe faggotry Hollywood got up to before diversity shit was in style. I feel like I'm watching a Bayformer's trailer.

Hollywood can't do anything cool to save their lives.

Update on the Lara-Su Chronicles preorders: https://kenpenders.com/were-going-into-crunch-time/

Despite promising that the first 200 people would be given a place on a thank-you page, Ken has yet to hit 200 preorders. He also has yet to actually finish the book and has about 2/3's of it sent off to the printers with the rest of the pages...I guess in some state of progress. This is currently a month past the original printing timeframe.
I will give Ken credit that making a comic is a herculean amount of work, especially if you're doing 100% of the job. But I was him I'd be shitting bricks over the print deadline arriving and not actually having a completed product to send.
He does have the entire printing job funded through existing preorders so that makes me feel somewhat more optimistic on getting my copy!

:story:

Just how many copies is going to be the print run in total? I swear, if he can't even sell 200 copies, let alone 500 or more, he should call it quits and retire. He's too old and unpopular for this line of work and it must feel beyond humiliating for his ego.

His previous blog post said 2000 for the "first run" and he very optimistically suggested the possibility of more printings in the future. At this point 2000 is going to be an optimistic number even considering his plans to debut this at ComicCon.

I think Ken took too long and the novelty wore off. A couple years ago, a fair amount of people would have bought bootleg Knuckles as a curiosity because of the drama surrounding him and the Archie lawsuit. Now, not even people who were hate watching him give a shit.

The seven Chaos Emeralds made up the Master Emerald, then the thing broke and they fell out. After Super Sonic did his thing, they fucked off like the Dragon Balls. Knuckles fused the shards of the ME back together and now the three main guys look after it. It seems to be a separate power source? They may use it to negate the emeralds like in the games, but it's too soon to tell.
