Eric July is a politisperg youtube grifter, but it gives me great schadenfreude to see progressive comic people like Ken Penders flail in horror and confusion at the money he raised.

The simple fact of the matter is that Ken Penders was already a divisive/shit writer and artist before the wave with his fair share of detractors, but it wasn't like his name is anathema.
Now, fast forward to now, and no one would fucking buy anything with his name on it, no matter how high quality, out of pure spite. Fans of "his" characters hate him cause he stopped all content with them, fans of the comic hate him for fucking up the entire storylines and arguably being the thing that eventually got archie canned, and you just know there's a million and one sallyfags gunning for his blood.

To be perfectly honest, I"m surprised that Sega (at least the american branch) hasn't just begun crapping on one of those ciractures of him all the time. I highly doubt people would be willing to defend him, nor would he have grounds to sue.

Tl;Dr version: Longtime fan commissions Penders, who then doesn't even draw what the commissioner asked, copied other artists works, argued with and insulted the commissioner, failed to properly mail the final piece leading to physical damages, and more.

Penders clearly has some major malfunctions, but that commission guy was totally letting Ken make him his bitch.

On the one hand Ken's arrogance, pettiness and plagiarism as described in the post is completely on character, so no surprises there.

On the other hand, anyone who unironically and genuinely wants to commission Ken Penders get what they fucking deserve.
 
But every issue I had with the piece was an uphill battle to fix, with protests on his part that things I’d wanted had never happened in the comic – including things that happened in comics that he wrote. When I pointed out that this was a commission piece for fun, like a story that never existed, it didn’t seem to help whatever was occurring on his end

Though I agree with you guys that the reviewer seems shy of a few IQ points himself. Never meet your heroes, but if your hero is Ken Penders, you might deserve to meet him.
 
I still feel bad for him. Ken has definitely ascended (descended?) to Chris-tier levels, including his views on slow-in-the-minds. Imagine someone still caring about your work, despite being universally reviled, and dicking them around the entire time. At least Chris followed through with his commissions.

The piece is still awful, too. Everyone is looking somewhere else, trying to hit Metal Sonic like a piñata. No horizon, no linear perspective, it’s terribly uneven.

True. I wasn’t thorough with my line of thought. Penders doesn’t have a Null, so he remains unchecked. To our amusement, of course.

The Lara-Su Chronicles will never see the light of day. Ken’s Twitter drops are his I’M WORKING ON IT.
