I'm not convinced "everything" would amount to all that much in Nick's case. Didn't someone discover that they don't actually own the house outright? His source of income at this point is a complete mystery, but if it's from a trust, then that's likely out of her reach. Even if he's sitting on a big chunk of inherited wealth in joint accounts, he might be able to shield it from a claim of community property by arguing that the assets predate the formation of the marriage. (I'm not sure how it works in MN, but this is true in some states.)

People like Nick's family are very good at circling the wagons and stonewalling to protect their money.
