Russian Special Military Operation in the Ukraine - Mark IV: The Partitioning of Discussion

The FARA program was axed, which includes Bells submission and an engine program...
Yep and the Raider X was probably the perfect platform. Extremely fast, much more appropriately sized.

Of course the Army cancelled it, they cancel everything useful for idiotic bullshit.

See Crusader howitzer for a prime example.

Putin is (in)famous for giving the most convoluted and stretched out answers to the simplest questions, to the point of Russians themselves making jokes about it. All of you sperging for the past 10 pages with your Great Text Walls of China are missing the point.

because why just shoot prisoners when you can invest exponentially more resources and time in starving them to death
This is something I never bought, the total amount of jews allegedly killed in the holocaust. I've seen this map from an official jewish source, and it's basically inconceivable. There's also a 4chan post breaking down the math for how quickly and how many jews were allegedly killed at Treblinka, it doesn't add up.

so you're telling me that two thirds of all european jews died in the holocaust, that the nazis just effortlessly identified every single jew and didn't make any large scale mistakes. and they were efficiently shipped to death camps and incinerated and disposed of while they were fighting a war against the rest of the world?
I just don't buy it. Maybe it happened, but it wasn't 6 million.

TFW you create a high tech air burst grenade launcher but then cancel it because it would actually win beat the goat herders and end the war.

Instead, the US Army put that money into drag queens.

Meanwhile the Russians have nuclear torpedoes and hypersonic missiles.

The Decline and Fall of the American Empire is happening in real time.

- Vladimir Vladimirovich, how much is 2 + 2?
- I will be brief. You know, just the other day I was at the Russian Academy of Sciences, I talked to a lot of scientists, including young ones, by the way, very competent people. So we discussed this problem in particular, talked about the current economic situation in the country; they also mentioned their plans for the future. Of course, first of all. they were concerned about the problem of employment demand; the issue of mortgage loans was no less acute, but I can assure you that all these problems are solvable and we will do our best to solve them in the very near future. This also applies to the topic raised in your question.

Putin is the internet's biggest troll. One interview, which is mocked by the left wing media, has sent thousands of shills to swap out their 'eastern european strategic general' armchair, for a 'russian historian expert' armchair.

Putin must be reading reddit and laughing his arse off. "Look at the dumb americans, calling me stupid while playing into my game".

Honestly the US is likely the most historically illiterate country in the world. On sites like this, you'll run into a lot of Americans that know at least some history, but that's not the average normie American. Numerous studies have been done and have found that the vast majority of Americans can't even pass history tests that are required for US citizenship, so your average goat fucker with less than 30 minutes of studying has more knowledge of US history than your average native born mutt. https://nypost.com/2019/02/15/americans-dont-know-much-about-nations-history-survey/

I wonder if this Scott Greer fellow is you, since he wrote something very similar.

Lawl. NATO doesn't stand a chance once history legitimacy is to be a factor.

Yeah, what could be more useful than a grenade that's even less lethal than a regular 40mm and costs 30x more per shot?

"But bro you can lase the target area and then fiddle with the controls to program each grenade to airburst at exactly the right distance so you can tag dudes in a trench or behind cover!"

I'm not sure how that would have "won the war against the goat herders", please be sure to let me know.

What if the Russians had a similar system with their 30mm grenades?
Ukrops cannot even hide anymore.

It's the fact that he didn't say anything particuarly controversial that makes it all so amusing. The Ukraine shill accounts are livid that he got any screentime at all and so they're trying to compensate by mocking his history lesson (which, by the way makes it very clear that they only watched highlights if anything).

This is what happens when you make one man the Devil figure of your new religion; all your thought becomes bent on subverting what he says, even if it's historical fact.
I still don't understand how the Hell the Ukranians are clinging on in Krinky given they're on the wrong side of a river. I can only assume that either the Russians aren't really trying that hard or the Ukies are fighting like tigers.
This whole war can be described as "The russians aren't trying very hard"

Mortars fill that role infinitely better (and cheaper).

The XM25 only had applicability in the bizarre unwinnable "drive around until we get ambushed then counter-attack as quickly as possible because they're already retreating" GWOT "combat", where by the time the mortars were set up the enemy had already retreated and disappeared into the crowd. So infantry carriable, no-setup weapons like the XM25 would have some applicability if the emphasis was to allow the people being shot at initially to be able to be the ones that killed them (which only had psychological value)
Even then, the US didn't pursue it since at that point, their information and JSOC apparatus was established enough that they would just get their informants to tell them who did it, then launch a "night raid" and get the "spec ops tier 1 operators" to shoot a goat herder (who may or may not have been involved) in the middle of the night

I don't think the US ever thought trench warfare would make a comeback, but those air burst 25mm grenades would probably do wonders for clearing trenches and fox holes. It's biggest flaw is that it's not a bigger caliber. 25mm can only carry so much thunder, especially compared to the dumb 40mm grenades infantry units are already carrying.

The F-35 program should demonstrate just how hard and expensive it is to force anything through military procurement. And that's a program saddled with trying to deal with the different requirements of three different services and three different variations, which was basically a way to sneak in the three different planes it should have been. Part of why the whole thing was so damn expensive. Still pretty successful, if just retardedly expensive, people don't realize just how rough some of the previous US planes were back in their development phases. There's a reason the F-16 was nicknamed the Lawn Dart after all.

If they'd left the development of individual aircraft to the individual branches, the Air Force would have produced the same thing, just their version of it, the Navy would have spent twice as much and delivered either vaporware or something barely able to function, and the Marines would've gotten told to suck it up and enjoy their Harriers, here's a box of Crayons. That anything workable at all came out of the F-35 program is actually impressive for modern US procurement. Even if it is just fantastically expensive and we should have just let the Air Force have their 400 F-22s back in the 90s and we wouldn't have this issue.

There were rumors of a 40mm standalone version but then the whole project was cancelled in 2018.
The M79 is still preferred by many US spec ops over the M320 underbarrel.

Are you mistaking it with the AV-8B? We were always told our aircraft was the lawn dart. VSTOL aircraft have to use downward sloped wings in order go generate a stable pocket of air under the airframe. The gun pods are shaped like fins, and when removed, they have to be replaced with "strakes" that mimic the shape of the gun and ammo pod. The benefit of this design is that you can hover, but the downside is it doesn't glide. The AV8 uses a single Pegasus II engine, so if it fails, your nose points at the Earth and won't pull back up. Most of the times you see an AV8 pilot eject, they do so before the aircraft has even lost control. As soon as the failure is confirmed, you get the fuck out.

The osprey has some really interesting low altitude crashes in it's development, but I don't think it earned them any nicknames.

@Fried-Rice12 You also have to consider that 40mm low pressure is a little too spicy to fire from the shoulder. They wanted this platform to be more direct fire.

If I'm not mistaken the F-16 had zero uplift or maneuverability if the engine is off. The moment the engine dies the thing is in a free-fall and the pilot has to eject or pray they can restart the engine and stabilize their deathspin. Coming from a history of prior airplanes that had always had some gliding ability, it was rather alarming.

I guess it wouldn't surprise me if numerous US aircraft have been given the nickname. Ballistically, it seems appropriate.

A Fuel Depot was hit by a Russian Strike. This resulted in a big explosion but also a large fire. This fire took a really long time to put out because Ukraine didn't have enough firefighters to put it out. Kharkov gets enough strikes that it should have a good firefighting system in place. The fact this isn't in place or isn't working suggests Ukraine is having manpower issues in more than the Army.

The big news is there has been movement around Chasiv Yar. It has been mentioned here before but I thought I'd show you the map.
Chasiv Yar.jpg
Chasiv Yar is directly west of Bakhmut as you can see from the map above. I thought I'd show you what is around this area in order to talk about why Chasiv Yar is important. Chasiv Yar is one of the cities you need need to take in order to take the Slovyansk-Kramatorsk Line. This is a massive line of fortifications built pre-war and once this line is cleared all the pre-war fortifications that Ukraine has built in this area will have been taken meaning Ukraine will be much more open to offensive action. Part of the reason this has been so slow is because of these fortifications. This line is probably easier to take than the Bakhmut line as Bakhumut had more supply routes and it also involved taking Soledar but it will still be hard and take some time.

Russian Movement into Heorheevka. This is directly west of Donetsk. This is partially notable because this region has been pretty static for a while.
Heorhiivka.jpg

More Movement around Avdeevka. The railroad appears to have been captured. Ukraine is defending this to the last. So it will take a little while.
Avdeevka.jpg

No big arrow offensive actions taken though I don't think we should expect them for now. This is still a Grinding War of attrition. But still lots of offensive action that will kill lots of Ukrainians. And there is definitely movements being made in order to try and set up for movements in the future.

This is why you can't apply a combat situation like Afghanistan to a war like Ukraine. They have different requirements and need different types of things. I guess fighting in a war like that would at least expose you to being shot at and being extremely careful but as far as teaching you about modern warfare it is completely useless.
