While there are some people who are a bit too obsessed (sorry @attractive_pneumonia ) the vast majority of what's happening here is simply a forum thread discussing what's happening on a scuffed web-based reality show. Meanwhile, Tay has been personally contacting lolcows (something explicitly against this site's rules) in addition to throwing romans and giving Frank her used panties on stream with her full face and identity known in front of thousands of people.

The S1 cast had aspirations of launching into modest internet fame, Jon wanting to be some knock-off Andrew Tate influencer; Josie, Vance and Sylvia wanted to signal boost their music and streaming, comparing motivations for the S2 cast is way harder because they're all fuckups in some way or another, or just had no aspirations, but you could probably point out that Shinji was there solely for prize money to pay for his tuition since he apparently cannot work a job in the US, and Tay was there to signal boost her crochet business which is why she was crocheting shit for people and displaying her stuff all the time early season.

I feel like the biggest tell the season didn't do well/production hated the fish is the merch. Last season they had the fan made merch that was great. This year? Didn't do it at all.

Well merch is not something I can really fault them for. How wide is the audience? 100k? The last thing you want to do is buy a bunch of merch to sell only to not have it move. I think a more pragmatic option is to just allow the fish themselves to roll merch and just take a cut of it. Danye seems to have hired a graphic artist for some Beaver Street stuff and Cawww gang shirts, I guess Trish could probably do something equally so for the Voodoo Mama Juju character she played, Tay could crochet some fishtank logos. But I don't really see much opportunity for merch out of this show. Most of the "Merch" and fan art is really only meaningful to the person its depicting as maybe a poster behind them while they stream.

Also the merch was like 60 bucks. I don’t care how nice the shirt is, no one will get the reference you would kind of look weird in public. It’s alt tec not YouTube, you don’t get as many viewers that’s why YouTubers get away with it. (Which I still think is stupid)

Part of justifying the payment is access to footage since the show itself is free. That said, I think a lot of customers would pay regardless with zero expectation of any static media but so far they seem to want to offer something back that people can have forever.
I'd be ok with no edit and full archives.

They brought out the camera for high def footage so they clearly had intentions to do some sort of episodic format of the show, its just I have zero clue how you would even begin to pull off the first week or two in a narrative fashion that makes sense. The best option would be to have archives available and to do replays of either seasons every now and then. Synchronize all the feeds and play them back over 40 days so you could experience the show in the original broadcast format, maybe even with the original chat log reactions to it as well and TTS logs if they exist. This resolves the same issue for Season 1 and likely Season 2 that the episodes diverge dramatically from what went on during the show.
