RWBY - The Hindenburg on which Rooster Teeth rests its hopes, dreams and future

Assuming Barbara isn’t making shit up to garner sympathy, because I imagine she might have thought the reaction was going to be "Poor you. RWBY is so hard to make" instead of "what a fucking colossal waste of money."

I am willing to bet everything went to “benefits” and other stupid expensive that never got directly into animation like free food at the companies expense.

All the stunts they tried do seem like desperation for keeping their luxuries than earning money. If they truly wanted RWBY to succeed they would have just made RWBY like all other animation studios does it. Instead they seem adamant to keep it "in-house". That's fishy as hell. As if they knew they wouldn't have so much privilege elsewhere.

Paying animation salaries in Texas can't be cheap. There's a reason animation is usually done overseas, unless you are a big studio like Pixar.Still I sincerely doubt most RWBY animators saw too much of that money beyond their industry standard salaries tho.

Never underestimate the capability of incompetent people in wasting money.

I can’t imagine this is breaking even, though. Maybe fire everyone non-essential until you have a plan and funding to actually do something would be the better option.
Yeah, but that would assume you have someone competent running the studio. They're in this position because of the clear incompetence that's been in place for nearly forever.

It also isn't just RWBY - every RT project is in flames at the moment. Most valuable creators have left ages ago and they've burned most of their goodwill with their fellow creators, their fanbase, and their new corporate overlords.

Every quarter some poor HR person has to try and explain to corporate why one of their executives has an onlyfans.

I found something.

I’ve been listening to RWBY songs recently, and something hit me. Vol 7 songs are a visible downgrade. Vol 6 is nice, Vol 8 is okayish, but Vol 7 soundtrack is super bad. I also changed my mind on Vol 9 soundtrack. It has like one or two good songs.

Vol 9 is free from March 30th:

They are also “actively taking with partners” to bring Volume 10 to “life” and says there is progress. Somewhat contradictorally, they state that they are still “looking for partners” to make it come to life. Whichever of the statements is true is anyone’s guess

Bonus FIRST content:
  • Vol 9 retrospective (they will also be answering questions from FIRST members)
  • The shitty Grimm Campaign (RWBY D&D) series that makes a mess of RWBY lore is back. They are making completely new mini arc for it with new characters. “You will have fun. That is a threat” actual words said in advertising.
  • “RWBY Volume 9 Beyond” storybook looking at key moments in Vol 9 “and even beyond”.

The shitty Grimm Campaign (RWBY D&D) series that makes a mess of RWBY lore is back.
I have never watched RWBY, but trying to tie a Justice League crossover AND a gimmick Critical Role ripoff campaign into the the main story seems unnecessary and retarded.

Wait, they are doing that to the Grimm Campaign? Last I saw they were trying to pretend to be in-lore
No idea, I thought you were saying they were tying whatever the Grimm Campaign was into the show's story. And the Justice League crossover is supposedly canon to the show.

The crossover is a spin off and non canonical. Grimm Campaign, on the other hand is canon even if it fucks with the lore and is pointless. For example, in it they reveal a magical mass Grimm control neclace. Obviously since it never appeared in the main show, it will get destroyed. Why did the Dark God allow some retards way back to start stealing his Grimm when he considered using Magic against him treason? Who the fuck knows. They probably never considered it. Why hasn’t Ozpin created something similar? “Stop asking questions”, I assume is the answer.

Grimm Campaign canon:

The Justice League has been described as “canon-adjacent, which we do for a few of our properties. Everything about it is pretty canon. The characters are going to act as they should. It just means we're probably not going to reference their run-in with Wonder Woman later in the series. It's meant to be our characters at certain instances. That's why we call it canon-adjacent.“

So while Grimm Campaign is definitely canon, the cross over is a spin off that will never have relevance in RWBY show and is just meant to plop bunch of RWBY characters from some instances of their lives into the crossover. Notice that when speaking about the canon of the crossover they refer to it only in so far that the RWBY characters exist in RWBY and their behavior, and specifically state that these events will never again come up, essentially just making it a spinoff

Tldr: Grimm Campaign’s worldbulding is canon, the Justice League crossover is just a spinoff

Social media has made us terrible at conveying anything online. The proper way to say this would have been "We're in talks to make Volume 10 happen but we still need help. We're looking for additional partners and are open to donations and assistance."

Also, both Funimation and Roosterteeth, after canning Vic over all-but-nothing, are in more dire straights than the man himself is. Divine Punishment at it's finest.

You know, it would help if they still had an active social media presence to look for talent… oh wait.

Honestly the series being on life support is still weird to me. I figure RWBY would still be making good money through merchandise, I guess the exorbitant costs are really that high.

Exorbitant costs and locking it behind secondary platform's paywall doesn't exactly spell success.

30k/min to look like dogshit? Is that standard rate for an anime?
Anime is ridiculously cheap in comparison. Getting a job at an anime studio is pretty much like volunteering to work in a sweatshop because you love anime. Season 1 of One Punch Man, which is one of the better animated shows out there, was around $80,000 an episode on the low end of estimates, or $3333 a minute, basically a tenth the price. Even on the high end of estimates that I found, around $150k, you're still looking at significantly less than $10,000/min on a vastly superior product. A season of anime tends to cost less than a single episode of an American cartoon
