Disaster Shooting reported at pastor Joel Osteen's Lakewood Church in Texas - Two victims had been taken to the hospital. A 5-year-old- boy is in critical condition and a 57-year-old male is being treated for a hip injury after being shot in the leg.

Authorities respond to reported shooting near Houston’s Lakewood church

Houston police quickly responded to Lakewood Church after receiving initial reports of possible shots fired around Lakewood Church.

The church confirmed shots were fired, adding, "Please pray for Lakewood and our community."

According to local law enforcement officials, the suspect has been shot and pronounced dead at the scene.

The shooter has been identified as a 30 to 35-year-old female who entered the church around 1:53 p.m. ET. She was holding a long riffle, carrying a backpack, and holding the hand of a small child.

Witnesses say she was claimed to have a bomb in her backpack and was spraying an unknown substance on the church's ground.

Multiple Law enforcement agencies are on-site collaborating on the investigation and will remain on the scene for the next several hours.

They believe this is an isolated incident, and they are conducting a deeper investigation to make sure no one else is inside the church.

Two victims had been taken to the hospital. A 5-year-old- boy is in critical condition and a 57-year-old male is being treated for a hip injury after being shot in the leg.

Several off-duty officers were at the church at the time of the shooting and were able to take the suspect down before she could claim any lives.



Governor Greg Abbott today issued a statement on the shooting near Lakewood church in Houston:

“Our hearts are with those impacted by today’s tragic shooting and the entire Lakewood Church community in Houston. Places of worship are sacred. I have been in contact with Mayor Whitmire and offered the full support and resources of the State of Texas, including Department of Public Safety officers and Texas Rangers, to help this community and help bring swift justice to the criminal who committed this heinous act. Join Cecilia and me in praying for this community during this difficult time and for the brave men and women in blue who acted quickly to respond to this tragedy.”

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said it is believed that the shooter was shot by a Harris County deputy.

"We also have HCSO deputies who work extra-jobs at the church," he added.

Lakewood Church, founded by Joel and Delores Osteen, is among the largest congregations in the country, averaging about 45,000 attendees per week, according to its website.

Officials set up a reunification center at Lamar high school and are asking people to avoid the area at this time.

My son-Quito and I and the entire Carranza family ask for your prayers for my grandson Samuel Moreno-Carramza who has suffered a gun shot wound to the brain. Sam is seven years old and is clinging to life today at Texas Children's Hospital as I fly there from Mexico and his father from Florida.
The outpouring of love and support we have received today is overwhelming and as we try to make sense of this completely preventable horror, we want to make three things absolutely clear.
First, although my former daughter-in-law raged against Israel and Jews in a pro Palestinian rant yesterday this has nothing to do with Judaism or Islam. Nothing! But this is what happens when reckless and irresponsible reporting let's people with severe mental illness have an excuse for violence.

Third, my family asks for privacy and at the same time we ask that this be a wake-up call.. my daughter-in-law when she was taking medication for schizophrenia was a very sweet and loving woman. But mental illness is real illness and when family members seek emergency protections they're not doing so for their own sake but for the sake of the person who is ill..... And to protect her child and society.
If today you suspect that someone needs mental health care never cease your efforts to secure their safety and that of others.

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. Sam and I appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Samuel apparently didn't want to miss the 2016 holiday season, so instead of waiting for Valentine's Day he arrived in plenty of time for Turkey and stuffing . Weighing in at just under 1 kilo (1lb. 11oz) Samuel was born by emergency C/Section at just 24 weeks or 16 weeks early.

Since then Samuel has been in the NICU level 4 and now level 3 in The Texas Children's"s Pavilion and he is currently still in the ventilator and being tube fed breast milk donated by marvelous women. Despite this Quito's first born child is a strong little man and he has battled successfully against pneumonia and the need for a PICC line as well as his extreme prematurity. At this point the prognosis is getting better every day and my hope is he beats no longer term effects from his early entry.


As of today Sam is 2lbs and 13oz. (1.3kilos) which is a weight gain of 50% in 6 weeks. (Imagine a 200 pound man becoming 300 pounds in 6 weeks and it gives a whole new meaning to "biggest gainer")

This Caribgbridge site is great because it will give me one place to blog, to post pictures and to update everyone who knows us. A trust fund/crowd funding site is being set up for Samuel's needs and will be managed through ENT credit union. That way all the people who have asked how they can help will have a link that lets them do this. My sister's are helping with that.
Thank-you all for the outpouring of prayer, emotional support and words of advise we have received. These are like bread for my soul during this very tenuous, crazy journey of neonatal intensive care . Keep it coming!
