He can't even fake intelligence well. Smartest guy I know spent a good year or two after college reading the same book over again. Not that either is a sign of intelligence or the lack of it.

But I can see Fatrick genuinely believing he has an amazing memory. Sometimes in people with brain damage or dementia your memory or senses are impaired but the rest of the brain will still try to confabulate meaning from your experiences, to the point of making up experiences, filling in the gaps very liberally. Like you can steal their wallet without them noticing, and they will think they left their wallet at home. Or they forgot to dress themselves before leaving home and when they notice, they will believe someone stole their clothes. And seeing as Fatrick confabulates large parts of his entire life, he probably never experiences not remembering something, as some part of him will just make up a believable memory. And him being a retard, it doesn't even need to be very realistic for him to be believable.
Thats imho also why he believes he is never wrong, among other feats.

The difference between you and Fatrick is you are not proclaiming yourself to be an author: a profession that requires reading to such a degree that you can’t not reread books.
