Under normal circumstances I could see how a company would find Selen bothersome to work with with her habits of just ignoring everything and doing it her own way regardless. add on top of that a menhera history which I'm sure makes any sort of direction giving difficult because who knows how they might take the criticism.

I'm a pretty casual Vtuber watcher and I don't get the idea of being a fan of the corporation on top of being a fan of the tubers. Maybe some corpo tubers are afraid that their fans are like hardcore Disney people who aren't just fans of their favorite Disney franchises but fans of Disney as an entity as well. If there isn't a larger entity behind their favorite thing it's less enjoyable somehow? Scary to think about imo. I couldn't give a shit about what Holo or Niji get up to as corporate entities I just want to see the silly girls on my screen

For me it's less being a diehard fan of the company, and more being relatively pleased with that company as a whole. For example, Hololive. It's had its missteps - Chris, stalking Mel, touching Chinese nonsense at all, but the company it is today seems to be doing good, doing well, and consistently finding talents that I enjoy. I will be there for the debut of any new generation, JP, ID, EN, or Stars, and I'll probably find someone I like. To that extent, I am a fan of the company.

I believe they're the ones with the very silly names. One of them is also French, which is suboptimal.
There are 3 waves after Illuna. All of which "the ones with the bad names" could be applied to. Which is what I mean when I say it doesn't narrow it down much because a full third of the branch falls into that category. Also I'd contend that the shit names began earlier than Illuna with shit like "Mysta Rias" (Mysterious)
