Crossposting, but look at what TV Tropes has to say about people like us enjoying Minus One.

I didn't know that harping on your government's stank and war being a bitch was a party-exclusive thing.
The universalness of Minus One is why it worked so damn well over here, but gotta draw a line in the sand somewhere I guess.

Well, I finally got around to watching Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.

It was...okay. I don't know, but with all the positivity I heard about it, I'm a little disappointed with the final product.

It felt like one of those disposable Disney+ shows where it fills in the blanks between the films by giving us superfluous information we never really needed. And if you want monster action, the show doesn't give you much. There's a fight on Skull Island, a couple of quick scenes with Godzilla, a brief moment with a giant boar thing, an episode centered around "The Frost Vark," and the final episode has a quick fight for Godzilla and a brief cameo from Kong in the last scene. Its pretty light on monsters for a 10 episode show, which would be fine if the story was interesting or exciting, but it really wasn't.

I also thought the show was a little jarring with is constant jumping back and forth between present and past. The two timelines do converge by the end and there is a payoff, which is fine, but I would have rather had the story told in linear fashion. Maybe they can't do it that way because there is a contractual thing where starring members of the cast have to appear in every episode or something, but it made for a disjointed presentation. Also, I liked the 1950s characters way more than the 2015 characters.

There are some solid performances throughout the show. Kurt Russell really holds the show together and Kumiko from Karate Kid 2 was really good despite limited screen time. Also, Russell's son playing his younger self was kind of neat. However, I wish they had gotten Ken Wantanabe to be in this as his presence was sorely missed. I mean, that guy was the face of Monarch in the first two MV Godzilla movies and it felt like he should have been in this.

I guess I wanted the show to be one of two things: 1) A history of Monarch, which it kind of does, but it also portrays Monarch as a corrupt government body that has lost its way, which is not how it was portrayed in the MV films, so it felt jarring. For large parts of the show, Monarch almost feels like the bad guys, which is just weird to somebody that has watched the movies. And 2) A Monster Hunter show where each episode deals with Monarch taking on a different Titan threat. That might have been more fun at least.

So yeah, Monarch is not the worst thing I've ever seen and it doesn't break the MV or anything, but it isn't exactly must-see material either. There are some good performances and cool moments to keep it from being a complete waste, but I feel like this could have been so much more.

Surprised no one brought this up but, this is making some rounds in the Godzilla scene as a terrible, terrible analysis of the entire series: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RqWf8FqM7cc
Already a minute in and he straight up lies about Godzilla being public domain in America and Steamboat Willie, uh....not?
That's what happens when a movie from an old franchise gets widespread acclaim and popularity. These fucking youtube-leeches have to make videos of it no matter how little they actually know and care about the original franchise.

And with the blatant misinformation and lack of research, that explains everything about why the video is bad.
No wonder I got recommended the rant videos about it first.

You think this was just rage bait to get this hack some views and traffic on his channel? Not sure but this doesn't seem to be the way to win any fans.

The fact Blob is seething over -1 is something that shows how insecure the left is with their movies.
"DURR Conservatives like the movie because no gays or diversity!"
That's part of the reason, but the main reason is because its a GOOD MOVIE with a great cast, tight writing and genuine emotional moments that modern movies lack.
I want to see movies that make me forget the world around me. I don't want to see some lesbian black woman talking down to me in a fucking scene that was so badly hamfisted in it jarringly puts me back into the real world.
The only other movies I liked this year that didn't have woke shit was Shin Kamen Rider and Oppenheimer. Because they are REAL movies, not scams made to preach "CURRENT YEAR" shit in the worst way possible.
So fuck Bob and fuck his beloved MCU.
