I won't speak to civilian Jet Engines because I don't know much about it except to say I know certain US companies are trying to get all ceramic Jet Engines which would be cool but I don't know if they can pull it off.

But in terms of Military Aircraft Russia is just fine and it is the US that has subpar engines. Look at how many issues the F135 the engine for the F-35 has. It has to operate too hot and so now therefore runs out quicker. There have been tons of other problems as well. And IIRC this isn't the first engine that was supposed to go in the F-35 and they had to use the backup which became what is in the airframe now because the original couldn't work right.Just about everything made by the US, that is not a modification of a previous thing, in the past 15 years has been trash that isn't as good as the thing it replaces. The F-35 is trash, the Littoral combat ship is trash, the Zumwalt's are trash, the SIG Spear is trash and even the Gerald Ford has problems.
Russia's systems are not perfect but this war has confirmed that a lot of stuff is decent or even good. Lancet works well, Iskanders work well and the Pantsir has proven itself just to name a few.

Weapons systems like Pantsir of course have no real NATO equivalent.
As a result NATO/Ukraine has a hard time figuring things like drones or lancets in an economical fashion. There is the Rheinmetall Flakpanzer heavy AA but it doesn’t have the flexibility (and of course numbers) of Russian small AA vehicles like the Pantsir or Tunguska.

Part of me wants to believe Zelensky sent Azov to die before they off him first. It seems like a total annihilation today.
Sarmat is in a different throw weight class. Topol is the closest equivalent to minuteman.
With Topol-M and family that followed incorporating anti-SDI/anti-ballistic missile defence means from NPO Mashi's Albatross program. and took in part "Universal" R&D/ and ICBM program from Yuzhnoye Design Bureau as base.
There was at first idea for two missiles one more conventional and other with anti-ballistic missile defence feutures in mind.
They choose the second option.
From the Albatross R&D,... Topol-M got shielding against laser, EMP and close nuclear blasts and the after effects(both high altitude and low altitude) in both boost and terminal phase. (Albatross was in this regard apparently far superior but cost for this was astronomical)
More energetic fuels for faster boost phase and thus also shorter post-boost phase. Which was meant for all ballistic missile programs. ( Russian's and French are currently leaders in this field with )
A maneuverable missile bus during post-boost phase/mid-course (While all modern ballistic missiles busses in post-boost phase are able to execute midcourse corrections via ISN and or satellite data. Topol-M's simply have enough propellant to also do evasive maneuvers while heading for appointed location in space for the release of their warheads. )
Not sure if this a was a feature of Albatross or MITT's own thinking.
For terminal phase Topol-M's has according to Russians sources and "Lightning Bolts: first maneuvering reentry vehicles" by William Yengst has maneuvering warhead with according to W. Yengst a ramjet sustainer. It's sorta of a powered boost glide warhead/BGRV as it apparently at first uses BGRV like trajectory with ramjet assisted maneuvering for final phase in terminal phase.
it's R&D likely partially derived from Albatross (SLA-1) which also had a powered variant in development at one stage or another(SLA-2) before the program was shut down.
Topol-M also has a maneuverable MIRV's. Topol-M while could carry multiple warheads did so with compromise. Hence the Yars came to be. ( Yars's maneuverable MIRV's might have more advance guidences.
Topol-M and original Topol where also test beds for more advance warheads at least one hypersonic boost glide warhead a powered supersonic warhead and a hypersonic one if i recall correctly. Though non it seems as far as limited info go's adopted onto Topol-M.
Topol-M and rest of the family also has pretty fucking advance decoy's that apparently pretty close at mimicking the real warhead and have same decent rate. But this was likely for the maneuverable MIRV config. On this they have been working on since the days of R-36.
The features from "Universal" R&D/ and ICBM program from Yuzhnoye Design Bureau in Topol-M are that like "Universal" it was made to be both silo and mobile installations compatible. And the missile specifically designed for both mill and civ role. And also as a signal relay/comm for dead hand. Replacement for 15A11 command missile.
So, yeah. Russians have pretty fucking advance ICBM's.

Oh, yeah. There is also Rubezh complex and Avangard program Which is a mystery. Shit Russian media and worse yet western media sipping into Rus media, making a dogs breakfast about both doesn't help the matters. And crackdown by the government on insiders within MiC didn't help either at that time in terms of info.
But the gist of it. Avangard program and R&D was a replacement missile for Yars (Yars-M )complex and a missile for Rubezh. It also served testbed for various R&D topics. One of them being busless ICBM design derived from NPO Mash's "Vanguard" program.

Yeah, the US has no equivalent to something like the Sarmat. If you’ve ever watched a Sarmat launch, you’ll see how fast it is, which makes it less vulnerable than other ICBMs. (Launch is the most vulnerable phase.)
As far as I understand, the Sarmat is also the only missile that can use an Antarctic trajectory. All US missile defenses and radars are aimed north. Anticipating polar attacks. By using an Antarctic trajectory, there is little early warning nor defense against the Sarmat.

This is the right decision though. There is no reason for this information to be public knowledge. The Nuclear Program was also one of the main priorities for Russian Military spending once Putin got the Russian State to be functional again. This program in a lot of ways isn't flashy as we will probably never see these weapons used in actual war but it is very important. You can describe a lot of Putin's actions and priorities as boring but extremely important.

Falco is very much right though. Fall of Soviet Union did even worse damage to engine aviation industry then that fat fuck Nikita khrushchev did.
Hell the entire aviation industry's took a nose dive from a cliff into jagged rocks infested with sharks.
Anyway, bar AL-31 engines which proved not only good base for future improvements but overal at the time and even now have excellent thrust and comparable fuel consumption for engines in it's class. On top of reputation for a quick spool up, ability to tolerate severe distortion of the air flow and still extremely damn good high and low altitude performance which made the flanker partially into a maneuvering beast it was.
However P&W F119 is a more advance and superior engine (even the core based AL-31 Saturn AL-41F1s and AL-41F1 don't match ) and even the latest GE F110's which might not rival the latest Al-31 entirely ...is still non the less comparable or superior even at matters that count more(fuel consumption and thrust)
Izdeliye 30 however looks promising. And even more ambitious then izdeliye 20. Though it's to be seen if Izdeliye 30 will have all the party tricks beside variable cycle due to cost.
Other area being heavy and super heavy class helicopter engines. Nothing else that I come to think off that's exportable competes really.
However there is some progress as Russia is developing family of different thrust class of jet engines for civilian jetliners and cargo planes. And they are also finely making turboshafts for small and medium class helicopters. which was much needed.

So based on various reports, my impression that the 3rd Brigade (Azov) at Avdiivka got their heads handed to them and fell back to the chemical plant leaving all the Ukrainian troops in the city cut off with the only way out walking miles across fields. They talked big and took alot of pictures when they arrived, but their fighting ability seems to have been really low.
This was supposed to be a fresh, rested elite assault brigade. The best Ukraine has. Yet they don't seem to have accomplished anything and didn't seem to try very hard either. With a whole new brigade, they should have been able to preserve a corridor into the city for evacuation.

Regarding jet engines, American engines also have issues. (For example, the F35 may need a complete engine replacement program.)
Soviet jet engines always had other priorities than merely fuel consumption and naturally fell behind. It’ll be interesting to see over the coming years with Chinese cooperation. China also have their own jet and jet engine programs, and a pooling of resources and know how would be advantageous to both.
