Guilty Gear Strive

Too little too late. Strive is basically more dead on arrival than DOA 6 (pun intended). I think the design is fine, but this should be like a secondary outfit and they should have kept her original outfit from Xrd and left her tits huge like in Xrd. Her OG design has a lot of flair to it and apparently is the second reference to Shiina Ringo in the series (which makes sense as it is pretty badass, hot looking and has a very inspired flair to it). But none of that would have fixed the lack of polish, the casualization and the tranification of the game. It seems like every fighting game company is fucking up like crazy. I think only KOF is doing alright right now.

I'm not totally sure anyone cared about this game to begin with.
People did initially, but turning Testament into a "they/them" , Bridget into a tranny and censoring all references to China in addition to getting rid of Destructions (and other changes to make the game more casual) made Arc lose their old audience (me included) and the casuals only stayed for a few months and then naturally left. Basically, Daisuke made a bunch of short-sighted retarded decisions and now the game is dead.

Does anyone care anymore about this game? Lol.
I'd be lying if I said I didn't; but it's more because it's part of the series that really grabbed me and made me want to get good, instead of just pushing buttons and being something I play because. I fucking wanted to get good at it, and spent a lot of time grinding shit out in XX. But anymore, with how "community" and "socially conscious" and other shit is, it's not like it used to be, though part of that could also just be aging up. But the main lore is concluded, Sol killed "That Man," and most/all of the big violent threats (Testament, Dr. Baldhead/Faust, etc) have either died or chilled the fuck out, so there's little to no more fighting... so of course the biggest talking point has to be Theytament and Bridget being a tranny. And when it comes to tournaments and shit, people are putting the tranny flag as their nation; so there really is no escape from the fucking menace. I care about it, but I'm in the shack behind the party hall, sharpening my axe.

How true is it that the game is dead? Anyone got any hard numbers? Because it's always fun reading that shit here.
Depends on what metric you use for dead. Fighting games are more niche than other games, and the anime fighting community has a bit of a problem of staying loyal to something; though I'm sure that falls into the hyper-consoomerist mindset the newer anime generations are a part of. If you were to use generic "small player base" numbers, I'd say it's still alive, not thriving, but healthy enough.

Here's Steam Charts for Strive
Strive Count.PNG
You see the spike in August of 2023, that's the launch of Season Pass 3 and the return of Johnny; the last 30 days obviously coincides with Elphelt. August of 2022 was the launch of Season Pass 2 and Bridget and January of 2022 was Baiken. Keep in mind this is only Steam, as there's a good amount of people on Playstation; and if you want to count tournaments, EVO 2023 had a little shy of 2,500 entrants.

I wouldn't say it's numerically dead; but tourists and trannies are cracking eggs to make the gayest fucking scramble with what's left.

Strive is shit. Still no Slayer, the only thing it's good for is the music at the point, which is still pretty okay. I didn't like last seasons character themes to much but Johnny and Elph so far are great.

Yearly reminder that Accent Core +R will likely be going on sale frequently the next few weeks, and is still fun despite everything. Can probably get it as low as 3 bucks at points.
Can get it right now for 2.50 on CDKeys.

Also it would not surprise me if Strive is one of those games that people buy, play once a month if that, and then stop. A revolving door, if you will. It attracted a loooot of a fucking tourists what with the simplicity, the design direction, and the tranny pandering.

As an aside, did you guy's know that "YWNBAW" Ky player from a year or so ago switched to Sin, goes by Sneed Chungus and is a degenerate pedophile?

Total Strive Death.

Is there something more insecure than Strivefags? I swear look up any post on social media criticizing the game and you will meet with the force of thousands and thousands of people going :
  • Post hours
  • Tourist
  • muh culture warrior
  • You don't get it man, GG was always lgtbvea+++
  • Fake fan
  • Bet you play horrible
And so on, for a game that used to be about guys dressing in the edgiest way possible modern fans of it sure seem to be quite the most sensitive bitches on the fighting game sphere, I don't think even street fighter players act like this.

Its because Strive fans are all (actual) tourists, most of which only got into the game because of the Bridget retcon. All the actual Guilty Gear fans went back to one one of the older games.

I had my fun with it abusing May, but though sometimes I get a bit of a pang to go in again (a while after Bridget I went in again and to my surprise I still was good enough to stay in floor 10, which I think speaks more about the quality of the player base than mine) but then the baggage of faggotry just puts me off... I really like fighting games but don't want to play solo and almost never manage to find anywhere where people are close to "my level", I'm too good to pay vs casuals but too dogshit/undedicated to play with people that actually lab.

I'm gonna get shit for this but give SF6 a try. If you're decent at fundamentals and get some combos in your muscle memory (important) then you'll sit around platinum/diamond. The matchmaking is good enough that you'll have to try to win almost every match. You'll get the occasional master ranked player trying to grind a separate character, or a scrub that picks "Advanced" when the game asks their skill(Plat would be the minimum they can place), but otherwise I enjoy it for what it is: A decent fighter with enough depth to keep me entertained the one hour out of the week I get to play. Otherwise you gotta grind out older and harder titles that you might not have the patience or time to figure out. if you don't like SF though idk what to tell you. Not super pozzed assuming you stick to ranked and avoid the BH/story, despite what the doomposters say in the SF6 thread. Maybe the new Granblue, though I haven't tried it. Or just play +R and be content with losing 9/10 matches.

As for not playing "Solo" let me know when you figure it out. All the people I play vidya with either don't wanna learn, don't wanna fight me, or don't have the time to learn, but otherwise want to. Feels bad. Forever to good to play casuals, forever to shit to play sweaties... :sigh:

I played the ever living fuck of Zero 3 in it's time and what I played of the SF6 open beta I liked, I was mostly just waiting out for the obligatory "champion super chungus" edition we all know will eventually come out, though I don't discard biting when it has a hefty discount. I also played a bit of Granblu and Under Night betas, but neither really won me over and I also have KI downloaded, though I'm still going through the fucking eternal trials to unlock Jago.

The fucking best part is most of those people haven't fucking touched the game themselves.
Strive is fun at first, but the game keeps wanting you to ask for more, I played it with a friend irl who has played a lot of the old games and tried to jump back into it when Ephlet came out and he was like "man the game is so fucking slow, can we play the older games?" and ngl kinda have to agree.
I can play pretty fucking well (pretty much kicked everyone's ass I have gone against with yoyo man IRL when I did play with it) but it feels like guilty gear without the gas after going back to accent core. like fucking forget the lore shit, they took a fucking hacket saw to bridget's moveset and made him with alot less options than he had before. Bedman was good I guess but even then he lost his screen control shit. strive really likes to push the "unga, rushdown bullshit" and nutters any moveset that isn't sol.
the only real thing I'll say for simplification I love is the dash button shit (mostly bc double directional inputs on my stick are fucking hell to pull off), I still pop it in bc again, the core movement guilty gear has is fun and I still enjoy alot of bridget's core options ngl but alot of the games issues feel like arc system works being deliberately obtuse and all they are really backing off of is the name and legacy guilty gear had to this point.
Guess what I'm saying is, whatever game that comes after strive I will be very fascinated if there is drop off afterwards bc the only reason I think Strive took off was it being an early adopter of rollback, the boost from dragon ball, and it looking pretty visually.
also can I just say, the lobby system is still fucking ass and the fact I can not invite people from my friends list is gay and retarded.

Going back to the "wanting more" thing I said before, its bc strive doesn't have much to chew on mechanically, like fine lower the skill floor for entry but if you lower the skill ceiling itself as well it becomes less beginner friendly those casual fags wont have anything to:

Played the game on and off since its release. Installed it yesterday, since I haven't touched Season 3 at all. More or less the same. Baffling design decisions, devs either don't know what to do with the balance or wiggle things around, so it seems they are working on the game. No idea what they have done to Pot. The game has good things going for it but has been probably worse mishandled than SF6 at this point.
