Do you think they are this dumb and naive in real life? Do you think Petra and kin therapeutically discuss the times they were raped as children in restaurants or in line at the cinema bathroom and are shattered that others don't respect their privacy? How many timeshares do you think these people own? Do they give the good Christian woman whose car broke down in Baltimore the $50 she needs for the bus fare to her mother's funeral because she promises to pay them back? Do they reply to the Chinese business man who sends them a message about transferring money for a handsome fee?

Rhetorical - sort of - but I don't know. This is all so weird. It's like we've discovered a primitive tribe that will freak out if we take their pictures and steal their souls. No one can be this self-righteous, gullible and willing to believe any nonsense that comes their way as long as the narrative is interesting? Do they have a tacit agreement that if you don't question my bizarre narrative I won't question yours?

To be fair there is too much caffeine in my bloodstream and a lack of real spice in my life.
I always think it's hilarious when cows decide to provide running commentary on us as we provide running commentary on the cows. It's so meta and ends up in these wild circular discussions. Terryberry was known for doing it.

I get the impression that this is one of those communities where nearly everyone has :autism:. I've seen places like that before (TV Tropes, Wrong Planet, the like), and there are two factors they all have in common: a high percentage of users with absolutely no filter, and the geek social fallacy "Ostracizers Are Evil" taken as a golden rule.

Let me use an incident that happened on TV Tropes as an example: a few years ago, a fifteen-year-old girl who posted on their forums publicly called out multiple adult male users for sexually harassing her. The sexual comments happened publicly, albeit in places that moderators tended not to check. Should've been an open-and-shut case, right?

Sure it was. The girl was banned for being mean to those men and hurting their feelings.

I see much of the same train of thought going on in the thread defending Murray. What matters isn't the fact that he's been lying to them for years, or that he's trying to justify sexually abusive inclinations, it's that we're being mean and making people feel bad.
