Greyhounds, like dogs from fighting rings, just aren't meant for rehoming as normal dogs. They're not trained to be house dogs. A few years ago, a new law in Texas was passed to allow police dogs to retire with their trainers (instead of being auctioned off as surplus property), which is really a better idea, a K-9 unit does not sound like something you want around the house, and would be better off staying with its partner.

Both of my siblings adopted animals from shelters (the dog was kept in a kennel most of the day and still has some training issues like peeing when it gets too excited) but my brother's cat was a housecat that got lost and replaced, then taken to the shelter when it was eventually found, yet still is very needy and meows a lot.

I'm not sure about cats, but it seems the last time I went to the shelter, almost every dog there was a pitbull or pit mix.

I think it was on 4chan (might've been here) where anon went to the animal shelter to get a dog and explicitly made it clear that he didn't want a pitbull or pit mix, and they got pissed at him as if he said the "N word".

They will also just straight up lie to your face about the breed of the dog.

“What, of COURSE this isn’t a shovel headed shitbull! It’s a Labrador Retriever! How very dare you!”

Because everyone knows they're violent, but the sort of person who works at a shelter tends to be the "animals can literally do nothing wrong without a human causing it" sort.

More like it's 4chan, there's a 50/50 chance he actually did drop the hard r gamer word.

Plus at least at my local shelter they have a section just for small dogs, if you don't want a bully mix there are probably fewer there (though that's probably where a bulk of the actually aggressive dogs are).

from my experience, there's not a lot of variation of cats? They'll try to label the cats as Siamese, or maybe Persian, but the main issue (in my area) is that cats just don't get adopted.

A nice stray started hanging around my house last year, and my husband and I took her in with the intent of getting her spayed, and finding a forever home for her. She's a weirdo (likes biting, gets scared when we turned our heater on), but she's very affectionate and calm. She's still young, I'd guess <1 year.

No shelter in our area would take her.
No shelter outside of our area would take her.
There was no room, and no chance of an adult cat being adopted.

One of the Animal Planet animal cop shows had a scene of this. Complaints of a woman keeping a wildcat, the officers show up to a house with just a ton of cats coming in and out. An ocelot walks in, eats some cat food, and lies down in the sun with the other cats. The old lady just thought it was a big feral cat. She wasn't keeping it confined, it showed up and stayed around for the food, but could leave whenever it wanted to.
I'm thinking of the social media couple from Russia, I believe, who have a full black panther in their tiny apartment.

And Pumba the carcal whose owner milks it for content by purposely pissing it off.

That last one upsets me the most.

All this shelter talk reminds me of: not too long ago, I became a member of this Facebook group where people give away free cats and dogs. I have no pets of my own but I am planning to get a cat so I'm looking at different places, including shelters and this group.

The Facebook group is uh quite dramatic. And honestly there's a lot of people in there who probably shouldn't have or should not get pets.

People post pictures of their pets with injuries and infections and ask for advice instead of calling the vet. Occasionally they get pressed and they bitch about not being able to pay for potential vet bills.

Then why did you get a cat?

Or they are moving to a new place where pets aren't allowed so they wanna get rid of their pets.

....Why didn't you plan for this?

I've seen people getting rid of their old pets because they don't feel like they want to bother anymore. Then started fighting with others when asked about insurance which is required by law for dogs here.

Recently the whole group blew a gasket because someone wanted to get rid of their cats because they kept getting litters of kittens, then lashed out when people rightfully called them out for not spaying and neutering their cats, claiming it would be the new owners problem.

A lot of people there are also super picky and superficial, outright delulu. No orange cats because memes say they are bad. They want a specific expensive breed or a specific color. They want Maine coons and munchkins and folds and Persians and pugs and all that but only puppies and kittens that have to be no older than 12 weeks for cats and 8 weeks for dogs (which are the lowest ages where they can be taken from their mother legally)

Some outright ignore this and want them even younger.

Sorry about turning this into a rant post but I just get kinda upset at the sheer disregard for animal welfare.

I am irrationally annoyed at the "orange cats have one brain cell" meme. Cats in general do funny things; you just notice because the Internet told you and now you are being mean to your orange friend.

I have had or have known cats of every color, and the only fur color things that hold true IME are the genetically-linked ones: white cats going deaf, orange cats mostly boys, calicos mostly girls.

If your wardrobe is dark the universe will provide you with a light-colored cat, and vice versa, but that has nothing to do with personality.

The internet did horrible things to animals.

Good things too of course. Spreading of information about certain breeds, health risks, temperament, and whatever else.

On the other hand, SMASHED AND SLAMMED, people wanting certain breeds because they get popular via social media.

Or, as you mentioned, being shitty to their pets for clout and hits on TikTok. Sure, you have harmless fun like letting a dog out to play in the water. But then you get the aforementioned Pumba.

Caracals, AFAIK, communicate a little differently than domestic cats including hissing which isn't always a warning. However you can see in the body language that Pumba is stressed/on edge; ears back, low on the ground, growling outright.

But mouth breathers gobble that shit up regardless.

The one brain cell meme is generally used among owners of orange cats. It's like owners of Jack Russel terriers calling their dogs Jack Russel terrorists.
Unfortunately, other people use it as fact, hence rejecting orange cats when they are pretty much just as intelligent as every other housecat.

That should happen to all backyard breeders.

Who wants to bet he just kept the dogs locked in the backyard and ignored them except to feed them and grab puppies to sell
Looked at other articles to see what the kennels looked like. They don't have proper roofs. There's what appears to be a white tarp or sheet over them. Not sure why Post Millennial cropped that detail out.

The kennels don't look like they had adequate bowls for food or water, either. Isn't Compton in an area that gets pretty hot?

Yeah I'd maul my owner to death too if I was a dog just locked in a backyard with no proper shelter, food, or water.

I guess the dogs weren't in tiny cages on top of each other Amish puppy mill style at least, but this doesn't look much better.

I hate how many people do shit like this, at least this dude got his just desserts.

I can’t stand these people. I randomly found one who has those genetic nightmares being super aggressive to some rando for no reason over reddit when the poster pointed out she mutilated the poor dogs ears:

Oh no not the bulky tiktok community. So of course I had to find her tiktok which she had in other posts.

She looks exactly like you think she does.

Of course like all other people who breed these poor dogs she makes awful posters of them:
