Russian Special Military Operation in the Ukraine - Mark IV: The Partitioning of Discussion

It makes absolutely perfect sense.

The ukrainian retreat has put a chunk of the Ukrainian Army in chaos as a they try and remake chains of command, account for troops and units, and stabilize on new defensive positions.

However, for Russia, this is a gigantic opportunity to push as hard as they can as fast as possible to try and keep the Ukrainians off balance for as long as possible to grab more and better positions.

Ukraine just suffered a major morale loss and losses on men and material.

Russia is doing exactly what anyone else would do in their situation, use it to their maximum advantage.
The reason why i will celebrate Russia winning this war would be the same reason why I would celebrate my crack-addicted brother who stole my mother's jewelry by threatrening her with a knife finally being caught by the police and tossed into rehabilitation.

Two days ago in the Kyiv Independent

"Ukraine's Third Assault Brigade, whose soldiers were recently deployed to Avdiivka, is facing around 15,000 Russian troops at its sector of the front, the unit said on social media on Feb. 16.

During the engagements, the brigade has effectively "wiped out" Russia's 74th and 114th separate motorized rifle brigades. Russia's estimated losses are 4,200 troops killed or wounded, according to the unit's report."

So the Azov bros showed up at Adiivka and wiped out two entire Russian brigades amounting to almost 1/3rd of the entire Russian troops in the region of Avdiivka.
Why not? They are the best of the best. They show up, wipe out a third of the enemies troops in a couple of days.
Did it mention if Azov took any causalities? I bet according to the article the Azov ubermench didn't take a single causality.

lol. I mean, ok, this is propaganda for domestic purposes to boost morale, but come on ... this is north korean levels of propaganda. Dear leader was 3 feet tall when he was born, could read and speak at age one month and became a chess grand master at age 2.

Fucking hell. Do we even know if anyone managed to retreat or were they all wiped out?

Anybody ever seen a comb-over like this? I expect them to keep saying the quiet parts out loud at this point but that hair though! I'm not even mad. Respect! Where do they find these people and why do they put them on TV as experts?

Around January 24, Wikipedia finally admitted that the Battle of Bakhmut is over. This was accomplished in part by changing the scope of the article to cover only fighting within the city limits of Bakhmut.

However, the editors have retreated to a fallback position of insisting that the battle is not a Russian Victory and that the overall article cannot refer to it as such.

Wikipedia's official new position is that Ukraine never intended to hold the city of Bakhmut. That their brilliant strategy all along was to lose Bakhmut. Therefore its impossible to argue that Russia won because Ukraine's objective in the battle all along was to lose. Therefore its completely rational to hold that neither side lost the battle and if there was a victory that both sides "won" it at the same time.

There was also an attempt to claim that in this instance Wikipedia should wait for historians in future years to decide if there was a Russian Victory.

There isn't a consensus to call the battle a Russian victory. Both sides achieved their stated strategic objectives. Russia said it wanted to take Bakhmut, and Ukraine said it wanted to extract a heavy price for Bakhmut and to pin down Russian forces in the area. If this was a Russian victory at all, it was a Pyrrhic one.

Also of note, one of the key sources they were using to call the battle of Bakhmut ongoing was a Forbes article by David Axe from July.
Like him or not, the humble Bonebroth salesman put it best, there really is a "war on for your mind".
And the only way to win is not to play.

I don't even have a dog in the race. Its just weird seeing narratives and myth building in real time. Also fuck wikipedia.

*Edit* It's like some dumbass bragging about having a high power car but shitty tires that spin out as soon as they touch the gas. Just spinning in place doing zero.

Actually, might be more comparable to bad mustang drivers. Gets going for a second, loses control, and then crashes into some other poor saps car.

You can print money, but you cant print shells.

David Axe in Forbes has now provided his account of how the Azov Bros of the 3rd Assault Brigade fought this week.

He quoted a tweet from a supposed ex-US soldier (John Roberts) who claims to be a trainer of the Azov Brigade since 2022 and an eyewitness to what happened this week:

I am originally from Orange County, California. I served in the U.S. military for 8 years, stationed in Colorado, South Korea, Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait. I also worked as a contractor at the JFK Special Warfare Center in North Carolina, helping prepare our future special operators. As an American Soldier I have always been interested in our national security and global interests. I am currently an assault instructor serving in the 3rd Assault Brigade, an elite unit of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. This week we came to the rescue of Ukrainian Forces who had been enduring the Russian attack on the town of Avdiivka. Our fighters quickly destroyed two Russian brigades and kept a corridor open for Ukrainians in Avdiivka to retreat from the town.

Our soldiers are true professionals, not disturbed by the massive Russian firepower being flung at them and fighting hard to gain and maintain the corridor. One thing I teach my students is to conduct “shaping-operations”.

Essentially to take steps by using alternative means such as artillery, airpower (drones in our case) or electronic warfare to prepare the battlefield for the success of our infantry to capture their final positions. My students are very excited to employ these techniques, they train on them and use them in battle frequently. Ukrainian Soldiers are highly motivated to fight efficiently and reduce casualties as they are making their transition from Soviet to NATO doctrinal warfare. Our Brigade is leading this transition and using shaping operations at every level possible, even down to the squad. We make plans, we do reconnaissance, we task support assets and we review our actions after battle to learn what we did well and what we need to change.

We admit our successes and failures and we improve and grow ourselves as professionals. Because of this, in battle, we are confident and unrelenting. On the ground in Avdiivka, we felt the results of current American politics with full force. We are accustomed to fighting with less artillery than the Russians.

We have already developed clever ways of using precision fire to counter Russian artillery. Our artillery soldiers use their American-provided weapons efficiently and effectively to batter the second-largest military in the world so that our assaulters have cover while they pierce like needles to rapidly cut the Russian Force’s critical arteries. This week, our ammunition has effectively stopped. Our precision scalpel cannot cut. We are used to fighting understrength. We are intelligently adapted and trained to push ourselves to the highest level of combat performance. But we cannot deliver miracles. We have already delivered many miracles in this war, and I am sure we will continue to do so, but hoping for miracles is not a reliable way to win a war. I am extremely disappointed in a super-minority decision to block military aid to Ukraine in our American Congress. More than that, I need to go pray and say goodbye to more of my students and friends. These soldiers, these men and women, they are incredible people. It takes weeks to teach American Soldiers what Ukrainians are able to learn in hours. Their standards and self-expectations are high. They usually accomplish complex team-based tasks correctly on their first attempt. Every time they fail in training, they get angry with themselves and repeat the task until it is right. I have never had to ask them to stay later or work harder. They hardly sleep, they don’t complain and most of them have families. Besides not getting to spend time with their families, these soldiers know that this fight is for their future and their safety. We are fighting hard. Against impossible odds. All you need to do is help from a distance, and that is a good thing for Americans.

You do not want to come here. The Ukrainians are dying and it is not out of some ignorance or accident. They are dedicated to their liberation from Soviet values and Russian oppression. They are spilling oceans of blood to join the free democracies of the world. Ukrainian people, who enjoy an average income of something like $5000 a year, are the largest public donors to the war. Ukrainian soldiers purchase most of their professional equipment with their own income. This economy was already struggling before the invasion and there is still not enough resources to fight and equip everyone.

Ukrainians are doing everything and giving everything they have for this, and they will not stop. Thanks to American aid, a new free nation is being born in the world. Ukraine is not giving up. Americans, we cannot give up either. There is so much more that could be said. About how Ukrainians avoid targeting Russian civilians with long-range strikes. How Russians deliberately target Ukrainian civilians and civil infrastructure. How often Russian soldiers wear Ukrainian uniforms and attempt to infiltrate or use other underhanded tactics despite having military and economic advantages. I am still an American Soldier. I am still a warrior and a member of a team. I can tell you that here in Avdiivkda, we felt the result of Congress’ actions to defund Ukraine. Our Ukrainian partners are not complaining. They are humble and doing everything they can to survive. I am here and I can see what is happening. I am complaining. What happened in Congress over this winter was wrong. Many Ukrainian Soldiers wear the American Flag into battle out of respect and admiration. Ukrainians who look up to America and our values. Many of whom are now dead. The damage and destruction the Russians are causing is something ISIS couldn’t imagine in their wildest dreams. We must support Ukraine. America and Ukraine’s goals and futures have suddenly collided towards the same ends. We need only to give Ukrainians the tools they are asking for. Give Ukrainians the weapons they need, and they will succeed.

So according to Roberts, this highly trained Azov Brigade full of tough fighters who are better than any American troops at learning how to fight arrived in the area and immediately defeated two ENTIRE Russian Brigades. But then (wouldn't you know it) they had no more ammunition

Damn. So in spite of these Azov Superman killing wave after wave of Russian orcs, they ran out of ammunition after slaughtering two brigades and couldn't fight anymore. So everything that happened after that was completely reasonable and also the fault of those DAMN REPUBLICANS who refuse to give the Azov Bros bullets with which to mow down the orc waves in Ukraine.

Russia is a petro-state abundant in natural resources. Its lifestyle may not be like the EUs, but damn is it resilient. Whatever happened to the sanctions?
Sanctions only work against nations that don't have strategic resources, with a nation like Russia, sanctions just incentivize sales to people the US can't afford to fuck with. Hell, the US never stopped buying oil from Russia.

In short, the sanctions just weakened our global power, and made us look like hypocritical assholes for funding both sides of the war.

As we all know, scouting, battlefield preparation and planning your assaults? Invented by NATO in 1949. Before that, armies just sort of bumbled around until they met somewhere, at which point, unless they were American or Ukrainian ubermenschen, they flailed at each other like retards until one side lost.

US zogbots really can be the dumbest gorilla niggers on Earth when they want to. This is the corniest fucking diatribe I've read possibly ever, filled with flag waving like Ukrainian soldiers using the US flag in battle, and killing 50 Russians for every casualty they take while still losing somehow, of course trained by their superiors, an honest to God US soldier! GOD BLESS THE USA!!! And curse those evil ReTHUGliKKKans who are singlehandedly letting Putler win this war by not giving Ukraine every piece of modern gear they have.

Oh by the way

Many Ukrainian Soldiers wear the American Flag into battle out of respect and admiration
Legal no-no. You probably shouldn't complain about war crimes and admit to breaking the same article in the next paragraph.

It looks vaguely like he's trying to do a slicked widows peak like a charismatic movie villain, but he just looks like a cartoon comic relief villian.

I believe that timing would more directly correspond to a logistics interruption by the General and his followers being fired.

So Hohols are several times smarter than Americans. Really? Then you don't really need American help then, use that big hohol brain!

Thanks to American aid, a new free nation is being born in the world.
What, a nation that isn't even planning to hold the next presidential election?

We need only to give Ukrainians the tools they are asking for.

All the massive theft of money earmarked to buy mortar shells? All the weapons showing up on the black market?

I'd offer them thoughts and prayers, but the "new free nation" banned the Orthodox Church.

This "ex-soldier" is some sort of redditor wet dream.

It's really no big deal, we can just replace Finns with Somalis and send them endless foreign aid, ensuring that the Finland GDP is maintained.
If Somalis are the "new Finns" then brother we need a version rollback.

One thing that I suspect that has happened in this war is that Putin has gained a large amount of control of the economy of Russia. He has done some of this before but he has jailed oligarchs and destroyed some of them and I suspect he is weakening some of them while this war is going on. War is a great opportunity to weaken the position of the Oligarchs because no one can say no to you because of the war.
I will be very interested in seeing how the Russian economy and society grows after they win this war. Winning a war, as someone else earlier mentioned, they will likely have a small golden age. But if Russia can tidy itself up and transform this kick into a sustainable momentum of growth and prestige, it will be exciting, something people alive today just haven't ever seen before. Hell, I don't think an Eastern Europe that genuinely eclipses the West has been seen since the Romans in Byzantium. An Eurasian Renaissance isn't something I expect per se but I hope it happens.

He spent the 2010’s bringing them to heel, and most importantly: Brought strategically important companies under government ownership.

And sanctions have benefitted Russia in regards to the remaining oligarchs.

They can’t have their money sitting in NY or London anymore. So they invest inside Russia.

Pretty impressive considering they apparently didn’t even engage inside the cauldron.

Ukraine is definitely winning the battle of copium, I’ll give them that!

(Btw… How would they KNOW about these losses? They retreated from the battlefield so have no way of counting dead Russians. Unlike the Russian army who right now has a pretty good idea of who was there and how badly the different units have been bloodied.

Perhaps Russian soldiers were kind enough to yell out YOU GOT ME, every time one of them got shot?!)

Fielding a tiny force of perhaps seven battalions, a navy which is largely imaginary and an air force of 30 fighters requires a defense budget of $15 billion dollars a year.
To be fair the dutch are more trade oriented people. Until their precious trade and jewery is endangered they won't life a finger in terms of military. Every time in history when they fielded large army relative to their population was either fight for independence or mercantile protection related. threaten their precious trade and the jew in them will field the largest army they can muster.

Remember these were the only ones trading with japanese after their emperos went bunker mentality and kicked out all the foreigners .

From what I’ve read, command broke down and whoever got out, got out “on their own initiative” without equipment on foot.

Saw a video of Ukrops in groups walking across a field while getting shelled by artillery.

In another video Russian soldiers are driving down a road and you see Ukrainian corpses every couple of meters.
