The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have announced they will step back as "senior" royals and work to become financially independent.

In a statement, Prince Harry and Meghan also said they plan to split their time between the UK and North America.

The BBC understands no other royal - including the Queen or Prince William - was consulted before the statement and Buckingham Palace is "disappointed".

Senior royals are understood to be "hurt" by the announcement.

In their unexpected statement on Wednesday, also posted on their Instagram page, the couple said they made the decision "after many months of reflection and internal discussions".

"We intend to step back as 'senior' members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen."

They said they plan to balance their time between the UK and North America while "continuing to honour our duty to the Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages".

"This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity."

A Buckingham Palace spokeswoman said discussions with the duke and duchess on their decision to step back were "at an early stage", adding: "We understand their desire to take a different approach, but these are complicated issues that will take time to work through."

The couple's announcement on Wednesday comes two months after the Duke of York withdrew from public life after a BBC interview about his ties to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, who killed himself in August.

Lady C bought the domains OfficialSussex.com and DukeAndDuchessOfSussex.co.uk.

OfficialSussex.com:

I was going to suggest she also should've bought RoyalSussex.com (Meghan owns SussexRoyal.com), but it appears to already be registered?
I've never owned a domain name so I don't know what some of this means.

Here's info about Domains By Proxy, LLC:
1708151278203.png

Also the meaning of clientRenewProhibited is interesting (from the ICANN site):
1708150905086.png

"An uncommon status". "Legal disputes".
Maybe it's nothing, again I don't have any knowledge of domain name ownership.

Sussex.com is also registered with Domains By Proxy, LLC and features the clientRenewProhibited status:
1708151542494.png

It's interesting to note that RoyalSussex.com was updated before Sussex.com. (2023-11-15 vs 2024-02-04.) Maybe Meghan bought RoyalSussex.com to prevent anyone else getting it? Or maybe it was bought by someone else?

I wonder if Meghan will react. Lady C seems to have great knowledge about royal titles, but she isn't techsmart, I don't know if she could defend these domains. (Probably OfficialSussex since Sussex is a county, but DukeAndDuchessOfSussex.co.uk could be a problem.)

ETA: Also I wonder if Sussex County could sue for ownership of the Sussex.com domain, seeing as the name better represents them and the only reason Meghan makes use of it is because she's ostensibly their royal representative. If Charles sued it wouldn't look good, but if the county did it would be embarrassing for Meghan.

Also some funny things I discovered while researching (I don't know if these were already posted but I didn't see them in search pls nobulli).

In 2020 Meghan began a trademark dispute against a Filipino guy named Victor Martin Soriano over the name "Archewell" (A) because he had registered the name to sell deoderant. He apparently won because Meghan's side missed a filing deadline.
(Cobblestone Lane LLC is Meghan.)
1708153132927.png

Bonus: He despises Meghan and loved the Queen.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are embroiled in a legal dispute with a small Filipino business owner over his Archewell deodorant name, which he says he’s willing to “fight to the death” to keep.
...
Victor Soriano told The Sun exclusively: “If the Queen asks me to withdraw, I will do it promptly, no questions asked.
...
“The foundation is OK, but it’s how she [Meghan] treats other people.

“I think I should win because I’m a small guy from a poor small country about to be swallowed by a greedy monster. I must succeed in this fight.”
...
“If [Meghan] wanted the name, she should have said so earlier,” he also told the WTR in an interview.

“Is she sour graping? Change of mind or heart perhaps? Then she should do her own filing, not go after me since I’m 100 per cent legal and within my rights.”

He said Meghan, 39, “must be taught a lesson” and has shared proof of the dispute in a series of furious tweets, saying the couple “won’t talk to me”.

“You bet I can slug it out with them when it comes to legality, which I will,” he said.

He later filed for another Archewell related trademark (A) and planned to sell products under the name in the US so Meghan can't. He also trolled them by stating his hair products "can cure balding" and threatened to use a photo of Harry's bald head in his product marketing if they attacked the Royal Family. :story:
A small business owner in Manila, Philippines, who last year became embroiled in a trademark dispute with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, has told WTR he plans to launch his Archewell Cosmetics brand in the US – and claims the royal couple cannot sell similar goods in countries including Canada and the US.
...
As WTR exclusively reported earlier this year, an entity representing the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Cobblestone Lane LLC, pursued legal action against Victor Martin Soriano, a Filipino small business owner, over a trademark application for the term ARCHEWELL HARVATERA. The notice of opposition was filed in November 2020 and related to an application filed by Soriano in July 2020 for cosmetics and fragrances. The opposition was based on Harry and Meghan’s brand Archewell, which they announced in April 2020 (and subsequently filed trademarks for the term in jurisdictions including the European Union, the United States and the United Kingdom). Cobblestone Lane LLC’s extension to file an opposition expired on 28 December 2020, and the application therefore reached registration a few months later.

Soriano, who owns a small business called Cyclone Trading, has subsequently filed more Archewell-related trademark applications in the Philippines. A month after the Sussexes lodged the notice of opposition, he filed for an additional mark at the IP Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) for the term ARCHEWELL COSMETICS.
...
It appears the royal couple did not want a legal fight, and the ACHEWELL COSMETICS trademark was approved without any opposition. It was registered at the IPOPHL in October 2021. Responding to the registration, Soriano said: “I dedicate this to the British public, the purveyors of what is right and wrong for humankind. The eternal Empire steeped in tradition, [and] for those who respect HRM The Queen and the Royal Family. [The trademark] is valid in the Philippines and in all ‘first-use trademark countries’ like the USA, Canada and Denmark, so Harry and Meghan cannot sell as ‘Archewell Cosmetics’ in America.”

As well as obtaining trademark protection, Soriano has also launched Archewell-branded cosmetics products on the Lazada online marketplace. Examples include ‘Archewell aloe vera fragrance oil’ and ‘Archewell fragrance oil hair care’. Interestingly, the hair care product features a claim that it can cure balding – with a ‘before and after’ image on Lazada showing hair growth on an unidentified person’s scalp. On Twitter, Soriano has promoted the Archewell hair growth product by using a photo claiming Prince Harry has ‘thinning hair’. Asked about that, he tells WTR it was a defensive move not to use the image on the online marketplace. “I wanted to use Harry's picture on Lazada, but he might sue,” he confirmed. “But take note, if he and Meghan go out of bounds with their book and attack Charles and show disrespect to the Royal Family, it's open season and I will use the picture.”

Outside of selling Archewell brand items in the Philippines, Soriano reveals he is “tying up laboratories” to launch abroad. “Export-wise, I want to concentrate in the US, where Meghan will see me face-to-face,” he says. “Archewell is already in use in America where my sister in Los Angeles is selling to Filipino communities. There is no date yet for an e-commerce launch in America, but physically we are already ‘first to use in America’, meaning they cannot use Archewell Cosmetics in America as it already has physical use there.”

For that reason, he is monitoring the royal couple and predicts they will enter the sector at some point. “Cosmetics is an old reliable,” he claims. “In my view, their other businesses are not doing well so what is the fastest way to make $1 billion like Rhianna? Cosmetics, and there is already a rumour that Meghan is planning a skincare line.”

It is clear from Soriano’s Twitter feed and prior comments to WTR that he is (as he himself described) “anti-Meghan, but not anti-Queen”. Therefore, it appears his launch of an Archewell brand in the Philippines – and soon internationally – is, at least in part, an attempt to rile up the Sussexes. Crucially, any perceived push-back from Cobblestone Lane LLC could be reported by a hostile media as ‘going after a small business owner’. WTR reached out to an Archewell spokesperson for their perspective.

I tried searching the Lazada website to see if he made good on his threat, but it's a shite Alibaba type site and it showed me two thousand random products instead (true story). I tried searching for "Archewell Cosmetics" to see if he had a website but saw nothing. Maybe he was quietly murdered in the night by pinoynigger stalker Sugars.

I also discovered that on April 8th 2020 a cybersquatter bought their future Archewell domain and prophetically made it redirect to Kanye West's music video of "Gold Digger".

Edited to fix some details.

The Sussex domain is a .com, which is commercial most of the times and many brands have geographic names. It'd be a real issue if they bought Sussex . Co. UK., which btw is already owned by (I think) a photographer.

They bought Sussex.com through a broker, from a guy who’d held onto it for 30 years and turned down many other offers. He said he didn’t know who he was selling it to, only that they’d agreed to pay his asking price.

Considering Meghan’s dress for her engagement photos cost over $70k and her most casual winter outerwear is a $3,000 Hermès puffer jacket, I suspect he could have gotten more for the domain.

I don't frequent this thread so sorry if the article is late.

Prince William will block Harry’s royal return; he and Meghan ‘cannot be trusted’: report

Whatever Harry has discussed with King Charles about a reconciliation and resumption of royal duties, it is ‘absolutely and categorically clear’ that William would not allow his brother to return to ‘the Firm’

Prince William has told friends there is “no chance” Harry will be allowed to return to royal duties, following a report that Harry has offered to carry out some some public engagements while their father, King Charles III, undergoes treatment for cancer.
Indeed, William remains “so angered” by Harry’s attacks on the monarchy that he will block any of his brother’s attempts to return to “the Firm,” according to a report by The Mirror’s royal editor Russell Myers. William, the next in line to be king, believes that Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, “cannot be trusted.”

The animosity between the once-close brothers grew after Harry and Meghan acrimoniously stepped away from royal duties in 2020, moved to California and gave a series of damaging interviews about the monarchy. Their interviews portrayed the family as cold, dysfunctional and possibly racist.
Harry’s 2023 memoir, “Spare,” also made unflattering allegations about certain family members, including Queen Camilla and Kate Middleton, but especially William, portraying the Prince of Wales as hot-tempered and unfairly judgmental of Meghan. Following the publication of “Spare,” Harry was adamant in saying that there could be no hope of a reconciliation with his relatives unless he received an apology.
Now, the renegade, Montecito-based royal has apparently changed his tune and seems eager for a reconciliation. In a report published Friday in the Times of London, his friends have floated the idea of his willingness to return to royal duties, if only temporarily. It may be that Harry is trying to publicly force the issue of reconciliation. On Friday, he also gave an interview to Good Morning America, in which he spoke of his love for his family and suggested that his father’s cancer diagnosis could spur a healing of the rift between him and his estranged relatives.

Harry also told Good Morning American that he felt “grateful” that he was able to jump on a plane and fly all the way from California to London to see Charles, right after learning that the 75-year-old monarch had been diagnosed with cancer. As Harry’s GMA interview was making news, the duke’s friends were telling the Times that he had otherwise been in contact with the king and enjoyed several “warm exchanges.”
The Times also reported that Charles apparently wants to see more of his son, with a royal source saying that there is a growing sense that a rapprochement would “benefit the institution.”
“On all practical levels it makes perfect sense for the family to come together to support the king while he’s sick,” the royal insider said. “Much has been said on both sides in recent years, but that has never diminished the fundamental bond of blood, and there are now pragmatic aspects to consider, with the king and Kate’s wellbeing paramount in this.”
The source was referring to the royal family also losing the services of William’s wife, Kate Middleton, until at least after Easter. The Princess of Wales underwent surgery in January for an unspecified abdominal condition, spent nearly two weeks in the hospital and has been recovering at home.
On Monday, Feb. 5, Buckingham Palace announced the Charles had been diagnosed for an unspecified form of cancer, which was discovered while he was undergoing treatment for an enlarged prostate. While Charles reportedly is optimistic about his chances of recovery because the cancer was caught early, he has been told he needs to take a break from public engagements while he undergoes treatment.
The news of the diagnosis prompted Harry to jump on a plane and make a “mad dash” to London to see his father, reports said. It turned out that Harry only saw his father for about 30 minutes before flying back to California the next day. Some royal observers wondered if Harry’s quick London trip was a publicity stunt, to show him as a loving, devoted son, given that he needed to be back in the United States on Feb. 8 to hand out an award at the pre-Super Bowl NFL Honors. He and Meghan also were due Whistler, Canada this past week to promote the 2025 Invictus Games. That’s where Harry spoke to Good Morning America.
The royal insider told The Times that details of Harry’s meeting with his father, and subsequent conversations, will remain private, but the feeling is that it “could work” for Harry to return to royal duties. The Times reported that Meghan could be involved as well. saying that “a written plan” would be drawn up for the couple to embark on duties on behalf of the monarch. However, they would not receive any public funds.
But Harry’s older brother and stated “arch-nemesis” is reportedly having different conversations with the king, according to The Mirror. As the next in line to the throne, William has been having “one-to-one meetings” with Charles at the family’s Sandringham estate in Norfolk, where the monarch recuperates after his weekly cancer treatments in London. William was due to attend the BAFTA Awards in London Sunday evening solo, as Kate continues her recovery at home.
A source close to William told The Mirror that there is “no chance” that he would allow his brother back into the royal fold.
“Whatever has been discussed between William and the king is private, but it is absolutely and categorically clear that he (William) would not allow Harry to return,” the source said. “He thought it was a bad idea at the time and he’s even more clear now. If anyone is going to take on more duties it will be William and that isn’t even on the agenda for now. His main focus is on his father’s health, his family and what is best for the monarchy. There is a zero-percent chance Harry is coming back in any capacity.”
William’s mistrust of Harry and Meghan is likely to have been aggravated in recent months by the publication of “Endgame,” a critical book about the monarchy by controversial author Omid Scobie, who has been described as a “mouthpiece” for the Sussexes. The book reignited the row over alleged racism within the monarchy, with its Dutch-language edition leaking the names of two family members — Charles and Kate — who allegedly discussed the skin color of Harry and Meghan’s son Archie before he was born.
Some within Buckingham Palace also are not amenable to the idea of Harry’s return to royal duties, according to The Times. They said the late Queen Elizabeth II made it clear that he and Meghan couldn’t be “half in, half out” when it came to working for the monarchy. The queen was concerned that a hybrid arrangement would allow the couple to capitalize on their royal work while seeking lucrative commercial deals on the side.
But a source close to Harry told The Mirror that he thinks it is time to reconsider the hybrid model. “With the king’s illness there is perhaps more of a reason for those options to be considered,” the source said.
Whether or not Harry is allowed to return to royal duties, the Times said that there appears to be hope within Buckingham Palace and Montecito that “a peacemaking operation” could be successful in the coming months.

I keep seeing Harry met with Charles for 30-45 minutes, but the actual meeting with Charles was really only for 10 minutes.
More like a "Nice to see you, but the wife and I really have to run, toodles" type of visit. Camilla didn't want to be anywhere near Harry, and hot Captain Johnny was in the room the entire time, so Charles was never alone with HaznoBalls.

Anyone else hear that?

Well at least this guy got a nice payday out of it. I wonder how much he got.

Edit to avoid doublepost.

I haven't paid close attention to news about that meeting. 40 minutes, 10 minutes, same difference for a guy who flew all the way across the Atlantic really.

Where are you hearing it, SMM? Any news articles stating it was only 10m?

Also notice how trashy the names of her kids look compared to William's:

Charles
William
Harry
George
Charlotte
Louis

ARCHIE AND LILIBET.
!!!
I thought those were nicknames, I never realized those were the actual names. Like, lmao nigger, if you were going to be Queen and your son (eventually) King, why name him "Archie"? "King Archie" ahhaha what. (Harry himself is "Henry", of course.)

To confirm, yes, those are the kids' actual names. I'm not surprised anyone has trouble believing it given how Californication dumb they are.

If there was any truth to some of the parts of The Crown where various people met with the Queen, that's typical. Unless they were hanging out at Balmoral for the holidays, most of her kids had to have their secretaries make appointments with her secretaries for brief 5 minute meetings. The only one who had unfettered access was Phillip. You can't just drop in on Dad and hang out for a few hours when he's King.

No. Source?

What I did read are conflicting stories about whether Camilla was there, but the single source for the story that she wasn’t is Petronella Wyatt, a writer who had multiple abortions during her affair with Boris Johnson and who only has a career because her father was rich and connected.

But even she only said Harry “didn’t want” Camilla to be in the room. That has been repeated as “Harry refused to be in the same room with Camilla,” which I cannot imagine his father tolerating. But they are two very different things. I’m sure Harry didn’t want Camilla around, but I don’t think even someone as deluded as him would expect the king to go along with kicking her out.

surely harry couldn't have expected anything else
all these 'royal duties' are basically PR events, aimed at the british public and british nobility, and neither of those target audiences have a positive opinion of harry anymore, so having him perform those duties would be counterproductive and damaging to the monarchy. it'd be almost like if charles was sick and they decided to sent that one prince who was implicated in epsteins shenanigans in his place, very bad idea.

I remember Harry and Camila being on good terms eventually.

See, this is why I am a traditionalist. A British prince considering US citizenship should be enough to ask for his head and the head of his whore wife.
Maybe after being away from Bongland for so long he finally realized how retarded the UK is. Can’t say I blame him, I’d rather shoot guns and eat burgers than drink tea and play figurehead all day for ungrateful fucks.
