You have to be retardedly naive if you think he had no association with the present level of degeneracy enveloping the furry community (earlier posts already detail that he was a gross pervert way way back)

Since he's the guy who started it all, it would've been nice if he felt he had some responsibility to speak out against what his community has become but it seems he didn't so fuck him

I can’t exactly get that mad at this guy.

Because I don’t believe what he introduced was such a unique revolutionary idea that nobody else would’ve come up with the idea of making animals look a little bit more human, and wanting to go fuck them.

Like, I don’t believe if this guy never came up with Furrys that we would live in a world devoid of Furrys. I think he was a little bit ahead of the time, but the Internet still would’ve became so mainstream that this idea would’ve formed anyway. The only thing I think may have changed is maybe the name furry? But honestly, we’d probably just have a bunch of sub communities which are just as degenerate, perhaps even more.

Worth mentioning although I'm old enough to dimly recall the burned furs. I dimly recall thinking they had good points but then went off the other deepend with some really odd conservative christian whacko shit too, but I might be crossing up related parties not the core movement.

I could read the now wiki about the mess but I recall some of...the web ring they had? I think it was a web ring anyways.

Anyhow I seem to recall some of them were the kind of "straight edge" tee totalling wierdos who think one drink sends you to alcoholic hell and probably had enough skeletons in their closet to rival their enemies.

It wasn't my scene, just popcorn watching from afar. ... and here I am on the farms now. Huh.

One thing that should be taken note of in this and all of the older criticisms is the emphasis on "don't ask don't tell" in regards to zoophilia and other forms of extreme degeneracy. The issue isn't that people fuck their pets, the issue is people fuck their pets openly and make the furry community look bad.
Or in other words, even the people morally disgusted by this behavior tacitly accepted it as part and parcel of the community, they tolerated it so long as they didn't have to hear about it.

People have been wanting to fuck that fox lady from Robin Hood since the seventies, man. If it wasn't that dude, it would have for sure been someone else.

I would also have to be equally naïve to believe a pack of piranha jumping at the first opportunity to call a dead geezer a chomo with little to no evidence that he was. I expect a better standard of evidence than "I've got a hunch" or "look around you." The most I've seen which testifies to that is he supported trannies on his Twitter profile, but that could also play into his reputation of being a permissive hippy liberal.

I've adjusted the mod edit to include the new information. It's in a more digestible form as well, so give it a second look if you want to be more informed on the matter.

Not that anyone cares, but this has certainly given me a new perspective to consider. All I can say is my personal feelings have shifted from careful curiosity to overt apathy now that Merlino's history is revealed to be less "hapless founder whose creation spirals out of control" and more "cookie cutter furry who just so happened to be in an executive position."
