Furry Fandom and Drama General

Many taliban fighters have taken child brides, so Bacha Bazi/Manlove Thursdays aside, I still think that Afghanistan shows that men being cruel to gay men doesn't protect children from sexual abuse.
Calling yourself a furry by default makes you not one of the good ones.
After reading more about Merlino, I agree.
I always wondered why animal characters like Kung-Fu Panda or Duck Tales or sports mascots aren't creepy, but furries are. That Confurence 8 news report was full of some serious nightmare fuel. Is it the fact that the furries use homemade suits, instead of corporate branded designs? No, people in homemade cosplay aren't inherently creepy, janky fan-made stuff can be sort of charming, and some suits are really well made, but still creepy. I think it's just the sex aspect. Merlino drew his weasel with giant cans, visible nipples, and bedroom eyes.
If you just like what you like, but don't use it as an identity and don't bring sex into it, then I think you're fine.

I hope he burns in hell for ruining the funny animal subgenre that was mostly aimed at kids.
I’m sorry to inform you of this, but Fritz the Cat predates this guy’s conventions by several years. I think those were the among first animated breasts shown widely in theaters.

Ralph Bakshi was a weird guy who made weird, bad-yet-interesting movies, but I don't put Fritz in the furry category. Yes, there are sex scenes in the movie, but I don't think Bakshi wanted to fuck cartoon animals. I can't put my finger on why, but I think if furries made that movie, it would've been different. There's like a satiric distance to it or something. Like Bakshi is playing with these characters but he doesn't want to embody or become these characters.

The thing I remember about the sex in Fritz (it has been like a decade now though so I might be misremembering), but the sex really weren't really arousing. They were weird and cartoonish without any sensuality and almost a nonchalant dismissiveness to the sexual encounters. There was nothing sexy about the cheap fucks that Fritz had, they were just kind of sad and pathetic.

the worst this is that despite the best work of internet trolls worldwide, furries have somehow gotten a little more mainstream acceptance, not less...
It's because the sexual aspect is hidden. Many blessed normies think that transwomen are just sad, feminine gay men who just want to pee, not sissy-hypno-addicted straight men who want to expose themselves to teen girls. Many blessed normies also think furries are just goofy nerds who like cosplay and cartoons, not sex predators who want to fuck dogs and children while dressed up like Gadget Hackwrench.
I was like them, once. They'll find out eventually.

Yeah, Fritz the Cat felt like Family Guy when Brian the dog would go on dates. The characters were chunky and kinda ugly, unlike Mark Merlino trying to draw the hottest weasel he could think of.
If I met someone and they told me they liked Family Guy, I wouldn't think they were weird. If they said they liked Chakats, well, then I'd think they were weird.

This is what a furry does, retroactively claim all things animal related is furry. I don't think Ralph Bakshi was trying to start a degenerate fandom off of Fritz the Cat. It's one thing to use cartoon animals as a framework or cipher, it's another thing to make specifically cartoon-y animal porn for pure sexual gratification.

Holy shit, they laid it on more than a little thick there.
I can’t wait to see the yiff-monument to this Saint of the furry fandom at the next convention lol

In regards to early furry psychology and Mark Merlino in particular here are some excerpts from the ConFurence 0 conbook.

Merlino himself made the piece called "Furries Are People Too."

I honestly can’t think of a single thing that words on a computer screen has done to hurt anyone.
You did hear of the monkey fuckers who lost a guy because forum users saw a couple words on a screen, which then prompted them to make more words on a screen, and then get a guy in prison… right? I really hope we know the same “words on a screen”.

I believe the reason why fritz the cat caught on so fast was because cartoon animals at that time were usually associated with kiddy stuff. So to see cartoon animals doing crazy R rated things was cool. I’m guessing in the same vein as Sausage Party, except there’s nobody trying to fuck groceries as a result.
