WhatifAltHist / Rudyard Lynch - History youtuber, galaxy brained, no credentials and no sex

This is just a "I don't like his rightoid politics" thread, where's the funny?
There is a massive issue with this in this thread. I think it would be better to focus on something other than this take or that take he has in a video. I think this thread would also benefit from people who were/are viewers of his like me.
Forgot this thread was here and posted this in pophistory, but enjoy

This is where a lot of the funniest things about him lie. He sees himself as more left-wing in comparison to his audience. He wants to deradicalize his audience and is actually trying to make them more left-wing. That is why I don't take the complaining about right-wing politics in this thread very well.
Someone made a tier list of YouTube channels most often criticised by r/BadHistory. WhatIfAltHist is the only one in the lowest tier.

(Tier list uses some objective metrics with almost academic standards, meaning there should be constant citations edited into the video itself. This is why nobody is in A-tier.)
Quite frankly I don't think a lot of academic historians criticizing you says very much. Also using some kind of weird objective standard like this highlights a lot of the problems with academic historians.
As for whether he's a lolcow, I don't think so. Not quite yet. I think that this thread should be moved to multimedia. I do think that eventually he will be a lolcow. He's going to continue his descent into Jordan Peterson territory and will either pick up a complementary benzo addiction, or run afoul of someone or some community who will take it upon themselves to really fuck his shit up.
I agree he is close to becoming quite funny and there have been some quite funny interactions he has had on twitter with people.
If all those Breadtubers are lolcows (and they are) then Rudyard's "me, an intellectual" postings make him a lolcow too. Some of these are gold. He's like a right-wing Moviebob.
Despite all his failings he deserves a bit more respect than Moviebob. He does have some true things to say although most of that is him parroting what other people think. However sorting through think-tanks and news reports and finding the ones that have something useful to say is a skill. One thing I haven't seen in this thread is he correctly predicted a war between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Of course like most people that make predictions he ignores the things he got wrong and highlights the ones he got right.
Another thing: As a self-styled 'historian', how does Rudyard even rationalise his attempting to predict the future? This activity is usually the province of rabble such as "futurists", religious/cult charlatans and occultists, not historians - their business is with the past, not future.
This is one reason I want more viewers of his in this thread. Very often when he tries to predict the future he mentions that getting this right is basically impossible. The thing about making a surface level criticism of someone is they might have already addressed that criticism.

History is useful because it can tell you a lot about how the world works and how humans work. All kinds of modern events have some similarity to events in the past. Does the war in Ukraine with its trench combat remind you a bit of WW1 era trench warfare? You just connected the past to the present and the future.

My favorite historian, and once greatly respected though now less respected, Will Durant also made a go at attempting to predict some future trends. There are some interesting comments of his that seem somewhat accurate as well.

That's not exactly Nostradamus-level predicting, those two have been at it non-stop over Nagorno Karabakh ever since the USSR fell. That's like predicting that Israel and Palestine might kick off, it's one of the most obvious predictions you could make.

I was a viewer of his, but as time went on his ego got bigger and bigger and I noticed some weird incel-level views on gender that started to put me off, that and his lack of citations.

If you just want right-wing scaremongering and doomposting about the fall of the west, just watch Moon. Just as little evidence for his claims, but at least he knows how to edit a fucking video.

Yeah, what the thread really needs is retards coming in to write essays gunt guarding Rudyard. Nice wall of text idiot. Nobody will read it.

You can pretend like this thread is left wing rage or something, but overwhelmingly it's people like me calling a fat gay moron fat and gay. Get with the program.

Did he even predict it? I found this Xeet acknowledging he did not.

Maybe he predicted the 2023 war, the one which decisively ended the conflict in Azerbaijan's favor. But honestly that was the most likely scenario after the events of 2020. The conflict was indeed near the top of any list of frozen conflicts in the 21st century, so predicting a blow-up is hardly insightful. Anyway, I like that this Xeet shows some humility.

I don't think this thread is too tainted by politisperging. Some is inevitable given the subject is a notable politisperg. I can see how that will make it less accessible to people inclined to agree with Rudyard, but that's just how it is.

I don't know if he'll become a full-on cow, but I like following him regardless.

Anyway, he is back on X because his friends need him or something.

How can anyone argue that this man is not a cow, when he takes credit for an unfunny meme as if it's the most important work of Western literature since Shakespeare? Well, not the entire meme, just the text for the meme. He's just the ideas guy, after all, he doesn't have the technical skill time to put 3 words on a picture, he's busy saving the West.

And my message to my fellow rightoids is that if we can't make fun of our own spergs, the West isn't really worth saving anyway.

The funny thing is I hate the way Whatifalthist acts and think he deserves to have a thread. But I read through all 6 pages and I didn't find very much here all that funny. The OP isn't very good IMO. There were a couple things I enjoyed however.

I think noticing that he is fat is funny. I find it funny that he tries to be super serious but doesn't even make himself decently presentable in public. But I didn't see too much of that in most of the thread.

Maybe it will get better as time goes on as he acts more and more stupid. The political sperging presents itself in that he is more left-wing than his audience and tries to push his audience in that direction, but people complain about his right-wing takes here.

I wouldn't say anything at all if it was just a little bit but it was a large portion of the 6 pages I read and the OP.

They kind of deserve to be made fun of for embracing incel/redpill/manosphere narratives. Certain segments of the right have been really aggressive with that lately and it's concerning.

That meme is actually pretty good, regardless of the politics. Even if you live under a rock and don't know the Lord of the Rings, the top image is a guy holding up a beam of light and the bottom reaction image is a giant, wretched spider from Hell recoiling in pain. You can't really get your point across or be more succinct than that.

If you're making the argument "you can't criticise my e-daddy unless you've watched all his content", I respectfully decline. A fat guy pompously spouting nonsense is hilarious in short bursts, but I couldn't stomach it as a constant diet.

This objection also comes close to the dishonest argument "You cannot criticise the organisation unless you are a member thereof", which is a rhetorical trick used by charlatans (the Church of Scientology and transgender slacktivists come to mind) to shut down criticism.

With respect to his disclaimer, I can only say that it either wasn't present or I did not see it in the videos I watched.

You called my criticism "surface level". This may be true in this case. I also took part in a discussion containing deeper criticism of his "successful" predictions such as "2021 - China turns Maoist".

By the way, if you're calling on other fanboys for a personal army, you're in the wrong place. Go sell the idea in his discord server or on Twitter.

Not and never disputed.
All kinds of modern events have some similarity to events in the past. Does the war in Ukraine with its trench combat remind you a bit of WW1 era trench warfare? You just connected the past to the present and the future.
Similar does not equate to identical. Trench warfare was also used in the siege of Medina (+/-620AD) Second Anglo-Boer war, occasionally in WW2 on both fronts, inter alia.

One could also say that the urban warfare in Mariupol and to some degree Artemyovsk in that very same "war"/"Special Military Operation" was very similar to that in Stalingrad(now Volgograd) in the Great Patriotic War(Soviet contribution to WW2), Beirut in the Lebanese Civil War, Sarajevo in the Yugoslav civil wars starting in 1992, Tripoli during the 2011 NATO-Libyan war euphemistically termed the "Arab Spring", again inter alia.

I think coincidences like these have more to do with improvements in military tactics, which are rapidly adopted by all future belligerents and may be refined slightly depending on new attempts at countering them and local circumstances, but continue to see use until rendered useless by a superior tactic, which then becomes standard practice.

With respect to the political tenor of this thread, I don't see it as particularly "left-wing" except for perhaps one or two comments. Then again, in the USA "Left" and "Right" are used somewhat differently than in most other places.

Now for sanity's sake dump any more argumentation into spergatory and let's get back to laughing at Tubby Ruddy!

His predictions are sketchy and his mental state is debatable, but the quality of his textwalls is going up:

He discovered color-coded text and table templates. Also this book sounds interesting:

I can't wait for Cripling's thesis on how the glowies discovered the spirit world in the eighties.

Starts at 12:55 in the Civil War video.

Latest video is a Raycon-sponsored screed about how degenerates belong on a cross. It starts off with an unusually smug Rudy talking about how he knows about something that is truly shocking, that he wishes he didn't know about it and that you probably don't want to either so don't watch the video.

Edit: fucking lol. It's the Mouse Utopia Experiment. Hardly obscure, Rudyard. I fucking hate that study. I mean it is interesting, but so many retards on the internet think it says something revelatory about human societies. It doesn't. They're mice in a somewhat flawed experiment.

He's talking about some mice went all hikkimorri others went around attacking any mice that had children. The later group apparently also was very sexually active but not for the purposes of procreation. How the fuck does that make any sense? If the scientist actually made any of these observations then he has some explaining to do.

Rudy is clearly on his anti-urban living arc. Fair enough. No one wants to live in a hive, but people have been living in dense cities for thousands of years. Cities quite literally equal civilization. And he's claiming that our increasing urbanization is going to lead to societal collapse. Remember, the only populations that have ever generated population growth are rural religious people. That's enough WhatifAlthist for today.

It's kino in that Alex Jones kind of way. He found a way to extrapolate from the Mouse Utopia experiment to talk about how "degeneracy" will destroy society. Good catch seeing that it's sponsored by Raycon LOL.

I'm telling you his new format and level of unhinged schizoposting is gold, I could listen to him talk about how the US is going to have a civil war and how the left wing is like a wife that tries to get her husband to beat her so that she can get him arrested 24/7.

He's only 22 though.. Where does he go from here? I really hope he tells us about the reptilians before he troons out. I'm glad that he seems to be past that phase a year ago where he was continually sniffing his own farts with other """intellectuals"""".

If anything, the left wing is super weak and frail considering how they abandoned ship on the Texas border.
