Feb 22 (Reuters) - Large swathes of the U.S. were hit by a cellular outage early on Thursday, with thousands of users reporting disruptions with the services offered by telecom firms including AT&T (T.N).

More than 32,000 outage incidents were reported with AT&T's service around 4:30 a.m. ET, according to data from outage tracking website Downdetector.com. Impacted cities included San Francisco, Houston and Chicago, the website showed.

Users of Verizon (VZ.N), T-Mobile (TMUS.O), and US cellular also reported issues with the telecom firms' services, according to Downdetector.

The companies did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment on the reason behind the outages.

A post on social media platform X from the San Francisco Fire Department said the outage was impacting people's ability to reach emergency services by dialing 911.

"We are aware of an issue impacting AT&T wireless customers from making and receiving any phone calls (including to 911)," the fire department said on the platform formerly known as Twitter, adding that it was "actively engaged and monitoring this."

The crisis of competency is going to snowball right quick in the next 5 years boys!

Did another former AT&T employee go haywire and make some custom mods to his RV?
The line I read somewhere is that AT&T installed some threat detection system into their network and a day or two ago. Now this happened. No idea how true that is. Nor how it effected so many other carriers unless they all use the same infrastructure.

Found it.

Another sign of a looming competency crisis?

Yet another reason Current Year sucks if so.
The thing that isn’t being talked about is how much these big companies are outsourcing as well. So not only do we have a bunch of incompetent minorities in positions they shouldn’t be, we also have a bunch incompetent 3rd world people with no critical thinking skills included in things that ultimately are vital to things working correctly. It seems like every year we have things happen that were completely unheard of after World War 2.
